2. OBJECTIVES
• To describe the morphology of the parasite
• To highlight various aspects of life cycle of Ascaris
3. MORPHOLOGY• Cylindrical in shape (fusiform)
• Largest intestinal nematode
• Pinkish or creamy white in colour
• Body wall covered by cuticle
• Round and tapers at both ends
• 3 toothed lips(1 dorsal and 2 ventral)
• Internal organs floats in irritating fluid k/a ascaron or ascarase
(Allergic manifestation)
4. • Male: 15-20 cm
• Male has a end ventrally curved in
the form of a hook with conical tip
• The genital pore and ejaculatory
duct open into the cloaca
• Two copulatory spicules protudes
from the cloaca
5. • Female: 20-40 cm
• Posterior end neither
pointed nor curved
• Vulva opens at
midventral vulvar waist
• 0.2 million eggs
per day
