2. The Topic
My topic is about building a computer, I chose this topic as computers have always
interested me and I feel that it is necessary for me to get a better knowledge about the
subject of computers including how to build them and how to effectively use them to
their full potential.
My global context is Scientific and technical innovation, this global context helps me
focus on my project as it allows me better understand my topic as it makes me question
how the parts are made and how they work together.
3. Goals
My goal by November 3rd is to have a fully built PC that is can utilize it’s full potential, for
this it must be cost effective and it must not be bottlenecked. This computer should be
planned and should be organized. It should also be stable and able to run applications
quickly and with no stuttering.
4. Research
I have conducted lots of research so far, In particular I have been researching what parts
of a computer are compatible with eachother and which components have the best price
per performance and which of these components is suitable for my price range.
For my research I have been using multiple online sources such as news websites
educational websites and sometimes even forums to see what parts are recommended
for each other and which parts are not.
It has been very interesting for me as before I underestimated the number of different
companies and brands sell computer parts and how many individual parts they sell.
6. Timeline
For my plan to finish the computer
by November 3rd I created a
timeline to help organize myself
this has been very successful as I
am on track at the moment with
my computer built as I am
currently installing the drivers and
fixing issue with the graphics card.
I would say that I have been very
good in terms of organization as I
am currently working on posting
pictures of my computer to my
blog to show of my computer.
7. Product
For my product I am almost done I am still tweaking with the overclock and still fixing
issues with my operating system and my graphics card. Next for my build I will focus
more on the benchmark of the build I will stress test my PC for a few days and see the
maximum performance I can get out of my computer
8. Critical Thinking
There have been many issues with my build and I have had to use critical thinking to
solve them. For example many of my wires had to fit through a small hole in the top of
my case. To solve this I decided to mod the case to make the holes bigger with a drill I
used my skills that I acquired from design to sand and increase the size of the hole. I also
had to use critical thinking to fit a fan in the top of the case where the fan would not fit
inside the mesh cage, for this I used a drill to cut the supports off of the mesh cage.
9. Communication Skills
I went on a website called LinusTechTips. I have been on this website before and it
has been very useful to me in the past. I created a post on the website asking the
users for suggestions on what I should use in my build this should go nicely with my
previous table of price per performance. On the site I asked the users to suggest PC
builds that would cost around $1500.
