INTRODUCTION
Internship Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to
train and orient students about the work and their future career. It
is a type of skill development where a worker learns how to do
the work through hands-on experience. Internship Training is one
method by which students are exposed with different work
situation designed to give students an opportunity to experience
and a chance to apply the theories and computation that they
have learned from the school. It also helps the students to
acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual
work setting.
Internship Training is very important not only to teach
students regarding their chosen career but also to show students
the reality about working. The students will be exposed to the
actual work related to the course that they are taking. It also
allows those with no experience to work and to learn at the same
time. Internship Training helps the trainee to learn more about his
chosen field and practice what he has learned from the school. It
helps in the building up of the trainee’s competence. Of course,
when a students is competent enough, she will be able to do
things successfully and. This training develops one’s
professionalism in dealing with people. After the training, the
trainee will be able to handle situations properly and she will be
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | vi
able to know how to socialize well with his colleagues. He will also
be able to work well with everyone and she will have a good
teamwork. Internship Training also enhances the critical thinking
abilities and discipline of the student conducting his training in a
company. His ability to make sound decisions and evaluate
pertinent factors will be improved.
Having a proper Internship Training helps in the preparation
of future professionals for their future jobs. What the students
learned in their Internship Training, even the little things, can be
applied when they are already working. Students will be trained
not only academically but socially as well. The way they work
and communicate with others will not be a problem for them
anymore. It also gives the trainee the chance to immerse himself
in his chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary
to the industry he is interested in. Working with experienced staff,
one will be able to observe how the job is done properly.
Internship Training requires effort and seriousness. A trainee
should take the Internship Training seriously as it can be a
powerful tool for a person in preparing for the next chapter of life
as a professional. It can possibly be a source of recommendation
when they take that big lift from being students to career
professionals someday.

COMPANY AND FOUNDER
ONE-OF-A-KIND SUCCESS STORY
Mary Kay Ash was an original. As an entrepreneur and a
philanthropist, she started her business from a tiny store in Dallas,
Texas, with five products and one big dream. That dream was to
inspire women to transform their lives, and in doing so, help other
women achieve success.
Today, with 3.5 million Independent Beauty Consultants, Mary Kay
offers more than 200 premium products in more than 35 countries
around the world. For more than 50 years, Mary Kay has helped
women discover products that they love: innovative skin care,
irresistible makeup and unforgettable fragrances. At the same
time, the Mary Kay business opportunity has helped women from
Kansas to Kazakhstan, discover extra income, empowered
choices and true beauty from the inside out.
Mary Kay also touches hearts through a powerful legacy of giving
back to the global community – all thanks to one amazing
woman who turned her passion for beautiful lives into a one-of-a-
kind success story.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 16
MARY KAY ASH
CHARMING. SPIRITED. A ONE-OF-A-KIND SUCCESS STORY.
Over the years, there have been many successful business
leaders but none as unique as Mary Kay Ash.
A dream company
When Mary Kay Ash “retired” from a successful career in direct
sales in early 1963, she decided to write a book to help women
survive in the male-dominated business world. She made two lists.
One contained things the companies for which she had worked
had done right, the other included the things she felt they could
have done better. When she reviewed the lists, Mary Kay realized
that she had inadvertently created a marketing plan for a dream
company – one which would provide women with open ended
potential to achieve personal and financial success.
With her life savings of $5,000 and the help of her 20-year-old son
Richard Rogers, Mary Kay launched her dream company on
Friday, Sept. 13, 1963.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 17
Guiding philosophies
Mary Kay adopted the Golden Rule as her guiding philosophy,
determining that the best course of action in virtually any
situation could be easily discerned by doing unto others as you
would have them do unto you. She also steadfastly believed that
life’s priorities should be kept in their proper order, which to her
meant putting faith first, family second and career third.
She stressed the importance of recognizing the accomplishments
of others. And she constantly encouraged both the corporate
staff and the independent sales force to act as if each person
they met was wearing a sign around his or her neck that read
“Make me feel important”.
Today, Mary Kay remains true to the principles of Mary Kay Ash.
Mary Kay Ash’s honors
Countless business leaders, authors, politicians and members of
academia have recognized the pure brilliance and
determination of Mary Kay Ash. She received numerous
prestigious awards during her lifetime and many more following
her death on Nov. 22, 2001.

KELSEA BALLERINI LENDS HER VOICE TO MARY KAY’S ‘GLOBAL DAY
OF BEAUTY’
DALLAS – May 12, 2016 – With a goal of 1 million “Makeovers for
Good” around the world, cosmetics giant Mary Kay joins its
independent sales force in providing pampering sessions for
women in need through Mary Kay’s Global Day of Beauty. From

At the U.S. event, survivors from New York City’s Safe Horizon,
which provides services to more than 250,000 women, children
and families affected by abuse each year, will be treated to a
day of pampering and beauty in New York led by Mary Kay
Makeup Artist Virginia Linzee. The reigning Academy of Country
Music® (ACM) New Female Vocalist of the Year Kelsea Ballerini,
who launched to stardom with two consecutive GOLD-certified,
#1 smashes – “Love Me Like You Mean It” and follow-up “Dibs” –
from her critically acclaimed debut album THE FIRST TIME (Black
River Entertainment), will lend her voice to the event to create
awareness of domestic violence and dating abuse. Globally
recognized fashion designer, Tracy Reese, will also be in
attendance to help celebrate the inner and outer beauty of
local domestic violence survivors.
“The fact that one in three young people today are impacted by
dating violence is a scary statistic. It’s deeply meaningful to join
forces with Mary Kay for this event and help draw awareness to
this issue,” said Ballerini. “By partnering with Mary Kay, I truly hope
to empower women and remind them of their beauty and self-
worth through this special event.”
The Mary Kay Global Day of Beauty is a component of the
company’s Don’t Look Away campaign which works to educate
the public on recognizing the signs of an abusive relationship,

how to take action and to raise awareness of support services.
Deserving women worldwide including teachers, nurses, military

Kay and its independent sales force spanning the globe.
“As a corporate leader in helping to prevent and end violence
against women, Mary Kay hopes our Global Day of Beauty will
not only pamper women in need around the world but also raise
awareness of an epidemic that impacts families in every country
and culture,” said Crayton Webb, Vice President of Corporate
Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility for Mary
Kay Inc. “By joining forces with Kelsea at our U.S. event, our
collective dating violence prevention efforts will touch thousands
of teens and young adults. Alongside Kelsea and our
independent sales force worldwide, we are honored to kick off
this global initiative in honor of women around the world who
have overcome unspeakable abuse.”
Over the past 15 years, Mary Kay Inc. and The Mary Kay
Foundation ℠ have given more than $50 million to domestic
violence prevention and awareness programs to women’s
shelters across the United States in an effort to end the cycle of
abuse.

DIRECT SELLING: A GROWING, EXCITING INDUSTRY
What Is Direct Selling?
Very simply, direct selling is a way to sell products or services
directly to customers, away from a retail location. A direct sales
business allows you to connect with customers one-on-one, in
groups, through online sales, catalog sales or by phone. People in
the direct selling industry are often known as independent
consultants, distributors or representatives.
A direct selling opportunity is a viable option for people of
all ages, genders and income levels. It is an especially good
opportunity for women who want more flexibility and control over
their lives, and who:
 Have an entrepreneurial spirit.
 Like working with people.
 Desire a less structured working environment.
 Are looking to supplement their income without making a
large investment.
 Want an opportunity to earn an unlimited income.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 44
World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA)
The World Federation of Direct Selling Associations pursues
the highest level of ethical conduct in the global marketplace,
fosters advocacy by partnering with government, consumer and
academic leaders, and strengthens management of national
and regional Direct Selling Associations. In an effort to promote
the highest ethical standards possible around the world, the
WFDSA created World Codes of Conduct for Direct Selling. Every
national DSA pledges to require each member to comply.
The DSA Internet Council’s Guidelines for Internet Use was
created as a complement to the DSA Code. The Guidelines are
voluntary and encourage proper, responsible and professional
use of all electronic communication for commercial purposes. At
Mary Kay Inc., we are committed to conducting business with the
utmost integrity. We encourage Mary Kay Inc. employees,
independent sales force members and customers to become
familiar with and be proud of Mary Kay Inc.’s affiliation with the
DSA, its Code and voluntary Guidelines for Internet Use.

Mary Kay and the DSAP
The Direct Selling Association of the Philippines (DSAP) is a
highly regarded national trade association of firms that
manufacture and distribute goods and services sold directly to
consumers through an independent field sales force. Mary Kay
Philippines Inc. has been a member of the DSAP since 2002.
The Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics is the cornerstone of the DSAP's
commitment to ethical business practices and consumer services.
It ensures that statements made by member companies are
honest and forthright. Every member company pledges to abide
by the Code's standards and procedures as a condition of
admission and continuing membership. The Code assures the
independent sales force and consumers that they are dealing
with a company serious about providing quality and service at
the highest levels.

DIRECT SELLING ASSOCIATION: FACTS AND FIGURES
Worldwide, annual sales from the direct selling industry
currently exceed $100 billion. A direct selling business is:
 A business opportunity based on the sales of a product or
service direct to a consumer.
 An exciting opportunity to own your own business with a
small start up investment.
 An excellent opportunity for women. About 75 percent of
those working in direct sales are women.
 A growing industry: More than $100 billion worth of goods
and services are sold annually through direct sales.
 A way to achieve balance in your life. You can set your own
hours, become your own boss and earn according to your
own ambition and efforts.

INTERNSHIP TRAINING: FOUND
March 15, 2016 – 11:00PM
I searched the word internship on Facebook. I found a
post of someone from Parañaque, he was Mr. James
Mercado. I was interested when I read his post saying “Now
accepting OJT / Intern for Summer 2016. Must be from supply
chain / marketing / tourism courses. Pls get in touch with me
thanks.”
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 50
I sent a message to him through Facebook Messenger
since his location is in Parañaque, I think the company’s
location is also in Parañaque. I said that time that this is good,
near to my location. By 11:28 on that evening, I made a
personal message with him saying “Hi Good evening. May I
know your company name? I’m finding a suitable internship
for this summer. Thanks ”

I received a message from Mr. James Mercado, he
said “Our company is mary kay, please send your CV for
review to james.mercado@mkcorp.com.. what course are
you into?”
I replied on his message, “Thank you Mr. Mercado. I'm
currently taking BS Business Administration Major in
Marketing Management course.”
As the end part of the conversation, he said “Okay pls
email me your cv ”
What I did is, I send my resume to his email address on
that day.

She said “Hello! Your resume is referred to our company by
one of our employee, Mr. James Mercado. I tried calling
you yesterday but unable to reach you. We now have an

Today was my interview. Since my interview was set at
1pm, I arrived at 9am on the location to see how far it was,
then I went back to Alphaland Southgate Mall to each my
lunch.
By 12:00nn at arrived at the location area.

By 12:30pm, I went inside the Mary Kay. I asked the
lady on the front desk, if Mr. James Mercado was there
because I’ll be having my interview. She told that Mr.
Mercado was on his break, but he will get back by 1pm.
I waited for him; I always looked at the clock that time.
I kept on waiting for him. The time was 1:00PM and the lady
was not calling me, I think Mr. Mercado was still on his break.
I waited until 1:45pm, then I asked the lady again, she was
so shocked that time. Because Mr. Mercado went back at
Mary Kay and went out by 1:30pm. He called Mr. Mercado
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 55
with her phone, she told me that they will call me so my
interview will be set again for the next day. I just say “Okay”.
On my part, I felt disappointed and I said to myself, if I’ll be
going again in that place by the next day - I will not.
Maybe this was not for me, in the start I was so excited
but when my auntie told me that the location is very far, I
felt sad. This leads me think to find a new OJT, but I didn’t
do. Days before my interview I think not to attend on my
interview since my auntie didn’t agreed with me, but I said
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 56
to myself that it is okay to fail or not on the interview atleast I
attended on their invitation and I didn’t make an absent. I
answered the MKP Employment Application Form the night
before my interview, the application is not responding, this
made me again to think that this was not for me.
I went back to school and I received a call from
someone, from Mr. James Mercado. He felt very sorry to me
so as a return he will going to interview me for real. He was
the one who will go to my location. He set the nearest
landmark to me which is the Starbucks SM Sucat for my
interview.

The schedule of my interview was 3:00pm. To make this
story short, I passed on his interview. He explained me first
Mary Kay. Then later on, as the conversation goes on,
coming from him, “You’re okay to me.” He said to me that
I’ll be having my final interview on March 24, 2016 with Ms.
Karen Yeung, it was a videocall interview, later on became
a phonecall interview.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 58
He texted me again for rescheduling of my interview
because, the Human Resources Manager of Mary Kay is in
Hong Kong.
March 24, 2016
I charged my phone and I’m waiting for the call. By
2:31pm I received a call, finally this is it. I was at my friend’s
house that time. So when my phone rang, I get my phone
and find a better signal.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 59
I answered all her questions. I spoke straight in English,
because she’s also speaking with me in English. Most of her
questions are very challenging. Since I was challenged in
my school, all my answers are based on my experiences,
from what I have learned in our classes, in school and also in
our organization. It was really a great conversation. I was
also proud of myself. Finally, I was interviewed by an
employer. Honestly speaking, I think I passed and I did a
great job.
March 31, 2016
I received a text message from Mr. James Mercado.
This is what I’ve been waiting for so long. To be hired in a big
company.

WEEK 1
Supply Chain and Administration – this is the department
where I was assigned to conduct my Internship Training. On my
first day of training, I was very excited and somewhat nervous
because of the new environment and the new people
surrounding me. I didn’t have any idea of what kind of people
they are and it made me adjust myself with their personalities and
attitudes.
I was introduced to our designated department, Mr. James
Mercado, Senior Manager for Supply Chain and Administration,
oriented me about the company rules and regulations. Even the
Do’s and Don’ts are discussed too. He also introduced me as
intern to all the staff and employees who were on that day. He
accompanied me to my table where I will be staying during my
Internship Training. During that moment, I felt that I was really an
office girl already having my own office computer, chair and
table. The first task that Mr. Mercado asked me to do is to make a
storyline for Mary Kay Pay & Pick-Up Infomercial. He first discussed
me a brief summary of Mary Kay Pay & Pick-Up Infomercial Plan
so I will have an idea on what to do. At first, it was really hard
because I’m just writing the story but then I tried to draw the flow
of the story. I always received good feedback from Mr. Mercado
about my work because at the end of the day, I passed him all
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 62
my works. This infomercial really challenged me, my heart and my
brain.
As the day goes on, I continued revising the script to know
which is better. I also edited some pictures to make it real. I
finalized the storyboard. It was just a brief storyline for each
episode.
We had a business meeting with LBC at LBC Express Plaza 66
Newport City, Pasay City for the proposal of making LBC as the
courier partner of Mary Kay. I was able to present the storyline of
the infomercial I made and proudly it was approved by LBC.
My first task was really a BIG ONE. It never comes in my
mind that I can do a script for an infomercial of a big company.
During my first week working at Mary Kay Philippines Inc. I’ve
learned many things which are really related in my chosen course
– Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in
Marketing Management. While we are having our business
meeting with LBC, I was able to learn new things as well as those
terms that are already familiar to me related to Marketing. My first
week was really a good start and I was motivated to perform
excellently because of what I have already accomplished and
because of Mr. Mercado who is very accommodating and kind
to me.

WEEK 2
On the second week of my Internship Training, there are
many things that I have accomplished. I was tasked to do the
LBC Directory Mapping Abbreviation to be used in the system of
Mary Kay Pay & Pick-Up, made games for employees and Beauty
Consultants (Gamification is the term in Marketing), studied the
Standard Operating Procedure of Applause Magazine
Distribution.
In the LBC Directory Mapping Abbreviation, I encoded the
1199 addresses of LBC Branches around the Philippines. This is
where I discovered that LBC was spread and continue spreading
all over the Philippines.
In the Mary Kay Games, I was really challenged on this task.
I have even no idea on what to do. I only have numbers. But also,
I have my computer. I researched some ideas to make this
possible. I wrote first my ideas, and I continued thinking of it. As an
output, it was really great, because I finally made the mechanics
for these games. And also, I edited or I made pictures which are
needed to complete these games.

WEEK 3
On the third week of my Internship Training, I had only 3 days
to work at the office. This was the time that I realized; life was
really boring if you’re not doing anything.
I have been waiting for Mr. Mercado because I’m done
with my assignments from him. I texted him on what to do, since
he was not in the office yet. He replied that he will give me a task
on the afternoon. On my mind, what should I do know? I went to
Ms. Maru Capuno’s office and I asked for work. This is where she
assigned me a Marketing Department’s work.
I made the list of products registered to Food and Drug
Administration. But before that, I checked all the scanned files of
products registered to FDA. This is where I realized that all beauty
products must be registered first to FDA before you sell it to the
market. Whenever Mary Kay products are registered
internationally, they are also following the policies here in the
Philippines. I checked and encoded the registered name of
each product in the FDA scanned files. From the excel file given
to me, I checked the codes and the product names if it was
same with what was written in the Mary Kay Consultant Order
Sheet. I added some comments if variances occurred. This is
where I compared the results I gained from what I have
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 68
researched. They can now easily check if each product
registration is to near to expired.
I received the sample video for Episode 1 made by the
video editor then I presented it to Mr. Mercado. He asked me to

This week was full of comparation, thinking and visualization.
I had only 3 days for this week. I was sick on the 4th day and
supposedly I’m planning to go to work on the 5th day, but my boss
told me to stay at home and have some rest, since he’s not in the
office and on that day.

WEEK 4
On the fourth week of my Intership Training, I experienced
how Mary Kay celebrated Mary Kay Philippines Birthday.
I was tasked by Ms. Maru Capuno to do the Cycle Count for
the second week of May 2016. Cycle count, is counting the
quantity of each of the Mary Kay product. From the 5 Branches
of Mary Kay Philippines, Makati, Quezon City, Davao, Cebu and
Zamboanga, I encoded their counts to the excel file. When I’m
done encoding the data I gained, I compared their counts to the
counts in the system. This is where some products have excessed
and some products were missing. I made a report about the
Summary of the Cycle Count for the second week of May 2016.
So Ms. Capuno can easily inform each branch about the
variance.
I researched hotels and office spaces in Davao, Cebu and
Zamboanga and also I researched the total number of branches
of PesoPay payment methods. PesoPay is the name of service
offered by AsiaPay.
I inquired to the hotels and office spaces and asked for
quotations. This is where I learned how to create a good
relationship with Mary Kay partners,

I finished the task assigned to me, as always, I asked for
work. Mr. Mercado told me to have some rest and observe
what’s happening in the Function Room, the Diamond Room. I
just took some photos to add to my gallery. The guests and even
the hosts are very productive and you can see into their eyes that
they were enjoying the event. Since the theme of the party is
Sweet 16, all the guests are wearing a 16 aged party dress no
matter how young or old are them. I helped the hosts for some
technical works because they were asking for help of anyone but
no one is coming. I really enjoyed this event. Mary Kay prizes are
very expensive, that’s why the guests are all interested. I was sure
that all of them where going home with a big smile on their faces
because of the learnings, enjoyment, prizes and freebies they
received.

WEEK 5
On the fifth week of my Internship Training, this is where the
Marketing Department asked for help.
I can relate the work given to me based on the stories
shared by my professors during class hours. I made the Philippine
Forecasting for May 2016. It was just a comparation of Avon
products to Mary Kay products. I checked their brochure online
and compared the price and weight of their products which is
similar to Mary Kay products. It was a Marketing Major duty and I
think in the future I’ll be doing it.
I also went to the nearest malls in our location for some
actual research. I was just assigned by Ms. Fatima Lopez to check
the weight, price and brands of each fragrance and I made a
report on it. Since I’m not contented, I also researched
fragrances online. I prepared to make it both in excel and word
file. I also included pictures of fragrances for the kinds and
designs of bottles used.
I enjoyed doing these things, my researched will be used for
their Product Forecasting.

WEEK 6
On the sixth week of my Intership Training, I finalized the flow
of the Mary Kay Pay & Pick-up Infomercial Episode 1 and 2.
Using the Mary Kay guide colors, I made the revisions from
Mr. Mercado’s suggestions and comment s and also from my
own perception. It was really hard because I’m not aloud to
download any video editor application on the computer I’m
using. What I did is, I made the video using Microsoft PowerPoint. I
used Microsoft Publisher to edit photos. After editing the timings
and effects of the video, I converted it to Windows Media Video.
I researched an online application to add music on the video I
produced, successfully I made it.
It was really hard to edit a video using PowerPoint, because
of the timings. That was the hardest thing that I experienced, but I
never gave up. I showed it to Mr. Mercado, he never expected
that I can do it. He just hired an intern which course is BSBA Major
in Marketing Management and he never thought that this
student can do other things. Since he told me that Mary Kay
needs a logo for the new service that they will be going to
launch, and whom to do. I made it; I made 5 logos so he can
choose.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 76
I think these are my best contributions to Mary Kay
Philippines. He presented the final infomercial and the logo I
made to the Mary Kay employees during their meeting for
approval.
I made a research on hotels and offices for lease in Iloilo
City, Iloilo, Angeles City, Pampanga, Naga City, Camarines Sur,
Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Baguio City, Benguet,
Bacolod City, Negros Occidental for Mary Kay expansion.
Honestly, everytime I’m done with my work, my boss
problem is what should be my next assignment/work.

WEEK 7
On the seventh week of my Internship Training, I learned so
many things.
I inquired on the hotels and offices for lease in my list in Iloilo
City, Iloilo, Angeles City, Pampanga, Naga City, Camarines Sur,
Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Baguio City, Benguet,
Bacolod City, Negros Occidental for Mary Kay expansion. I
gathered al the information I asked and made a report on it.
Mr. Mercado tasked me to do his expenses for
reimbursement. First, I sorted his receipts from date-to-date. Next, I
encoded the data of receipts from business purposes to the excel
file. The date, day, description, liter(gasoline) & total amount are
the information I gathered from the receipts. I was amazed in the
total amount he needs to reimburse.
I also observed again in the Mary Kay Warehouse Makati,
but this time I helped them. I helped the personnel in the counter
area by taking the orders of the customers and what to be done
in their order slip. I also taught the orders in the system in finalizing
and printing the customer's order through walk-in and online. I
also served the orders of the customers. I really enjoyed this
experience.

I was assigned by Ms. Riza Diche to do prepare the
Quotation of Local Suppliers for the Look August. This is where I
prepared the quotations of 3 local suppliers and encoded it on
one sheet to easily know which supplier has the lowest price.
Quotations given by the supplier per sizes are VAT inclusive, so I
need to remove the VAT by simply dividing the price by 1.12. By
the way 12% is constant. As additional work, I was tasked to
research 3 local suppliers of spray bottles and dry facial cloth.
I was also tasked by Ms. Fatima Lopez to research the
number of brands, products and categories of the top 10 Direct
Selling Industries in the Philippines. I downloaded and checked all
their brochures online. This is not an easy work.
This week was really full of work. They are giving task on the
same time. But I’m happy because I did it and I learned so much.

WEEK 8
On the eighth week of my Internship Training, I felt like I’m on
a game.
After doing the task given by the Marketing Department,
Ms. Riza Diche as the purchasing assistant asked my help in
compiling and checking send by the suppliers of Mary Kay
Philippines Inc. I was given an excel file to indicate which
document was already submitted by the suppliers. This is where I
discovered that, not all the products being sold by Mary Kay are
made by them. Beauty products, such as products applied in the
skin, are the only products made by Mary Kay. And also, I learned
here the documents need to be submitted by the suppliers.
The game started when Mr. Mercado tasked me to fix the
Key Safe Box of Mary Kay. I checked all the keys in the box if it’s
all functional by simply inserting the keys in the specific door
stated in the key holder. Then, I separated the keys in three
groups - functional, not functional and no label. I was the one
who bought the key holders at WalterMart Makati because I
assigned colors to the keys. I printed a ruler as my substitute ruler
because there’s no ruler at the office. I used the ruler to measure
the exact size available for the name of the key holder. Then I
printed all the names of the keys with a code in each holder. I
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 84
placed the functional keys to the key holders. I made a map of
Mary Kay office, Beauty Center and Warehouse, and I indicate
there the code of each key. And also, I made a code locator, so
it will be easy for them to know the location of the key. Mr. James
was very happy because he can now easily find the key when
he’s going to look for it.
Next on the list is encoding 42,029 zip codes in the
Philippines. I researched those locations which are not located in
the file sent to me. This is where I discovered that not all the
places in Paranaque have one zip code.
At the end day of this week, I was assigned at Agility Global
Integrated Logistics in Paranaque. By the way, Mary Kay
Philippines Inc. is a client of Agility and Agility provides supply
chain solutions to meet traditional and complex customer needs.
Agility offers air, ocean and road freight forwarding, warehousing,
distribution, and specialized services in project logistics, chemical
logistics, and fairs and events. My mission there is to do the Mary
Kay Warehouse Audit Checklist. After doing that, I helped the
personnels.

WEEK 9
On the ninth week of my Internship Training, I stayed on my
first 3 days in Agility, Paranaque City and my last 2 days in Mary
Kay Inc., Makati City.
At Mary Kay Warehouse in Agility Global Integrated
Logistics, I learned and discovered a lot. I was amazed with the
learnings I gained, because of the process and system in the
warehouse. On my 3 days staying with them, I did what they are
doing. I experienced everything except from carrying boxes.
Personnel of Mary Kay here are very friendly, we always laugh but
at the same time we are doing our work. I was there to observe
and know if they are really doing their task. From my 4 days
experienced with them, they are all very active. Even the
personnel in the office are doing the task of the workers when
they are not busy. We created good and unforgettable
memories.
I spent my last two days at the Mary Kay office in Makati.
Last Thursday, Mr. Matthew Sau-Ching Chiang, Mary Kay Asia
Services Regional Operations Director for Asia Pacific asked me
about my experienced in Agility, the lessons I learned, the
changes I want to be improve, and too many questions. I didn’t
expect that he will ask me some questions. Because I was at the
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 87
MK Warehouse Makati that time, and he was looking for Mr.
Recide. Since Mr. Recide is out of the office and he was
supposed to inspect at the warehouse, it turned out into asking
me and ended into a great conversation. He also told me to
come back at Mary Kay after I graduated, and applied for a job.
By the way, Mr. Chiang stays at Mary Kay Hong Kong, he was
supposed to visit in Philippines for a week in a month.
The last work I did is filing the documents of Mary Kay Cars.
This is where I discovered that Mary Kay is giving cars to their
successful Beauty Consultants. I also experienced on my last day
the Blessing of the Company. According to Ms. Sobee Duenas,
Mary Kay Philippines General Manager, this is the second time
that the Mary Kay Makati was blessed. There are a lot of foods,
and also June Employee Assembly was held. This is where I
experienced MK employees gathering together and presenting
each others report based on where department they belong. It
was a great moment, as I’m listening to them, I see myself in the
future that I will be like them. I will be also presenting to everyone
the success we’ve made.
After my work, I used to give a token of my deepest
appreciation to Mr. James Mercado and also he gave me some
Mary Kay Products. His words of wisdom are really great. He gave
me some advices on how to build my future successfully. I was so
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 88
blessed that I have him as my boss. He thanked me a lot for
helping, for what I have contributed to Mary Kay. He asked me
for a part time job, but I used to reject it for this moment because
I want to focus on my studies. And also, he and Mr. Matthew
Chiang, asked me to come back at Mary Kay after I finished
college. He told me also that I performed better than the other
employees. I was really proud because he was impressed. His
kindness, support and determination to have my incredible
Internship Training helped me a lot to experience the best in this
company.
This was my last day and I can say that this Internship
Training I have at Mary Kay Philippines Inc. transformed me to a
real better person. The experience increased my commitment,
competence and compassion as a UCP Bachelor of Science in
Business Administration Major in Marketing Management student
who is soon to become part of the society outside as a working
professional.

LEARNINGS
Intelligence is one of the key to succeed. No one can take it
away from us. But having knowledge is not enough to succeed in
life. We need to use it on the proper way. We have to persist to
anything undertaken to attain our goals. On my training I learned
a lot such as improving my whole personality in terms of
understanding and vision towards life.
I can say now that nothing beats experience. The training I
had in the Mary Kay Philippines Inc. is about learning many
experiences each day. It served as the beginning, a stepping
stone to the real life of being an employee. It helped me acquire
relevant knowledge and skills by performing in an actual work
setting.
During the days of my training I’d familiarized the supply
chain management, distribution process, product forecasting,
warehousing activities, direct selling industry, product registration
and performance and B2B relationship.
I learned it is best to do and show your best. Ask your boss if
they have some work for you to do. You will never know, they
might hire you after the internship or in the future. I think studying
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 91
is harder than working, though; the real world is easier than
college.
I had realized that our problems in life are like problems in
work, we must always look for the best solution. We could not
solve it alone. It’s like the saying “No man is an island” in other
words, we could not live with ourselves only; we need the help of
other people to overcome the problems in life.
In this training I can say that I am transformed into a real
better person.
M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 92
CONCLUSION
Through this OJT, I saw the difference when you are in
school and in the real world. Most of the time you’ve just learn
theoretically in school while in realworld, you actually experience
and apply what the trainers taught to you.
The Internship Training experience is worth the time, effort
and hardwork. The short period of time that I have spent in the
Mary Kay Philippines Inc. contributed a lot to the increase in my
awareness, understanding and practical application of my
course. The experience was a wakeup call to my involvement in
the realities and opportunities of our country in the Supply Chain
and Marketing Industry, and to be a part of that bright and strong
outlook of the future led me out of my limited theoretical and
ideological grounding which were enriched by my practical
experience more on realistic foundation of marketing. The
experience increased my commitment, competence and
compassion as a UCP Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration Major in Marketing Management student who is
soon to become part of the society outside as a working
professional.

The Internship Training experience is worth the time, effort
and hard work. I can say now that nothing beats experience.
The training I had in the Mary Kay Philippines Inc. is about
learning many experiences each day. It served as the beginning,
a stepping stone to the real life of being an employee. It helped
me acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in an
actual work setting.
The experience increased my commitment, competence
and compassion as a UCP Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration Major in Marketing Management student who is
soon to become part of the society outside as a working
professional.
Thanks for the experience, thanks Mary Kay Philippines.

First of all, I would like to thank Almighty God, for His unconditional love and for all the blessings He is showering upon me each day of my life. With love and gratitude, I thank Him for guiding me during my Internship Training and for making this training a possible one. For the provision He has bestowed upon me, for keeping me and my love ones always safe, especially when I was travelling from home (Parañaque) to my workplace (Makati) and vice-versa, for giving me enough knowledge and ability to perform each task that was assigned to me, and for all the challenges He has given me that made me stronger than ever. I thank Him for His comfort during the times that I am about to give up and for healing me when I was sick. By His grace, I was able to finish this training without any conflict. To our College Coordinator, Ms. Pacita B. Castro for guiding us in choosing the right company for our Internship Training. Over the years, there have been many successful business leaders but none as unique as Mary Kay Ash. A dream company When Mary Kay Ash “retired” from a successful career in direct sales in early 1963, she decided to write a book to help women survive in the male-dominated business world. She made two lists. One contained things the companies for which she had worked had done right, the other included the things she felt they could have done better. When she reviewed the lists, Mary Kay realized that she had inadvertently created a marketing plan for a dream company – one which would provide women with open ended potential to achieve personal and financial success. With her life savings of $5,000 and the help of her 20-year-old son Richard Rogers, Mary Kay launched her dream company on Friday, Sept. 13, 1963.
  • 26. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 17 Guiding philosophies Mary Kay adopted the Golden Rule as her guiding philosophy, determining that the best course of action in virtually any situation could be easily discerned by doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. She also steadfastly believed that life’s priorities should be kept in their proper order, which to her meant putting faith first, family second and career third. She stressed the importance of recognizing the accomplishments of others. And she constantly encouraged both the corporate staff and the independent sales force to act as if each person they met was wearing a sign around his or her neck that read “Make me feel important”. Today, Mary Kay remains true to the principles of Mary Kay Ash. Mary Kay Ash’s honors Countless business leaders, authors, politicians and members of academia have recognized the pure brilliance and determination of Mary Kay Ash. Maybe this was not for me, in the start I was so excited but when my auntie told me that the location is very far, I felt sad. This leads me think to find a new OJT, but I didn’t do. On my first day of training, I was very excited and somewhat nervous because of the new environment and the new people surrounding me. I didn’t have any idea of what kind of people they are and it made me adjust myself with their personalities and attitudes. I was introduced to our designated department, Mr. James Mercado, Senior Manager for Supply Chain and Administration, oriented me about the company rules and regulations. Even the Do’s and Don’ts are discussed too. He also introduced me as intern to all the staff and employees who were on that day. He accompanied me to my table where I will be staying during my Internship Training. During that moment, I felt that I was really an office girl already having my own office computer, chair and table. The first task that Mr. Mercado asked me to do is to make a storyline for Mary Kay Pay & Pick-Up Infomercial. He first discussed me a brief summary of Mary Kay Pay & Pick-Up Infomercial Plan so I will have an idea on what to do. At first, it was really hard because I’m just writing the story but then I tried to draw the flow of the story. I always received good feedback from Mr. Mercado about my work because at the end of the day, I passed him all

As the day goes on, I continued revising the script to know which is better. I also edited some pictures to make it real. I finalized the storyboard. It was just a brief storyline for each episode. We had a business meeting with LBC at LBC Express Plaza 66 Newport City, Pasay City for the proposal of making LBC as the courier partner of Mary Kay. I was able to present the storyline of the infomercial I made and proudly it was approved by LBC. My first task was really a BIG ONE. It never comes in my mind that I can do a script for an infomercial of a big company. During my first week working at Mary Kay Philippines Inc. I’ve learned many things which are really related in my chosen course – Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management. While we are having our business meeting with LBC, I was able to learn new things as well as those terms that are already familiar to me related to Marketing. My first week was really a good start and I was motivated to perform excellently because of what I have already accomplished and because of Mr. Mercado who is very accommodating and kind to me.

In the LBC Directory Mapping Abbreviation, I encoded the 1199 addresses of LBC Branches around the Philippines. This is where I discovered that LBC was spread and continue spreading all over the Philippines. In the Mary Kay Games, I was really challenged on this task. I have even no idea on what to do. I texted him on what to do, since he was not in the office yet. He replied that he will give me a task on the afternoon. On my mind, what should I do know? I went to Ms. Maru Capuno’s office and I asked for work. This is where she assigned me a Marketing Department’s work. I made the list of products registered to Food and Drug Administration. But before that, I checked all the scanned files of products registered to FDA. This is where I realized that all beauty products must be registered first to FDA before you sell it to the market. Whenever Mary Kay products are registered internationally, they are also following the policies here in the Philippines. I checked and encoded the registered name of each product in the FDA scanned files. From the excel file given to me, I checked the codes and the product names if it was same with what was written in the Mary Kay Consultant Order Sheet. I added some comments if variances occurred. From the 5 Branches of Mary Kay Philippines, Makati, Quezon City, Davao, Cebu and Zamboanga, I encoded their counts to the excel file. It was a Marketing Major duty and I think in the future I’ll be doing it. I also went to the nearest malls in our location for some actual research. I was just assigned by Ms. Fatima Lopez to check the weight, price and brands of each fragrance and I made a report on it. Since I’m not contented, I also researched fragrances online. Using the Mary Kay guide colors, I made the revisions from Mr. Mercado’s suggestions and comment s and also from my own perception. It was really hard because I’m not aloud to download any video editor application on the computer I’m using. What I did is, I made the video using Microsoft PowerPoint. I used Microsoft Publisher to edit photos. After editing the timings and effects of the video, I converted it to Windows Media Video. I researched an online application to add music on the video I produced, successfully I made it. It was really hard to edit a video using PowerPoint, because of the timings. That was the hardest thing that I experienced, but I never gave up. I showed it to Mr. Mercado, he never expected that I can do it. He just hired an intern which course is BSBA Major in Marketing Management and he never thought that this student can do other things. Since he told me that Mary Kay needs a logo for the new service that they will be going to launch, and whom to do. I made it; I made 5 logos so he can choose.

  • 88. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 79 WEEK 7 On the seventh week of my Internship Training, I learned so many things. I inquired on the hotels and offices for lease in my list in Iloilo City, Iloilo, Angeles City, Pampanga, Naga City, Camarines Sur, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Baguio City, Benguet, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental for Mary Kay expansion. I gathered al the information I asked and made a report on it. Mr. Mercado tasked me to do his expenses for reimbursement. First, I sorted his receipts from date-to-date. Next, I encoded the data of receipts from business purposes to the excel file. The date, day, description, liter(gasoline) & total amount are the information I gathered from the receipts. I was amazed in the total amount he needs to reimburse. I also observed again in the Mary Kay Warehouse Makati, but this time I helped them. I helped the personnel in the counter area by taking the orders of the customers and what to be done in their order slip. I also taught the orders in the system in finalizing and printing the customer's order through walk-in and online. I also served the orders of the customers. I really enjoyed this experience.
  • 89. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 80 I was assigned by Ms. Riza Diche to do prepare the Quotation of Local Suppliers for the Look August. This is where I prepared the quotations of 3 local suppliers and encoded it on one sheet to easily know which supplier has the lowest price. Quotations given by the supplier per sizes are VAT inclusive, so I need to remove the VAT by simply dividing the price by 1.12. By the way 12% is constant. As additional work, I was tasked to research 3 local suppliers of spray bottles and dry facial cloth. I was also tasked by Ms. Fatima Lopez to research the number of brands, products and categories of the top 10 Direct Selling Industries in the Philippines. I downloaded and checked all their brochures online. This is not an easy work. This week was really full of work. They are giving task on the same time. But I’m happy because I did it and I learned so much.

  • 92. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 83 WEEK 8 On the eighth week of my Internship Training, I felt like I’m on a game. After doing the task given by the Marketing Department, Ms. Riza Diche as the purchasing assistant asked my help in compiling and checking send by the suppliers of Mary Kay Philippines Inc. I was given an excel file to indicate which document was already submitted by the suppliers. This is where I discovered that, not all the products being sold by Mary Kay are made by them. Beauty products, such as products applied in the skin, are the only products made by Mary Kay. And also, I learned here the documents need to be submitted by the suppliers. The game started when Mr. Mercado tasked me to fix the Key Safe Box of Mary Kay. I checked all the keys in the box if it’s all functional by simply inserting the keys in the specific door stated in the key holder. Then, I separated the keys in three groups - functional, not functional and no label. I was the one who bought the key holders at WalterMart Makati because I assigned colors to the keys. I printed a ruler as my substitute ruler because there’s no ruler at the office. I used the ruler to measure the exact size available for the name of the key holder. Then I printed all the names of the keys with a code in each holder. I
  • 93. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 84 placed the functional keys to the key holders. I made a map of Mary Kay office, Beauty Center and Warehouse, and I indicate there the code of each key. And also, I made a code locator, so it will be easy for them to know the location of the key. Mr. James was very happy because he can now easily find the key when he’s going to look for it. Next on the list is encoding 42,029 zip codes in the Philippines. I researched those locations which are not located in the file sent to me. This is where I discovered that not all the places in Paranaque have one zip code. At the end day of this week, I was assigned at Agility Global Integrated Logistics in Paranaque. By the way, Mary Kay Philippines Inc. is a client of Agility and Agility provides supply chain solutions to meet traditional and complex customer needs. Agility offers air, ocean and road freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, and specialized services in project logistics, chemical logistics, and fairs and events. My mission there is to do the Mary Kay Warehouse Audit Checklist. After doing that, I helped the personnels.

  • 95. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 86 WEEK 9 On the ninth week of my Internship Training, I stayed on my first 3 days in Agility, Paranaque City and my last 2 days in Mary Kay Inc., Makati City. At Mary Kay Warehouse in Agility Global Integrated Logistics, I learned and discovered a lot. I was amazed with the learnings I gained, because of the process and system in the warehouse. On my 3 days staying with them, I did what they are doing. I experienced everything except from carrying boxes. Personnel of Mary Kay here are very friendly, we always laugh but at the same time we are doing our work. I was there to observe and know if they are really doing their task. From my 4 days experienced with them, they are all very active. Even the personnel in the office are doing the task of the workers when they are not busy. We created good and unforgettable memories. I spent my last two days at the Mary Kay office in Makati. Last Thursday, Mr. Matthew Sau-Ching Chiang, Mary Kay Asia Services Regional Operations Director for Asia Pacific asked me about my experienced in Agility, the lessons I learned, the changes I want to be improve, and too many questions. I didn’t expect that he will ask me some questions. Because I was at the
  • 96. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 87 MK Warehouse Makati that time, and he was looking for Mr. Recide. Since Mr. Recide is out of the office and he was supposed to inspect at the warehouse, it turned out into asking me and ended into a great conversation. He also told me to come back at Mary Kay after I graduated, and applied for a job. By the way, Mr. Chiang stays at Mary Kay Hong Kong, he was supposed to visit in Philippines for a week in a month. The last work I did is filing the documents of Mary Kay Cars. This is where I discovered that Mary Kay is giving cars to their successful Beauty Consultants. I also experienced on my last day the Blessing of the Company. According to Ms. Sobee Duenas, Mary Kay Philippines General Manager, this is the second time that the Mary Kay Makati was blessed. There are a lot of foods, and also June Employee Assembly was held. This is where I experienced MK employees gathering together and presenting each others report based on where department they belong. It was a great moment, as I’m listening to them, I see myself in the future that I will be like them. I will be also presenting to everyone the success we’ve made. After my work, I used to give a token of my deepest appreciation to Mr. James Mercado and also he gave me some Mary Kay Products. His words of wisdom are really great. He gave me some advices on how to build my future successfully. I was so
  • 97. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 88 blessed that I have him as my boss. He thanked me a lot for helping, for what I have contributed to Mary Kay. He asked me for a part time job, but I used to reject it for this moment because I want to focus on my studies. And also, he and Mr. Matthew Chiang, asked me to come back at Mary Kay after I finished college. He told me also that I performed better than the other employees. I was really proud because he was impressed. His kindness, support and determination to have my incredible Internship Training helped me a lot to experience the best in this company. This was my last day and I can say that this Internship Training I have at Mary Kay Philippines Inc. transformed me to a real better person. The experience increased my commitment, competence and compassion as a UCP Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management student who is soon to become part of the society outside as a working professional.

  • 99. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 90 LEARNINGS Intelligence is one of the key to succeed. No one can take it away from us. But having knowledge is not enough to succeed in life. We need to use it on the proper way. We have to persist to anything undertaken to attain our goals. On my training I learned a lot such as improving my whole personality in terms of understanding and vision towards life. I can say now that nothing beats experience. The training I had in the Mary Kay Philippines Inc. is about learning many experiences each day. It served as the beginning, a stepping stone to the real life of being an employee. It helped me acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in an actual work setting. During the days of my training I’d familiarized the supply chain management, distribution process, product forecasting, warehousing activities, direct selling industry, product registration and performance and B2B relationship. I learned it is best to do and show your best. Ask your boss if they have some work for you to do. You will never know, they might hire you after the internship or in the future. I think studying
  • 100. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 91 is harder than working, though; the real world is easier than college. I had realized that our problems in life are like problems in work, we must always look for the best solution. We could not solve it alone. It’s like the saying “No man is an island” in other words, we could not live with ourselves only; we need the help of other people to overcome the problems in life. In this training I can say that I am transformed into a real better person.
  • 101. M a r a i a A n g e l i c D . L o p e z | | 92 CONCLUSION Through this OJT, I saw the difference when you are in school and in the real world. Most of the time you’ve just learn theoretically in school while in realworld, you actually experience and apply what the trainers taught to you. The Internship Training experience is worth the time, effort and hardwork. The short period of time that I have spent in the Mary Kay Philippines Inc. contributed a lot to the increase in my awareness, understanding and practical application of my course. The experience was a wakeup call to my involvement in the realities and opportunities of our country in the Supply Chain and Marketing Industry, and to be a part of that bright and strong outlook of the future led me out of my limited theoretical and ideological grounding which were enriched by my practical experience more on realistic foundation of marketing. The experience increased my commitment, competence and compassion as a UCP Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management student who is soon to become part of the society outside as a working professional.
