TECH CORPS is a national nonprofit that develops technology programs and deploys volunteers to provide K-12 students equal access to technology resources and skills. Their TECHie Club program uses volunteers to teach 3rd-5th graders computing topics through hands-on lessons. Volunteers are needed to lead TECHie Clubs that meet weekly at two Cincinnati schools from October to May. The time commitment is about once a month for a team of six volunteers who split responsibilities. Interested volunteers should contact the organization.

2. Volunteer Opportunities
TECHIE Club Volunteer Opportunity:
TECHie Club is a new program developed by TECH CORPS and includes over 40 hours of hands-on, interactive
lessons for 3rd – 5th grade students. The goal of TECHie Club is to expose students to different technology
concepts, to incite interest and encourage exploration. This year, more than 15 TECHie Clubs will be
implemented in Central and Southwest Ohio.
Volunteer Description: TECHie Clubs are comprised of up to 20 students and meet weekly for 60-90
minutes during the school year. Schools designate a Site Coordinator to manage students and assist
volunteers. TECH CORPS staff trains and supports teams of tech-savvy volunteers to use the TECHie Club
Implementation Guide and Lessons to introduce students to computing topics. Depending on the size of
the school’s volunteer team, volunteers will visit the school weekly, bi-weekly or for just a few sessions.
Volunteer Requirements: As a volunteer you will be trained to use the TECHie Club lessons to introduce
students to computing topics, including: basic programming, basic web development, robotics, hardware
identification, software applications, internet, and social networks. Volunteers must have technical
expertise, the patience and desire to work with elementary school children (3rd – 5th graders) and commit
to volunteering for the entire program (October – May).

3. TECHie Club Volunteer Time Commitment
TECHie Clubs work best when they have a team of at least six (6) dedicated volunteers. This allows the
students to interact and learn from a diverse group of individuals and it also decreases the amount of time
a volunteer has to commit to the program. Below are examples which outline the approximate time
commitment for TECHie Club programs.
Full Year Programs:
- Program meetings run from October – May
- On average, Clubs will meet for a total of 26 sessions
