Overcome the DSLR 30min
Recording Limit
Recording externally to the camera
means that the traditional 29m59s
barrier imposed by many DSLR
cameras does not apply.
More accurate 4:2:2 color
While every pixel’s luminance
information is captured, color is
sampled for smaller file sizes. With the
4:2:2 standard, Atomos have higher
color sampling than conventional 4:2:0
for more accurate colors with increased
color resolution.
Avoid lossy, MPEG camera
compression
To limit file size some camera’s only
capture frame to frame changes rather
than every frame. All Atomos recorders
capture full “I” frame information just
like film, making manipulation in post
production easier and higher quality.
High resolution & High
bit rate
Recording resolution alone isn’t
enough. Even 4K might be rejected in
Post if the bit rate is too low. Internal
camera 4K is typically recorded up
to 100Mb/s, whereas with ProRes &
DNxHR you can record up to 880Mb/s,
maintaining the best possible quality.
Higher Resolution
10-bit Color
Recording to 8-bit only allows for a
maximum of 256 gradations in chroma
and luminance per channel of RGB. All
Atomos monitor-recorders record to 10-
bit (1024 gradations) for smoother color
transitions.
Record longer & Reduce
media costs
Cameras use low capacity, high price/
GB media. Atomos uses high volume,
high capacity computer SSD’s & HDD’s
from the world’s most trusted media
brands, allowing easy access anytime,
anywhere in the world.
With a single connection, video professionals add recording
direct from the camera sensor to Hollywood-ready formats
like Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHR onto affordable & high
capacity HDD/SSD media.
Along side professional recording, the calibrated touchscreen
is an audio and video monitor with an array of shot setup
scopes and a playback device with on-board controls for
instant shot review, tagging and playout to larger monitors,
making it a swiss army knife for Production, Post-production
& Digital signage.
Professional Recording, Playback, Monitoring & Editing
that will unleash the hidden potential of your camera from
DSLR to Cinema.
RECORDING WHAT WE DO
Every camera records, however the internal recording often isn’t
suitable in professional applications. Atomos overcome many of
the limitations professionals face with their camera.
Atomos partner with brands like Apple & AVID to create
professional touchscreens for leading camera brands
such as Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Arri, JVC & Red.

MONITORING
AtomOS is our custom-built operating system designed specifically for filmmakers to keep the
Atomos feature set a single touch away. Its incredibly fast, intuitive and evolving with regular
free updates for new features.
AtomHDR is a proprietary image processing technology, delivering the high brightness range
of Post Production HDR in a field monitor. All you need is the Log output from your camera
(Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Arri, JVC, Red) and to activate AtomHDR on the Inferno, Flame,
Blade or Studio series to reveal the HDR magic. The Inferno & Flames also have 1500nit
brightness panel and 10-bit color processing for HDR with a wider brightness range and
smoother color transitions.

Clarity, Detail, Brightness
When we began to setup the Shogun Flame, we powered up
our video link and instantly we all were taken back from the
image we were seeing. The image was so bright and clear;
it was hard to believe it was real at first. It’s super impressive,
I don’t think there is any monitor that displays such clarity,
detail and brightness all in one, let alone function as a 4K
recorder. Its a combination of the AtomHDR mode and the
1500 nit screen that work together to give you that awesome
display.
SDI and HDMI Flexibility
We shot the Tesla from a leading van on the track, which had
a Shogun Flame tethered to the RED Dragon via HD SDI.
From inside the vehicle we dialed up HDR mode the beauty
of this is that the finer detail in the image becomes more
apparent. Our DP for this shoot Matt Wood was in awe! There is
something about seeing a DP of Matt’s level getting excited like
a little kid – it tends to rub off on the rest of the crew.
Long Battery Life
Both Ninja Flame and Shogun Flame have dual battery plates
so you can hot swap batteries whilst in use. We used the dual
Sony L series batteries which lasted well over the entire 4-hour
race track sequence even when recording the whole time. This
brings me back to my experience with the Ninja Blade with
continuous power which I still use with my C100mkII.
The New Monitoring Standard
In conclusion, for this Tesla shoot both the Shogun and
Ninja Flames performed beyond our expectation. It can run
all day without a hiccup and the monitoring in AtomHDR
mode needs to be seen to be believed – It’s going to be very
difficult to use any other screen besides the Flame now. I am
confident that AtomHDR will be the new monitoring standard
among productions of all scales, and I can not wait to get it
on set again for my clients to take advantage of this new and
innovative technology.

Client Demanded ProRes Delivery
The client requested that the production was to be captured
in 4K for archiving and a future 4K delivery. The specific
requirement was 4K ProRes HQ, making the footage 10bit,
low compressed and edit ready for Final Cut Pro. We set
out to achieve the best possible image capture which
required technologies that we would not usually use for a
multi-cam recording.
Best of the Best in Multi-cam
The camera of choice was the Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta,
20 of them to be exact. The large sensor, low light and 4K
capabilities made this camera a no brainer. We also had two
Phantom Flex 4K cameras and a few Arri Alexa’s for additional
stylized shots. These cameras were paired with Fujinon and
Canon cinema zoom lenses. To add to the list of toys we had
4x techno cranes, a Helicopter with a Cineflex stabilizer and 6x
remotely operated hot heads, that, coupled with some of the
best camera operators Australia has to offer.
Challenge; 4K Data Wrangling
With all of these camera rigs equipped to capture amazing
pictures, the next challenge was to get them feeding back to
the OB compound. We ran fiber from each camera back to the
OB into the Sony Baseband processors and then distributed
the 4K signal into the final link of the chain, the Atomos Shogun
Studio. In fact we used a combination of Shogun and Shogun
studios just in case we decided to get some units mobilized.
Easy to use Rack-based Monitoring
 Recording
This rack set up was the most impressive in the production,
it seemed to be a favorite for the producers and the client.
Having such a vivid image displayed on these monitors with
all of the tools just a touch away was instrumental in our
success. The fact that this rack was our 4k Record seemed
to be just a bonus.
Making the Complex, Simple
The Shogun Studio integrated perfectly to our ecosystem,
locking signal and timecode flawlessly. The simplicity of the
Atomos system in such a complex environment makes it a
breath of fresh air once that record button is tapped.
The Shogun studio proved to be the perfect solution for
recording 4k Multi-cam large scale events. We can now take on
any 4K event knowing that we can confidently capture pristine
footage that is immediately edit-ready.

  • 3. 4 5Atomos © 2016 Atomos Global | atomos.com Overcome the DSLR 30min Recording Limit Recording externally to the camera means that the traditional 29m59s barrier imposed by many DSLR cameras does not apply. More accurate 4:2:2 color While every pixel’s luminance information is captured, color is sampled for smaller file sizes. With the 4:2:2 standard, Atomos have higher color sampling than conventional 4:2:0 for more accurate colors with increased color resolution. Avoid lossy, MPEG camera compression To limit file size some camera’s only capture frame to frame changes rather than every frame. All Atomos recorders capture full “I” frame information just like film, making manipulation in post production easier and higher quality. High resolution & High bit rate Recording resolution alone isn’t enough. Even 4K might be rejected in Post if the bit rate is too low. Internal camera 4K is typically recorded up to 100Mb/s, whereas with ProRes & DNxHR you can record up to 880Mb/s, maintaining the best possible quality. Higher Resolution 10-bit Color Recording to 8-bit only allows for a maximum of 256 gradations in chroma and luminance per channel of RGB. All Atomos monitor-recorders record to 10- bit (1024 gradations) for smoother color transitions. Record longer & Reduce media costs Cameras use low capacity, high price/ GB media. Atomos uses high volume, high capacity computer SSD’s & HDD’s from the world’s most trusted media brands, allowing easy access anytime, anywhere in the world. With a single connection, video professionals add recording direct from the camera sensor to Hollywood-ready formats like Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHR onto affordable & high capacity HDD/SSD media. Along side professional recording, the calibrated touchscreen is an audio and video monitor with an array of shot setup scopes and a playback device with on-board controls for instant shot review, tagging and playout to larger monitors, making it a swiss army knife for Production, Post-production & Digital signage. Professional Recording, Playback, Monitoring & Editing that will unleash the hidden potential of your camera from DSLR to Cinema. RECORDING WHAT WE DO Every camera records, however the internal recording often isn’t suitable in professional applications. Atomos overcome many of the limitations professionals face with their camera. Atomos partner with brands like Apple & AVID to create professional touchscreens for leading camera brands such as Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Arri, JVC & Red. The image was so bright and clear; it was hard to believe it was real at first. It’s super impressive, I don’t think there is any monitor that displays such clarity, detail and brightness all in one, let alone function as a 4K recorder. Its a combination of the AtomHDR mode and the 1500 nit screen that work together to give you that awesome display. SDI and HDMI Flexibility We shot the Tesla from a leading van on the track, which had a Shogun Flame tethered to the RED Dragon via HD SDI. From inside the vehicle we dialed up HDR mode the beauty of this is that the finer detail in the image becomes more apparent. Our DP for this shoot Matt Wood was in awe! There is something about seeing a DP of Matt’s level getting excited like a little kid – it tends to rub off on the rest of the crew. Long Battery Life Both Ninja Flame and Shogun Flame have dual battery plates so you can hot swap batteries whilst in use. We used the dual Sony L series batteries which lasted well over the entire 4-hour race track sequence even when recording the whole time. This brings me back to my experience with the Ninja Blade with continuous power which I still use with my C100mkII. The New Monitoring Standard In conclusion, for this Tesla shoot both the Shogun and Ninja Flames performed beyond our expectation. It can run all day without a hiccup and the monitoring in AtomHDR mode needs to be seen to be believed – It’s going to be very difficult to use any other screen besides the Flame now. I am confident that AtomHDR will be the new monitoring standard among productions of all scales, and I can not wait to get it on set again for my clients to take advantage of this new and innovative technology. “AtomHDR mode needs to be seen to be believed – It’s going to be very difficult to use any other screen besides the Flame now” Cloakroom Media FIELD MONITOR RECORDERS SHOGUN INFERNO SHOGUN FLAME NINJA FLAME SAMURAI BLADE NINJA BLADE NINJA 2 NINJA STAR CASE STUDY: TESLA Cloakroom Media Flying Dragon Aerial teamed up on a TVC production for Tesla Motors Australia. • 13. 24 25Atomos © 2016 Atomos Global | atomos.com Client Demanded ProRes Delivery The client requested that the production was to be captured in 4K for archiving and a future 4K delivery. The specific requirement was 4K ProRes HQ, making the footage 10bit, low compressed and edit ready for Final Cut Pro. We set out to achieve the best possible image capture which required technologies that we would not usually use for a multi-cam recording. Best of the Best in Multi-cam The camera of choice was the Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta, 20 of them to be exact. The large sensor, low light and 4K capabilities made this camera a no brainer. We also had two Phantom Flex 4K cameras and a few Arri Alexa’s for additional stylized shots. These cameras were paired with Fujinon and Canon cinema zoom lenses. To add to the list of toys we had 4x techno cranes, a Helicopter with a Cineflex stabilizer and 6x remotely operated hot heads, that, coupled with some of the best camera operators Australia has to offer. Challenge; 4K Data Wrangling With all of these camera rigs equipped to capture amazing pictures, the next challenge was to get them feeding back to the OB compound. We ran fiber from each camera back to the OB into the Sony Baseband processors and then distributed the 4K signal into the final link of the chain, the Atomos Shogun Studio. In fact we used a combination of Shogun and Shogun studios just in case we decided to get some units mobilized. Easy to use Rack-based Monitoring Recording This rack set up was the most impressive in the production, it seemed to be a favorite for the producers and the client. Having such a vivid image displayed on these monitors with all of the tools just a touch away was instrumental in our success. The fact that this rack was our 4k Record seemed to be just a bonus. Making the Complex, Simple The Shogun Studio integrated perfectly to our ecosystem, locking signal and timecode flawlessly. The simplicity of the Atomos system in such a complex environment makes it a breath of fresh air once that record button is tapped. The Shogun studio proved to be the perfect solution for recording 4k Multi-cam large scale events.
