3. History
• In June, 1990 original Homeward Family Shelter a previous resident
named Julliette. After she left the shelter, her previous ex-
partner/abuser found her and murdered her. Since, the incident
Homeward Family Shelter had changed it’s name memory of
Julliette.
6. Services/Programs
• Food banks.
• A home for them.
• 3 child care programs nearby.
• Register children in nearby public schools/ along helping mothers
who wanted or need to go back to school.
• Counseling
• Lifestyle programs;(welfare, legal aid)
• Provided workshops/programs for cover letters and resumes.
• Programs offered every Tuesday & Thursday:
Women’s Program
(nutrition, mediation, how to build credit through YWCA/YMCA)
• Summer trips for families (Wonderland, Toronto’s Zoo, water
parks etc.) Also, having 2 placement students to assist.

Follow Up
• They would keep in touch to residents about 6 months, but after
they moved out there is not limit.
• Once a month there’s services and classes for previous residents
that attend to help keep in touch.

• Their curfew:
Monday – Thursdays (Saturday & Sunday) 11:30pm
Fridays 12am
11. Procedure To Apply
• Residents would call Central Family Intake. From there they will
suggest a shelter by the call centre ( not from their original
neighborhood)
13. Rooms
• 12 bedrooms; 2 beds, 2 dressers
• No waiting list.
• Unavailable rooms, families suggested to call Central Family Intake
and find an appropriate shelter to accommodate them.

History(
Back in June, 1990 Homeward Family Shelter
had opened its doors. It wasthe first known
shelter of it’skind in Toronto. It is currently
the largest short term shelter for abused
women in Toronto. In 1996, duringMother’s
Day weekend, a previousresident had been
found murdered and abused by her ex-
partner . After that incident, Homeward
Family Shelter had changed it’s name in
memory of Julliette.
