59. “I believe that, if done right, public
cloud computing is as or more
secure than self-hosting.”
Steve Randich, EVP & CIO,
Financial Industry Regulatory

“Our AWS VPC is demonstrably
more secure than on-premises.”
Hugh Evans, Architect, Australian
Medical Council
“You should probably start engaging
with the idea that the cloud can be
considerably more secure than the
private cloud or your own data
centre.”
David Rogers, CTO, UKMoJ
“AWS allows us to operate more securely
in the public cloud than we can even in
our own datacenters.”
Rob Alexander, CIO, Capital One

92. Using Cloud for critical Tax Time business systems will completely
change the way we operate and lay the foundations for a digital future
Operating in the cloud “End-To-End”,
from development to production has
challenged the fundamental notions of
how applications are developed and
supported.
Cloud is driving the need to modernise
underlying platforms and remediate
application architectures as we prepare
for the scale of “Digital by Default”
services
The ATO and Amazon Web Services
The ATO is utilising Amazon Web Services platform for critical eCommerce capabilities
including our EVTE (External Vendor Test Environments). Through a secure VPN connection
AWS is servicing the ATO with development and test environments for numerous ICT
projects. The ATO has provisioned over 2,200 AWS servers to date with more than 400
currently active.
