Thomas Leonard
Founded, in 1994, the International Coach Federation, a large
association of professional coaches with over 130 chapters
worldwide.

9. What is Assessment?
The word “Assess” comes from Latin term ‘assidere’
means ‘sit beside’
• Assessments can be used to identify the goals and
abilities of the client
• To plan the strategies to achieve the identified goals
• To monitor and revise the goals from time to time

• 3. Introduce yourself
• 4. Clarify what coaching is
• 5. Find out coachee’s needs
• 6. Build a relationship based on mutual trust
• 7. Explain structure and content of individual sessions and of
coaching process

• 9. Wrap up: evaluation of the session

• SMART Goals
• Specific , Measurable , attainable, realistic and time
bound
• Short term : below 2 years
• Long term : 2 to 5 years
• The clients should be encouraged to record the goals
and paste them at home and workplace.

Goal directed assessment process
• 1.Gather Back ground Information (personal ,
educational &vocational )
• 2.Identify possible short term and Long term goals
(important)
• 3.Assess the requirements(skills & knowledge) of the
clients’ goals
• 4. Assess the clients’ achievements(abilities)
• 5.identify the skill gaps and plan a training program
• (intervention if required)
