2. WOSM – World Organization of Scouting Movement
• “The World Organization of the Scout Movement
(WOSM) is an independent, worldwide, non-profit
and non-partisan organization which serves the
Scout Movement.”
• “The Mission of (World) Scouting is to contribute to
the education of young people, through a value
system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help
build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as
individuals and play a constructive role in society."

4. WOSM – World Organization of Scouting Movement
• As Scouts and Scouters, we wear the “World Crest”
above the left pocket of our uniforms.
• The rope border and square knot symbolizes unity and
brotherhood. The stars on the fleur de lis stand for
truth and knowledge. Purple and white represent
leadership and purity.
5. THE PIEDMONT COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE
The Piedmont Council International Committee:
• Is the Council liaison to the World Organization of Scouting
through the BSA’s International Division in Irvine, Texas.
• Encourages world friendship within our Council by
promoting contact with foreign Scouting units
• Offers programs that educate our Scouts about WOSM, its
programs, history, and future.
6. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
CAMP STAFF PROGRAMS
International Camp Staff at Camp Bud Schiele
• Each year, the International Committee works with CBS Staff to
identify and request International Scouts, ages 18 to 30, to serve
on Staff at Camp Bud Schiele.
• Half of the World Friendship Fund collections stay in Council and
help to bring International Camp Staff to Camp Bud Schiele.

CAMP STAFF PROGRAMS
European Camp Staff Program
Through the European Camp Staff program, Venture
Scouts and Scouters (18-30) have the opportunity to
learn more about Scouting in Europe by working at a
European Scout Center.
8. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
INTERNATIONAL CONTINGENTS
• Through WOSM, the BSA Scouts are invited to events
in different countries around the world every year.
• BSA Scouts and adults have excellent opportunities to
learn about the world and other cultures by traveling
as part of an international contingent.

PIEDMONT COUNCIL
INTERNATIONAL CONTINGENTS
• Scouts and Scouters interested in participating in an
International Contingent should first complete a BSA Contingent
Nomination Form and submit it to the Piedmont Council
International Representative, John Green.
• Selection is competitive, only top-notch scouts representing
geographic diversity in the US are chosen. The Piedmont Council
has enjoyed remarkable success in securing spots in
International contingents
10. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
JAMBOREE-ON-THE-AIR (JOTA)
JAMBOREE-ON-THE-INTERNET (JOTI)
JOTA and JOTI are held annually on the third weekend of October.
Scouts around the world use amateur radio and the Internet to link
together for fun fellowship. All Scouts may participate—Cub Scouts,
Boy Scouts and Venturers.
11. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
JAMBOREE-ON-THE-AIR (JOTA)
JAMBOREE-ON-THE-INTERNET (JOTI)
• Piedmont Council Scouts can log in and participate in JOTI from
Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, 2015.
• Piedmont Council JOTA Event will be held at the SALT Block in
Hickory, NC on Saturday October, 17 2015 starting at 9:00am.
12. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE

MESSENGERS OF PEACE
• Messengers of Peace is a global initiative designed to inspire
millions of young men and women in more than 220 countries
and territories to work toward peace.
• The initiative is inspired by the World Scout Committee,
administered by the World Scout Bureau, and driven by youth
volunteers worldwide.
13. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
MESSENGERS OF PEACE
Participating is easy. Any Scout or Scouter who participates in a
project that has had a significant impact on the community in any
one of the three dimensions:
1. The personal dimension: harmony, justice and equality
2. The community dimension: peace as opposed to hostility or
violent conflict
3. Relationships between humankind and its environment:
security, social and economic welfare and relationship with
the environment

INTERNATIONAL SPIRIT AWARD
• The International Spirit Award may be earned by registered
Scouts and Scouters that complete requirements, gain a
greater knowledge of International Scouting, and develop a
greater appreciation and awareness of different cultures
and countries.
• Requirements must be completed within 5 years and
submitted to the International Representative.
15. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
The World Friendship Fund
• Started at the end of WWII to help rebuild scouting in
countries devastated by the war.
• Uses donations to help Scouting associations in other
countries with their programs.
• Gives youth members of the BSA an opportunity to
help fellow Scouts who are in need of their support.
16. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
The World Friendship Fund
• Is a meaningful way for Scouts to do a good turn
world-wide.
• Provides Scouts around the world with Scouting
literature, uniforms, summer camp equipment,
computers, and other Scouting-related supplies.
17. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
What You Can Do To Help
• Remember Scouts around the world in need at your Camporees.
• Send your collections for the World Friendship Fund to Pat
Barber at the Council office, or contact John Green.
• Half your donation will stay in Council for International activities.
• The balance will be sent to the BSA International Division in your
District’s name.
18. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
PANGEA MODEL UNITED NATIONS
• The International Committee and Exploring program, along with
the Hickory International Council and Lenoir-Rhyne University
sponsors the annual PANGEA Model United Nations Conference.
• PANGEA Model UN provides a fun way for young people to learn
about the world, practice leadership and public speaking skills,
and discover possible careers.
• The 2016 Pangea Model UN will be held on March 8-9, 2016.
19. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE
PIEDMONT COUNCIL
WORLD JAMBOREE
• World Jamborees are a highlight of membership in WOSM.
Organized by Lord Baden Powell, the first World Jamboree was
held in London, England in 1920.
• This summer, the 23rd World Jamboree was held in Japan.
• The next one is in our backyard, at The Summit in 2019.
