MASTER’S DEGREE
FINAL DISSERTATION
Exploring a queer understanding of
difference in education
Student: Annette Feldmann
Supervisor: Andrea Francisco Amat
Castellón, October 2014
7
Keywords:
Postmodernism, Sex, Gender, Sexuality, Queer Theory, Education, Queer Pedagogy, Culture for
Peace
Summary:
In a society where norms about how people are supposed to feel, act and think are embedded in
every element of live some are excluded for being different. Sex, Sexuality and Gender are the
supposedly most natural categories that demand complete conformance along a binary model or
else violence is the response. This holds true especially for young people in contexts of schools.
If education could be understood from a queer perspective states that the cultivation of peace is
possible for everyone and apparently normal categories are actually constructed and diverse, the
human experience suddenly appears to be a continuum of positive possibilities.
