Media question 4
1. Q4. Who would be the audience for your media
product?
Varun Kongara
S
2. Who is your target audience in terms of age?
Why?
S My target audience are aged between 17 to 25 year olds.
S I decided to target this age group, because they are the age group
that are mostly associated with Hip Hop and Alternative Rap music.
They often listen to artists such as the „The Black Eyed Peas‟ or
„Eminem‟. So I decided to design „Tuned In‟ magazine geared towards
this particular age group. I considered things such as colours,
photography, lighting, language, maturity of content etc.
3. Who is your target audience in terms of gender? Why?
S The gender of my target audience is inclined more towards male‟s, but in
most ways the magazine is neutral. The way it is more inclined towards the
male audience, is by the use of darker, bolder colours on the magazine
front cover.
S I mentioned that it was also „neutral‟ in the gender it was targeting. This
point can be supported by the article, because the use of language is can
fit with both genders.
S I used photographs of males, in the magazine‟s, this could go against the,
claim that, the magazine is „neutral‟…But counting in the content of the
article, it doesn‟t address a particular gender, meaning it doesn‟t say things
like, “Alright girls!, what happened here?” or it have words such as “this
guy‟s a lad!” . So even though the photographs show only males, the
language used in the magazine, doesn‟t address/talk to a particular gender,
therefore this supports the point that it is „in most ways gender neutral‟.
4. What is the „profile‟ of your audience?
Why?
• The person in my audience is between the ages of
17 and 20,
• His interests are – Hip Hop & Rap music, speakers
& headphones enthusiast, gaming, films.
• His attitudes are - He‟s says, “I like to music just as
another part of life, a big part!” He thinks life would
be too dull/and boring without music… He say‟s “I
listen to music, to help, face the rubbish, the world
throws at you”
• His lifestyle - He works a part time job as tech
support, for a local electronics store. On his free
time, he relaxes, or he tries making music with his
DJ mixer.
• Shopping habits - He occasionally shops on iTunes
for music, films, TV etc, but he says, internet
shopping is so much better than the normal stores
around town.
