How do Apprenticeships Work  ?
How do Apprenticeships Work  ? Vocational (on the job) Training Course that leads to a National Vocational Qualification NVQ Level 2 certificate  Mainly for 16-18year olds, but also for 19+ Split into  3 sections: Functional  Technical  Vocational
Functional   Functional is Key Skills: Literacy Numeracy IT Learners undertake a Basic Skills Assessment to see whether they need to do this aspect of the NVQ, whether they have sufficient level to continue with the NVQ 2  They will undergo some training in these areas if necessary.
Technical   Technical Certificate This will normally consist of a written exam that the learner will need to undertake at some point during the course.

PROFESSIONAL COOKERY APPRENTICESHIP Level 2 NVQ  To achieve the full diploma using this flexible route, a learner must attain a minimum of 58 credits. All the mandatory units (13 credits) A minimum of 45 credits from Group A optional units All of these Mandatory Units:-    Credit Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment  3 Work effectively as part of a hospitality team  3 Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food  4 Maintain, handle and clean knives  3 Employment rights and responsibilities (Apprentices only)  2  Section A Optional units Prepare fish for basic dishes  4 Prepare shellfish for basic dishes  3 Prepare meat for basic dishes  4 Prepare poultry for basic dishes  4 Prepare game for basic dishes  4 Prepare offal for basic dishes  3 Prepare vegetables for basic dishes  4 Process dried ingredients prior to cooking  2 Cook and finish basic fish dishes  4 Cook and finish basic shellfish dishes  4 Cook and finish basic meat dishes  5 Cook and finish basic poultry dishes  5 Cook and finish basic offal dishes  5 Cook and finish basic vegetable dishes  4 Cook and finish basic games dishes  5 PROFESSIONAL COOKERY APPRENTICESHIP Level 2 NVQ  To achieve the full diploma using this flexible route,  a learner must attain a minimum of 58 credits. The Training Provider We engage and find a training provider whose role it is to assess the learner in their NVQ. The training provider does all thee assessment of the learner and helps them complete and gain their NVQ qualification. The training provider is paid by the government to do this so the learner and the employer doesn’t have to pay a thing ( in most cases). The training provider often has learners who have done a Foundation  certificate (NVQ Level 1) in a particular subject and wants to get a job or an apprenticeship in order to get their level 2. Where this is the case training providers can also be a source of apprenticeship candidates.

Sources of Apprentices We only really want to work with apprentices who have gone through some pre-employment training already. This is not a hard rule and it depends on the candidate but the young person is going to have to be ready for a full weeks work, getting up early, dealing with other staff, lateness, sickness, absences, and how to manage their in work behaviour. Therefore at the moment we will be taking  apprenticeship candidates referred from : TBG Learning The Bridge JTL Local colleges – Zaynab is liaising
The  A pp* Store need motivated, hardworking staff?  we’ve got an  A pp* for that CANDIDATES APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING  PROVIDERS e.g.  JTL, TBG, The Bridge, Hackney College etc. Candidates go to training providers for Foundation Certificates and Pre- Employment training Candidates can apply to us directly We decide which candidate to put forward for vacancies Client comes to us for staff and apprentices We can source candidates from elsewhere We send apprenticeship vacancies to Training providers .  They send suitable candidates to us for  apprenticeship vacancies ` ` CANDIDATES  TRAINING  PROVIDERS CLIENTS We decide which training providers will deliver the training Training provider does a H&S visit and signs an agreement with client in our presence We liaise with client in order to support the leaner in their job
Why choose an apprentice?  “It makes good business sense” research shows 81% of businesses employing apprentices agree that they bring higher overall productivity. 66% of business believe their apprentices help them to be more competitive in their businesses. employing an apprentice can cost from 11% - 50% of a more experienced worker apprentices have a higher commitment to the overall aims and objectives of the company  and higher retention rates which leads to reduced recruitment costs.

What does it cost? Apprentice is paid between £2.50 to £5.00per hour depending on the job and the client Client pays between £4.00 and £6.50 per hour depending on the job and the candidate. (plus VAT). Includes all admin training, payroll, Employer N.I. contributions support costs and fees.

  • 12. How do Apprenticeships Work ? Vocational (on the job) Training Course that leads to a National Vocational Qualification NVQ Level 2 certificate Mainly for 16-18year olds, but also for 19+ Split into 3 sections: Functional Technical Vocational
  • 13. Functional Functional is Key Skills: Literacy Numeracy IT Learners undertake a Basic Skills Assessment to see whether they need to do this aspect of the NVQ, whether they have sufficient level to continue with the NVQ 2 They will undergo some training in these areas if necessary.

  • 17. The Training Provider We engage and find a training provider whose role it is to assess the learner in their NVQ. The training provider does all thee assessment of the learner and helps them complete and gain their NVQ qualification. The training provider is paid by the government to do this so the learner and the employer doesn’t have to pay a thing ( in most cases). The training provider often has learners who have done a Foundation certificate (NVQ Level 1) in a particular subject and wants to get a job or an apprenticeship in order to get their level 2. Where this is the case training providers can also be a source of apprenticeship candidates.

  • 19. Sources of Apprentices We only really want to work with apprentices who have gone through some pre-employment training already. This is not a hard rule and it depends on the candidate but the young person is going to have to be ready for a full weeks work, getting up early, dealing with other staff, lateness, sickness, absences, and how to manage their in work behaviour. Therefore at the moment we will be taking apprenticeship candidates referred from : TBG Learning The Bridge JTL Local colleges – Zaynab is liaising

The A pp* Store need motivated, hardworking staff? we’ve got an A pp* for that CANDIDATES APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROVIDERS e.g. JTL, TBG, The Bridge, Hackney College etc. Candidates go to training providers for Foundation Certificates and Pre- Employment training Candidates can apply to us directly We decide which candidate to put forward for vacancies Client comes to us for staff and apprentices We can source candidates from elsewhere We send apprenticeship vacancies to Training providers . They send suitable candidates to us for apprenticeship vacancies ` ` CANDIDATES TRAINING PROVIDERS CLIENTS We decide which training providers will deliver the training Training provider does a H&S visit and signs an agreement with client in our presence We liaise with client in order to support the leaner in their job

Why choose an apprentice? “It makes good business sense” research shows 81% of businesses employing apprentices agree that they bring higher overall productivity. 66% of business believe their apprentices help them to be more competitive in their businesses. employing an apprentice can cost from 11% - 50% of a more experienced worker apprentices have a higher commitment to the overall aims and objectives of the company and higher retention rates which leads to reduced recruitment costs.

  • 23. What does it cost? Apprentice is paid between £2.50 to £5.00per hour depending on the job and the client Client pays between £4.00 and £6.50 per hour depending on the job and the candidate. (plus VAT). Includes all admin training, payroll, Employer N.I. contributions support costs and fees.
