  2. 2. Early history <ul><li>The Mongols became famous in the thirteenth century when under the rule of Khan. They took control of a huge Eurasian empire. After he died, the empire was divided into smaller powerful Mongol states, but they broke apart in the 14 th century. Mongolia became independent in 1921 with soviet backing. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Size & terrain <ul><li>The size of Mongolia is 1,564,116 square miles. It’s just a bit smaller than Alaska. Mongolia’s terrain is very sandy. The Gobi desert is on the south central area of Mongolia. It also has grassy plains, & mountains in the west & southwest. </li></ul>
  4. 4. The Population, Location, & Capital. <ul><li>The population of Mongolia is 2,996,081 in an estimate for July 2008. </li></ul><ul><li>The location of Mongolia is in northern Asia. In between the two countries China & Russia. </li></ul><ul><li>The capital of Mongolia Is the city of Ulaanbaatar. What that name means I may never know. </li></ul>

Constitution date & Independence <ul><li>The day that Mongolia established their constitution was the 12 th of February, 1992. </li></ul><ul><li>When Mongolia received independence from China was the 11 th of July, 1921. Now every year since, Mongolians celebrate Independence Day on every July 11 th . </li></ul>
  6. 6. Elevation records & Natural Resources <ul><li>The highest point in Mongolia is Nayramadlin Orgil, at 4,374m above sea level. The lowest point is at Hoh Nur, at 510m above sea level. </li></ul><ul><li>The natural resources in Mongolia are, tungsten, molybdenum, gold, iron, silver, copper, oil, coal, phosphates, fluorspar, tin, nickel, & zinc. </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Flag <ul><li>The Mongolian flag is striped with red & blue, & on the far left, there is the national symbol, which is a combination of the symbols for fire, sun, water, moon, earth, & the Ying-Yang symbol. </li></ul>

Natural Hazards & the Literacy percentage. <ul><li>The natural hazards that occur most often in Mongolia are dust storms, grassland & forest fires, drought, & “zud,” which is a harsh winter storm. </li></ul><ul><li>The percentage of people 15 years old & over that can read & write is 97.8% </li></ul>
  9. 9. Birth Rate & Recreation <ul><li>The birth rate for Mongolia is a 2007 estimate of 21.09 births per 1000 of the population. </li></ul><ul><li>For recreation, the most watched & played sports in Mongolia are horse racing, archery, & Mongolian wrestling. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Languages & Religions <ul><li>The languages used in Mongolia are: 90% Khalkha Mongol, & 10% Turkic & Russian. </li></ul><ul><li>The religions practiced in Mongolia are: 50% Buddhist Lamaist, 6% Shamanist & Christian, 4% Muslim, & 40% none. </li></ul>
