Building and scaling a multi-cloud solution that's enabled for cloud bursting is not a trivial task, and requires a lot of automation. While experiencing hyper-growth on the Adobe Advertising Cloud, our operations engineering team had to frequently update and improve its workflow in order to stay nimble and allow fast delivery of new infrastructure. At TubeMogul/Adobe Advertising Cloud, we implemented a lean Puppet workflow that enables the operations engineering team to deploy and support a broad range of services in a complex environment that supports hundreds of billions of requests a day. With over 150 changes released per day on its production infrastructure, the team had to adjust and tune its processes to enforce quality, standards, to review, and to prevent systems from breaking. In this talk, you will learn how we implemented our infrastructure as code by leveraging tools like Puppet, Gerrit, Terraform, and Jenkins, which together enable our private and public cloud infrastructures across 12 locations and four continents.

Graphs are common in a variety of situation, from social networks to financial transactions. These graphs are gold mines of information, and being able to process them is key to the success of many businesses. Real graph, however, are growing larger and larger, and traditional software and algorithms cannot satisfy the performance needs of the most demanding users. Gospel, a research line at NECSTLab, aims at making graph processing faster and readily available to researchers and industry, by leveraging high-performance heterogeneous and novel computer architectures. From accelerating algorithms such as PageRank by making use of modern GPUs, to extending existing frameworks for graph analysis, Gospel offers a broad array of techniques to bring graph processing to the world of high-performance computing.

A typical machine learning pipeline begins as a series of preprocessing steps followed by experimentation, optimization and model-tuning, and, finally deployment. Jupyter notebooks have become a hugely popular tool for data scientists and other machine learning practitioners to explore and experiment as part of this workflow, due to the flexibility and interactivity they provide. However, with notebooks it is often a challenge to move from the experimentation phase to creating a robust, modular and production-grade end-to-end AI pipeline. Elyra is a set of open-source, AI centric extensions to JupyterLab. Elyra provides a visual editor for building notebook-based pipelines that simplifies the conversion of multiple notebooks into batch jobs or workflows. These workflows can be executed both locally (during the experimentation phase) and on Kubernetes via Kubeflow Pipelines for production deployment. In this way, Elyra combines the flexibility and ease-of-use of notebooks and JupyterLab, with the production-grade qualities of Kubeflow (and in future potentially other Kubernetes-based orchestration platforms). In this talk I introduce Elyra and its capabilities, then give a deep dive of Elyra's pipeline editor and the underlying pipeline execution mechanics, showing a demo of using Elyra to construct an end-to-end analytics and machine learning pipeline. I will also explore how to integrate and scale out model-tuning as well as deployment via Kubeflow Serving.
