A Presentation About Outdoor
Installation
INTRODUCTION
Kallol Ghosh2
A cell site is a site where antennas and electronic communications equipment are
placed, usually on a tower or other high place, to create a cell (or adjacent cells)
in a cellular network. Cellular (cell) phones first became widely available in the
United States in the 1990s, but since then their use has increased dramatically.
The widespread use of cell phones has led to cell phone towers being placed in
many communities. These towers, also called base stations, have electronic
equipment and antennas that receive and transmit radio frequency (RF) signals.
According to the RF Plan we have to install the antenna at a proper height on
tower. Installation procedure is different for many others company, but there are
no any complexity regarding that installation. In case of Nokia Siemens Network
they don’t use any loop or bend on RF cable. Reliance don’t use any Jumper
cable for a cell site. In this presentation we have discussed about the installation
procedure and quality point of outdoor equipments.

PROCEDURE TO INSTALL AN ANTENNA
Kallol Ghosh7
First we have to make the connection between antenna port and jumper cable
and connection should be weather proofed, and other end of jumper cable
should be covered by polythene. If we give mechanical tilt then it should be
done at bellow, electrical tilt should be avoided at this condition because, it
should be change by touching the tower body.
ANTENNA INSTALLATION :
Kallol Ghosh8
We have to take the antenna up on tower with the help of pulley or rope
Keep the antenna away from tower body by pulling the rope carefully.

According to the RF Plan we have to set the
antenna at proper height with the pole mount by
using the antenna clamps with the appropriate
electrical tilt. Antenn

Now routing the outdoor jumper cable properly by using the cable ties and
connects it to the RF Cable by using the 7/8”M RF connector. Indoor
Jumper should b connected with BTS port.
Combination of connector in Jumper cable:
Kallol Ghosh14
1. 7/8 F – 7/8 M
2. 7/8 M – 7/8 M
3. 7/8 F – 7/8 F

Apart from these some more arrangements are
1. 7/8 M – 7/16 M
2. 7/8 M – 7/16 F
3. 7/8 F – 7/16 M
4. 7/8 F – 7/16 F

Quality Check Point Of Jumper Cable:
Kallol Ghosh15
In case of U-Loop of both jumper cable should be parallel
There should not be any sharp bend in the jumper cable
In case of close loop there should be two cable ties at the
touching point
Routing of Jumper cable should be done by using cable ties
Distance of the two cable ties should be uniform and approx
200mm.
At the bend in the Jumper cable at least two cable ties should
be provided at touching edge

Specification Of RF Cable:
Kallol Ghosh17
• Size of the inner core is equal to the size of normal
co-axial cable.
• As it’s a hollow , so it increase surface, decrease
resistance, increase capacity, increase flexibility,
lesser cost
• Inner Core : Pure Copper.
• Soft Insulation : Fume
• Outer Core : Pure Copper Cylindrical Tube.
• Outer Insulation : Hard Insulation , black in color.
• Size Of The Cable : diameter 5/4” or 7/5”

Outdoor Installation Quality Points

  • 1. Submitted by: Kallol Ghosh Kallol Ghosh1 A Presentation About Outdoor Installation
  • 2. INTRODUCTION Kallol Ghosh2 A cell site is a site where antennas and electronic communications equipment are placed, usually on a tower or other high place, to create a cell (or adjacent cells) in a cellular network. Cellular (cell) phones first became widely available in the United States in the 1990s, but since then their use has increased dramatically. The widespread use of cell phones has led to cell phone towers being placed in many communities. These towers, also called base stations, have electronic equipment and antennas that receive and transmit radio frequency (RF) signals. According to the RF Plan we have to install the antenna at a proper height on tower. Installation procedure is different for many others company, but there are no any complexity regarding that installation. In case of Nokia Siemens Network they don’t use any loop or bend on RF cable. Reliance don’t use any Jumper cable for a cell site. In this presentation we have discussed about the installation procedure and quality point of outdoor equipments.

If we give mechanical tilt then it should be done at bellow, electrical tilt should be avoided at this condition because, it should be change by touching the tower body.
  • 8. ANTENNA INSTALLATION : Kallol Ghosh8 We have to take the antenna up on tower with the help of pulley or rope Keep the antenna away from tower body by pulling the rope carefully.
  • 9. BTS 9 Kallol Ghosh According to the RF Plan we have to set the antenna at proper height with the pole mount by using the antenna clamps with the appropriate electrical tilt.
