How to learn English
1. Who is more practical between the
two? How?
I think Raghib is more practical between
the two. Because he did not read a book
on riding a bicycle. Instead, he took out
his bicycle and tried to ride it. And he
succeeded at last.

2. What was Adeeb’s problem in
learning to ride a cycle?
Adeeb’s problem was his starting to read
a book on riding a bicycle instead of
practising it. He learnt some rules but did
not gather any practical experience.

26. Lesson:3
How to learn English
3. How is learning a language similar to
riding a bicycle?
If someone wants to ride a bicycle, he must
practise riding it . Similarly if anyone wants to
learn a language he must use it in his
everyday communication. Mere grammatical
rules are not enough for learning a language,
as learning the theoretical rules of riding a
bicycle is not enough.

4. What is the writer’s attitude towards
making mistakes? Are mistake tolerated in
your English class? What about in other
classes?
The writer’s attitude towards making mistakes
is positive. Mistakes are tolerated in our
English class because we will be able to learn
through mistake. In other classes mistakes
are tolerated but not always. We should never
ridicule anyone for making mistakes.

28. Lesson:3
How to learn English Text
Two friends, Raghib and Adeeb, wanted to learn how to ride a
bicycle, Adeeb bought a book called "How to Ride a cycle" and
started reading it. On the other hand, Raghib took out his bicycle
on the street and started trying to ride it. He fell off several times
and Adeeb laughed at him.
However, by the time Adeeb finished the first chapter of his
book, Raghib was riding his cycle fairly well. Adeeb knew how
the cycle worked but did not know how to use it from first-hand
experience.
Learning a language is like riding a cycle. The most important
thing about any language is communication. You learn to
communicate effectively by using a language, by doing things
with it and by experiencing it. You can learn English in the same
way that Raghib learnt to ride a cycle. Don't worry if people
laugh at you when you make mistakes. You can certainly learn
through mistakes.
