I am one of the founders of Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDAs), a branch of evolutionary computation that combines statistical machine learning and evolutionary theory to build predictive models of objective functions to improve optimization. For over 20 years I have led research projects in areas of applied mathematics and computer intelligence: evolutionary optimization, image analysis, complex networks, parallel and distributed computing, statistical pattern recognition, and applications of information theory, probabilistic graphical models and copula theory to optimization and machine learning.
