Over Open Optical Line System
ADVA Optical Networking and Arista Networks have
teamed up to deliver open, high-performance data
center interconnect (DCI) solutions. The companies
achieved top performance and efficiency during a long-
distance demonstration using real-world data traffic
patterns over an open environment based on the ADVA
FSP 3000 CloudConnect™, the industry’s only truly open
DCI solution, and the Arista 7500E switch, the industry’s
highest-performance data center switch for large
virtualized and cloud networks. The open multi-vendor
demonstration successfully delivered real-world data
traffic patterns over a distance of 2000km using multiple
modulation patterns on adjacent channels spaced at
37.5GHz. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ supports
the Open Optical Line System mode of operation,
which allows Arista channels to reach full performance
when tightly interwoven with ADVA Optical Networking
channels.
The Only Truly Open DCI Solution
The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ has been built
directly with major internet content providers (ICPs)
and cloud service providers (CSPs) to meet their
stringent density, security and energy demands. It is
the industry’s only truly open DCI solution, supporting
both open hardware and open software standards to
enable best-in-breed networks. It can transport up to
25.6Tbit/s duplex capacity per fiber pair from a single
rack, delivering 51.2Tbit/s of total throughput at
1.4Tbit/s per rack unit, all at the lowest industry power,
less than 0.5W/Gbit/s. It is available in 1RU, 4RU,
and 12RU configurations, including system-in-a-box
solutions that include amplifiers, channel multiplexers,
and supervisory functions.
Arista 7500E DWDM
The Arista 100G DWDM solution integrates feature-rich
and high-performance layer 2 and layer 3 switching with
coherent DWDM interfaces into a single high-density line
card for the 7500E series chassis. It reduces complexity
and at the same time delivers a cost-effective and
highly scalable solution with encryption and wire-
speed performance for DCI in metro and long-haul
environments.

No More Need to Compromise
There are two ways of connecting switches and routers
to transport gear. The traditional way is to connect
grey clients to grey clients. This is easiest and most
straightforward. However, it is also the most inefficient,
as two additional client pluggable optics and a patch
cable are needed for every port. The second way is
to integrate the color interface into the switch and
router, thus avoiding the additional client optics and
patch cables. However, this approach has typically led
to vendor lock-in, as it meant selecting a large router
vendor who had fully integrated systems. Either choice
meant compromise. Today, that’s no longer necessary.
With ADVA Optical Networking’s open optical line system
solutions, coupled with Arista Networks’ switching
solutions, any combination of grey clients and color
interfaces can be combined into a transported data
stream. Goodbye vendor lock-in, goodbye compromise.
A Marriage Made in Heaven
When combined, the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ and
Arista 7500E DWDM solution deliver high-performance
DCI at all network layers. The Arista 7500E switch
delivers up to 900 million packets per second of L2 and
L3 IP forwarding and scales to over 30Tbit/s of total
capacity. It delivers 6 x 100Gbit/s coherent DP-QPSK
interfaces per card, with integrated 100Gbit/s MACsec
encryption. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ takes
the coherent output and channel multiplexes up to 128
channels into a single fiber pair, adds optical amplification
and reconfigurable add/drop capabilities, transporting
the 12.8Tbit/s aggregate signal over 2000km.

ADVA Optical Networking and Arista Networks in an Open Multi-Vendor DCI Demonstration

  • 1. 2000km Transmission Over Open Optical Line System ADVA Optical Networking and Arista Networks have teamed up to deliver open, high-performance data center interconnect (DCI) solutions. The companies achieved top performance and efficiency during a long- distance demonstration using real-world data traffic patterns over an open environment based on the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™, the industry’s only truly open DCI solution, and the Arista 7500E switch, the industry’s highest-performance data center switch for large virtualized and cloud networks. The open multi-vendor demonstration successfully delivered real-world data traffic patterns over a distance of 2000km using multiple modulation patterns on adjacent channels spaced at 37.5GHz. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ supports the Open Optical Line System mode of operation, which allows Arista channels to reach full performance when tightly interwoven with ADVA Optical Networking channels. The Only Truly Open DCI Solution The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ has been built directly with major internet content providers (ICPs) and cloud service providers (CSPs) to meet their stringent density, security and energy demands. It is the industry’s only truly open DCI solution, supporting both open hardware and open software standards to enable best-in-breed networks. It can transport up to 25.6Tbit/s duplex capacity per fiber pair from a single rack, delivering 51.2Tbit/s of total throughput at 1.4Tbit/s per rack unit, all at the lowest industry power, less than 0.5W/Gbit/s. It is available in 1RU, 4RU, and 12RU configurations, including system-in-a-box solutions that include amplifiers, channel multiplexers, and supervisory functions. Arista 7500E DWDM The Arista 100G DWDM solution integrates feature-rich and high-performance layer 2 and layer 3 switching with coherent DWDM interfaces into a single high-density line card for the 7500E series chassis. It reduces complexity and at the same time delivers a cost-effective and highly scalable solution with encryption and wire- speed performance for DCI in metro and long-haul environments. The traditional way is to connect grey clients to grey clients. This is easiest and most straightforward. However, it is also the most inefficient, as two additional client pluggable optics and a patch cable are needed for every port. The second way is to integrate the color interface into the switch and router, thus avoiding the additional client optics and patch cables. However, this approach has typically led to vendor lock-in, as it meant selecting a large router vendor who had fully integrated systems. Either choice meant compromise. Today, that’s no longer necessary. With ADVA Optical Networking’s open optical line system solutions, coupled with Arista Networks’ switching solutions, any combination of grey clients and color interfaces can be combined into a transported data stream. Goodbye vendor lock-in, goodbye compromise. A Marriage Made in Heaven When combined, the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ and Arista 7500E DWDM solution deliver high-performance DCI at all network layers. The Arista 7500E switch delivers up to 900 million packets per second of L2 and L3 IP forwarding and scales to over 30Tbit/s of total capacity. It delivers 6 x 100Gbit/s coherent DP-QPSK interfaces per card, with integrated 100Gbit/s MACsec encryption. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect™ takes the coherent output and channel multiplexes up to 128 channels into a single fiber pair, adds optical amplification and reconfigurable add/drop capabilities, transporting the 12.8Tbit/s aggregate signal over 2000km.
