The Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
“There are three men about whom I can take
an oath. No man’s wealth can be reduced by
charity. Any man who shows patience in the
face of oppression, Allah honours him. And a
man who opens the door to begging, Allah
opens on him the door to poverty and want.”
[Ibn Majah]
3. Oath on Sadaqah
What prevents a person from spending in Sadaqah is the thought
that charity reduces wealth, brings a man nearer to poverty, and
takes away from him the peace and reassurance available to him
under the shadow of wealth. Such a thought is generated by
Shaitaan, who wishes to see us as hoarders of low and mean nature.
The reality is that a person who spends the gifts of Allah with him
generously, gets his hands constantly refilled with the gifts of Allah.
He is always showered by the favours and blessings of Allah. The
Prophet (saws) has sworn in this hadith that Sadaqah does not
decrease wealth.
4. Oath on Patience
It often happens in family matters that with the people nearest and
dearest to us we are least forgiving. Somebody says something harsh
and Shaitaan immediately jumps to our side telling us to throw a brick in
exchange for a stone. He incites us saying that unless we crush the
other person in retaliation we will never get any respect.
But this is not the formula for honour given by our beloved Prophet
(saws). He told us to forbear the personal insults we receive to bring us
honour.
It is sad that we are willing to show forbearance when Allah (SWT) is
insulted, and patience when Muhammad (saws) is maligned, but quick to
react when the lowly persons of ourselves are treated contemptuously.
5. Oath on Begging
It is against the honour of a Muslim to ask of others – let alone
beg. This hadith tells us that begging brings us no good anyway.
Allah (SWT) guarantees that person poverty who stretches his
hand out in front of others instead of Allah.
If you want anything pray and ask Allah (SWT) for it. He is the
source of everything anyway. Teach your children also to ask
from Allah, rather than from you. If it is written for them, Allah will
put it in the heart of the person through whom it is to reach them.
