FOLDING
INTRODUCTION
The proteins are macromolecules that execute
almost all the activities of the cells and the
responsibles that all of this occur in the normal way
The protein structure can be primary, secondary,
tertiary or quaternary
The molecular chaperones are a diverse group
of families of proteins that are requires for the
correct folding, transport and degradation of
others proteins in vivo. Are

amino acid
monomers

1. “Natural ‘molecular

Alzheimer’s”
Nature Structural & Molecular Biology
Tuesday, 17 February 2015
They used tests on mice to show that a
human brichos domain can disrupts the
catalytic chain reaction associated with
the aggregation of the
amyloid-β peptide (Aβ42)
The onset of Alzheimer´s could
be delayed with a molecular
chaperone which can inhibits the
chain reaction that damages the
brain.The researchers are
led by Dr. Samuel
Cohen from the
university of
cambridge

“Natural ‘molecular
chaperone’ inhibits
Alzheimer’s”
The mices had been give injections of
amyloid proteins in the brain to mimic
the biology of Alzheimer´s
This reduce the level of
electrical activity called
“gamma waves” in the brain
When these was injected
with Brichos and amyloid
proteins, their gamma wave
activity was normal
The findings prove that Alzheimer's devastating impact on memory
and personality can be interrupte, however would be difficult to
convert the molecula in a drug.
“A good tactic now is to search for other molecules
that have this same highly targeted effect and to see
if these can be used as the starting point for
developing a future therapy,” said Cohen.
“Natural ‘molecular

The molecular chaperones can help to
maintein protein homeostasis by a selectivy
suppressing steps within the complex
reaction pathways responsible for the
toxic effects of protein misfolding and
aggregation.
Is difficult that
Brichos can be
converted into a
drug because it
would be absorbed

PERSONAL OPINION
I think this topic is very interesting and their applications in the
medicine are very extensive , this can be a future solution of a very
big amount of diseases, these notices can gift hope for the people
who suffer these type of disease, which every day affect more
persons.
Is necessary make more researches of molecular chaperones in the
search of find new alternatives for cure many types of diseases.
“The Horrific Dangers Of Protein
Powder Consumption“
The protein shakes and
smoothies are very popular,
these are associated with a
healthy lifestyle
Are accesible for all
the rates of age
In the market can be found many
types and flavors like chocolate,
vainilla and cand be mixed with a big
number options.
Recent studies demonstrate that these protein
shakes can have serious health consequences

“The Horrific Dangers Of Protein
Powder Consumption”
The typical protein
powder contains
20 to 50 grams of
protein per
serving.
Their
consumption can
carry to a
decrease of the
kidney function
and a calcium
loss.
Their

kidney function

loss.
In a study reported in 2013
Was found that a increase
of amount of protein
caused a increase in urine
calcium loss
The researchers use
diferents
concentrations of
protein (47, 95 and
142 grams per day).
“The Horrific Dangers Of Protein
Powder Consumption”
Are the body´s filtration system
A excess of protein
increases the kidneys
workload.
Big concentrations
Large period time
Can increase the acid load on
the kidneys and increase the
risk of kidney stone
formation
“The Horrific Dangers Of
Protein Powder Consumption”
Many of protein shakes
contein heavy metals
Was teste a muscle milk
chocolate powder and this
have four heavy metals
Lead levels
of 13.5µg
exceed the
USP limite of
10µg per day
Cadmium
leves was
5.6µg and the
USP limit is
5µg per day.
Arsenic and
mercury
levels are
into USP
limits
The body only
can break down
5 to 9 grams of
protein per hour,
the excess is
converted to fat
or excreted

“So it’s a ridiculous waste to be
recommending so much more
than you really need.”

PERSONAL OPINION
I think it´s very important know the risk of consumption of these type of
products that is consumed in a big amount in the world.
This product is selling with the idea that are healthy, but a little part of
population know the real health consequences of their consume, this
products lead a big deterioration in the kidneys and these organs are
very important for the life and for a good quality of this.
I think is necessary make more studies of this topic and show this to all
the people, for make a responsibility consumption of this products.
MEDICAL UTILITY OF
PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR
CHAPERONES
Molecular chaperones are
involved in the pathogenesis
of a extensive number of
pathologies, like Parkinson,
alzheimer and Huntington
so these proteins could be
an important
pharmacological target
MEDICAL UTILITY OF
PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR
CHAPERONES
Proteins in our body are used
for diagnosis of diseases,
these can be measured in
serum as CRP for mesure the
risk of a CV event or in urine
like the albumin, according to
their levels may indicate a
specific pathology or a type of
pathologies
MEDICAL UTILITY OF
PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR
CHAPERONES
Knowing the structure of
protein hormones can lead
to modification of their
amino acid sequences to
improve their
pharmacological effects, as
in the case of biosynthetic
insulin
MEDICAL UTILITY OF
PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR
CHAPERONES
Currently are developing a lot of technological
advancements in relation with proteins, such is
the case of antifreeze proteins that can be used
to preserve organs and tissues for
transplantation

  • 12. “The Horrific Dangers Of Protein Powder Consumption” Are the body´s filtration system A excess of protein increases the kidneys workload. Big concentrations Large period time Can increase the acid load on the kidneys and increase the risk of kidney stone formation
  • 13. “The Horrific Dangers Of Protein Powder Consumption” Many of protein shakes contein heavy metals Was teste a muscle milk chocolate powder and this have four heavy metals Lead levels of 13.5µg exceed the USP limite of 10µg per day Cadmium leves was 5.6µg and the USP limit is 5µg per day. Arsenic and mercury levels are into USP limits The body only can break down 5 to 9 grams of protein per hour, the excess is converted to fat or excreted The body only can break down 5 to 9 grams of protein per hour, the excess is converted to fat or excreted “So it’s a ridiculous waste to be recommending so much more than you really need.” Kathleen Laquale
  • 14. PERSONAL OPINION I think it´s very important know the risk of consumption of these type of products that is consumed in a big amount in the world. This product is selling with the idea that are healthy, but a little part of population know the real health consequences of their consume, this products lead a big deterioration in the kidneys and these organs are very important for the life and for a good quality of this. I think is necessary make more studies of this topic and show this to all the people, for make a responsibility consumption of this products.
  • 15. MEDICAL UTILITY OF PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR CHAPERONES Molecular chaperones are involved in the pathogenesis of a extensive number of pathologies, like Parkinson, alzheimer and Huntington so these proteins could be an important pharmacological target
  • 16. MEDICAL UTILITY OF PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR CHAPERONES Proteins in our body are used for diagnosis of diseases, these can be measured in serum as CRP for mesure the risk of a CV event or in urine like the albumin, according to their levels may indicate a specific pathology or a type of pathologies
  • 17. MEDICAL UTILITY OF PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR CHAPERONES Knowing the structure of protein hormones can lead to modification of their amino acid sequences to improve their pharmacological effects, as in the case of biosynthetic insulin
  • 18. MEDICAL UTILITY OF PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR CHAPERONES Currently are developing a lot of technological advancements in relation with proteins, such is the case of antifreeze proteins that can be used to preserve organs and tissues for transplantation
