2. Editing simply means how you link two (or more) individual
shots together, so how shot ‘A’ gets to shot ‘B’.
And continuity editing is a type of editing in which makes the
shots flow and not have jumpy looking edits, nice and smooth
edits between each individual shot.
This is a screen

video I created,

how the shots link
together, the

the edit between
each individual
shot.
3. Bordwell and Thompson developed the theory of continuity editing, and
when doing this, they split it into four separate parts.
Spatial editing means the space within the
shot, so the location/setting of the shot, and
how this can be manipulated to express a
certain assumption in the viewers mind. It is
a way of creating space in the shots
throughout the editing. A good example of
this is the Kuleshov effect, in which was a
psychological experiment in which
suggested that the use of editing can
change the way the audience would
interpret the array of images he is displaying
to the audience.
When seeing this you automatically assume the
man is hungry, suggesting that spatial editing
impacts what the viewer assumes, manipulation.
4. Spatialediting can be
used in music videos
when using a large
amount of extreme close
ups/close ups followed by
establishing shots in

manipulate the

space.
5. This is a type of editing in
which has a rhythm, for
example in the case of
music video’s edits with
the music, so the pace of
the shots follows the
music. It is a type of
editing in which considers
the duration of the shots,
the length of each shot in
relation to the beat of the For example in the Sleeping with

cuts are extremely fast to fit with the
fast paced beat of the music itself.
6. Types of this type of
editing include, graphic
match in which means
linking two shots
together by a similar
graphic, so still is
continuant, and in
contrast to this would
graphic discontinuity in
which means a contrast
in colour, movement etc.
7. The final of these four
sections would be temporal
editing, and this editing
takes into consideration
the time of the action and
contributes to the plots
manipulation of story time.
It effects the order,
duration and frequency of An example in a music video
