SEASON REVIEW 2011

Welcome

          Beach Soccer beats new landmarks,
          welcomes new territories and designs
          new realities

It is a great pleasure for me to greet you all again at the
end of a new year in Beach Soccer. And it is mainly so
because the new season has proven that we are on the
right track to see the sport grow and grow. Too many
things have happened during this last 12 months not to
consider this 2011 as a key year for the sport
development, a stage which, thanks to great efforts and
a lot of passion, have brought significant steps forward
which will set a referential point in our history.

This 2011 will be remember for good as a year in which
the dream of seeing the Clubs competition came true.
The I Mundialito de Clubes, held in Sao Paulo in March,
opened the door to a whole new life for the sport. And, as
anticipated, the clubs competition is here to stay, with
this desire firmly backed by an amusing success both in
terms of media interest and competition standards.

Another of the wonderful news about this last season
was the opening of new venues, which added even more
glamour and brightness to the World-scale circuit. Miami
and Lagos joined the BSWW Tour, delivering, together
with Samsung Intercontinental Cup Dubai, three great
competitions that will for sure stay in the Beach Soccer
calendar for a long time, confirming at the same time
that Beach Soccer is a worldwide citizen.

Together with the turning point set by Russia’s winning
the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and ending Brazil’s
dominion, it is an irrefutable fact that the
competitiveness and entity of all the squads has also
experienced a remarkable growth, and this is also a great
symptom of the sport’s excellent health.

After all these facts, and the incorporation of the
women’s beach soccer we are working hard on, the route
is set for the new golden objective, one we feel to be in
the right path to: the Olympics. It is an ambitious goal,
and there’s a lot to fight for, yet, but the prize is more
          than worth it...

Beach Soccer, then, is stronger than ever, and we just
wanted to say one thing for that: Thank you for being a
key part of it. Thank you for making it happen.

TV coverage

The love story between Beach Soccer and TV keeps as strong as ever, and the
sport got further confirmed this season as a perfect Small Screen product.
Figures set this even clearer, with a very successful 2012 season in which
many broadcasters jumped aboard and joined the party of a fast-growing sport.

The usual Giant platforms, such as Eurosport, FOX, Al Jazeera, Super Sport,
Rede Globo and so strengthened their relationship with Beach Soccer, and
important newcomers joined the spectrum to shape a great Worldwide
coverage map. Through the new agreements this year, more supporters, in
more countries than before, could enjoy the thrilling action of the sport.

During the whole season, the games broadcasts reached more than 540
million households, getting the action to the screens of more than 180
countries worldwide.

This was accomplished thanks to the involvement of up to 24 major
broadcasters, whose coverage area left almost no territories uncovered.

These figures were even significantly increased when dealing with news
videos. In an event such as the BSWW Miami Cup, for instance, Associated
Press and Sports News Television took the images of the games to up to 1000
million households globally.

For the first time also this year, every single event was produced in High
Definition, hence securing all details to travel through the waves and let the
sports followers every single movement happening on the sand.

Euro Beach Soccer League (EBSL) 2011 format

The Euro Beach Soccer League brings the top national teams from the entire continent to
compete head to head in a thrilling summer-long league format. Originally started back in
1998, this exciting continental competition has been constantly gaining reputation and
catching the attention of more and more countries.

The competition travels from place to place with the league setting up camp for a weekend
at a time, attracting large crowds of spectators and giving each event a unique feel for the
television audience. BSWW are always looking to improve, and confirming this fact, the
Beach Soccer entity created the following format to try and standardize its most prestigious
competition.

The EBSL 2011 featured again four preliminary events in four different stages around the
old continent, being the one in Bern the opening leg of this year’s season. Next stops for
the ESLB locomotive this season were Berlin (July 8th-10th), Ravenna (July 15th-17th) and
The Hague (July 29th-31st). The best teams during these stages headed for the final battle in
Moscow (August 4th-7th), where the EBSL Superfinal raised Russia as the best team in
Europe, just weeks before Likhachev’s team made history by snatching Brazil the World
Cup.

As usual, the EBSL 2011 was divided into two separate divisions, Division A and Division B.
Division A consists of the 8 top teams in Europe based on the BSWW European Ranking.
Division B consists of the lower ranked teams and new entries to the competition. Each
division has its own regulations and competition format.

In each EBSL venue there were four teams competing in the Division A pool and three in the
Division B pool, facing each other in a round-robin format. Each team competed in two
preliminary events to see their points obtained accumulated into an overall ranking that
determined the teams qualified for the Superfinal in Moscow (August 4th-7th).

The same system worked for Division B contenders. The four EBSL stage winners plus the
runner-up with better figures in the season got into the Promotion Final, in which they
battled together with the lowest ranked team in Division A to gain a slot in the top-flight
division for the following season, being France the ones to do so, avenging last year’s
exchanged roles with Turkey.

Spain and Israel, first winners!
Italy snatches second place in the EBSL Bern 2011 after
bending Switzerland in the last game

La Roja did not slow down their march after mathematically winning yesterday
the Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011 stage, and got rid today of a
cheeky Turkey that, although being their first stage in Division A, left a great
impression. Spaniards clinch this way their ninth points in Switzerland and
have their foot at the door of the EBSL Super Final.

One of the new sensations of Joaquin’s squad, Nelson, got the opener for his
side, during the first period, and it was not until mid second leg that one of the
Turkish target men, Ayhan, leveled things. But the Ottoman joy was ephemeral,
since in the next minute, another newcomer, Aceitón, would rocket a ball in for
the 2-1. In the following minutes, the Spaniards increased their advantage, and
Juanma and Beiro made it 4-1, only to see Erhan cutting it a bit with his fourth
goal in the tournament.

The 4-2 was stuck on the scoreboard for most of the last period, until Ayhan,
with his second hit today, made the afternoon uneasy for La Roja. At least, the
four minutes yet to be played. But experience was Spain’s best weapons in that
last seconds, and Turkey could not find any crack to Xan’s nets, and the victory
fell on the Spanish side.

Italy’s efficacy is superior to the Swiss

Switzerland could not keep the second place in this first Euro Beach Soccer
League 2011 stage of Bern. The hosts found it impossible to recover after a
solid beginning by the Azzurri, and ended hopeless in front of the Italian
expertise. When the transalpine are ahead, it is difficult to bring them down.
The Swiss knew it very well today.

Italy were better during the first stages of the game, and enjoyed several
dangerous chances to step ahead. Finally, Soria would sweep the Azzurri in
front with a bright finishing, and Leghissa would dive to head a ball in after a
great strategy movement just seconds afterwards. Things began turning too
uphill for hosts Switzerland, and although Schirinzi cut the distance in the first
minute of the second half, the 2-1 would remain until the next break.

Only twelve minutes left for Switzerland to try the final attack for the game, but
it did not work. Instead, Italy took an excellent advantage of the Swiss needs,
and two new goals by Soria finished all local chances, as well as gave the
Italian number 9 the

Israel win the Division B stage in the EBSL Bern 2011

Israel will be in Moscow next August, fighting for the ticket to Division A. Lam’s
surprising side ran over favourites Ukraine and thanks to a 5-2 victory became
the Division B champions of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011, what
automatically guarantees them a place in the EBSL Promotion Final.

The Israeli, although facing the current champions of the European Qualifier
for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, were confident in their possibilities, and
that confidence was finally rewarded. They knew that they needed to be
extremely competitive today, and they were, conceding their opponents few
chances, and forcing them to do their best in every ball, in every clash, in every
run. A rushing beginning was worth one goal for Israel, but that was not enough
to get in control of the game, since Ukraine knew how to shift things on their
favour and Riabchuk and Andreiev made it 1-2 rather quickly. But Amar was
even quicker to strike back for the 2-2 which closed the first period.

That first horn somehow signaled the end of the road for Ukraine, too. As from
the second period on, Israel commanded the game, stepping ahead for the
second time, thanks to Yatim, never letting their opponents recover. Instead,
they leant on a precise counterattack to progressively widen the distance with
an amazing goal by captain Iloz, and the fifth by Yatim, which finally secured
the first place, and the ticket to the Promotion Final, for Lam’s side.

the life of a city, and this is why we always look for representative places to

EBSL Berlin 2011 Cup goes to Russia!
... and Czech Republic snatches the Promotion Final berth
after edgeing hosts Germany in the last game of the
tournament
The Euro Beach Soccer League – Berlin 2011 stage cup flew to Russian hands,
after a breath-taking final which offered the best of Beach Soccer: ten amazing
goals, a great atmosphere, and two of the best teams in the world battling for a
cup which only had a rather clear owner at the end of the match.

Fielding an amusing fitness, Russia began putting into siege Graça’s goal, with
two shots in the first seconds of the game top ut the Portuguese goalie into
serious difficulties. After those overwhelming first minutes, Portugal regained
their breath and looked to Bukhlitskiy’s end. Madjer could have opened the
score when being conceded a penalty kick, but the excellent Russian
goalkeeper guessed his aim and prevented the captain to sweep ahead the
current champions. Just a couple of minutes afterwards, instead,
Krasheninnikov managed the opener for his side to get to first break ahead on
the score.

This is exactly the scenario no team wants to be thrown at: if Russia gets
ahead, it gets really difficult to block their march to the triumph. But if there’s a
team capable of doing so, this is magic-packed Portugal, with players capable
of doing real harm at any moment. It is not only Madjer or Belchior, but any
other. Coimbra was this time the one to voice that the Lusitanians are an all-
round team full of resources, and thanks to a wide-range attempt managed the

equalizer in front of the 2000 people witnessing one of the best possible
battles in this sport. And that was not the end of the work done by the
unsuspected hero numbered 2, as some minutes afterwards he himself drove
a strong race to reach the ball and sent it out of Bukhlitskiy’s reach for the turn-
around completion.

Portugal was in the right vibe, and Ze Miguel’s lads willed not to leave the
chance to get a higher advantage. When the last minute of that second leg was
inching to the horn, the red side built a brilliant collective move, back-heel pass
by Madjer included, for Bruno Novo to finish and raise the 3-1. Russia got then
back on duty with the beginning of the third period, with Eremeev cutting the
distance. But current title-holders were feeling strong, and Madjer restored the
2-goal gap.

But in that frenetic first minutes of the last period, the Russians confirmed they
were not to give up regardless the distance to climb. Shishin was the man to
carry that flag. Russia’s 6 not only balanced the score in just 90 seconds, but
with two new goals got the cup to Russian hands.

Romania secures top-flight points
Romania left Turkey with no chance of points in their Division A debut, securing
at the same time they will be a Division A team next season, as the Ottoman
will not be able to equalize the three points already at Romanian hands. It
cannot be said that it is a fair ending for Turkey, as they have shown really good
thing in thei matches this season. But the highest-level beach soccer is fiercely
competitive, and you need to be really tough to edge the great teams involved
in the competition.

Turkey determinedly sought their opponent’s goal in the first minutes,
acknowledging that this match against Romania was the last chance to skip
having to fight for their top-flight berth in next month’s Promotion Final in
Moscow (August, 4th-7th). They targeted it, and were quite successful in their
quest, as Ayhan achieved the opener for the Ottoman with just one minute
gone. Only the posts prevented Turkey for a wider advantage in an inspired first
period for Adil’s lads.

Romania reacted after the break, indeed, in the very first move, when Croi
leveled things with the 1-1. Turkey did not want to let their chance go, and
Tamer immediately replied to recover the advantage for his side. The
Carpathians had stepped back onto the game, and they had done it for good.
Boata and Maci turned the score around and kept with the stroke exchange
which led to the 5-4 by the Romanian target man, one of the best players in
Europe. Although Turkey kept trying, the Romanian defense sent all balls out to
snatch their first three points in the season, with which they assure they will not
face relegation this season. Now is the moment to look for higher things for
Maci, the Postes, and co.

Czech Republic snatches the Promotion Final berth
Germany saw the Cup fly to Czech Republic in the last match of the Euro Beach
Soccer League stage they were hosting. After being surprised in the first period,
the Mannschaft found it difficult to cope with the game, as they never managed
to get ahead, and remained unable to retain the trophy within its frontiers.

Things began in a hard way for the hosts. Although they had got in control of
the game, and were attempting to open the score to give their crowd a
deserved joy, they were faced to the Czechs first goal. Dannilo rocketed a ball
in for the equalizer, giving the game a new beginning for Germany. But in that
new beginning, the Czechs were even tougher, as they got 1-3 ahead in the first
minutes of the second period.

Ulle cut that distance a bit, but Mizar poured a last bucket of cold water over
the German heads when, right from the corner, sent the ball in, catching Klon
and his defenders by surprise, and raising the 4-2 on the score. With 4 minutes
to go, the hosts kept trying to launch the comeback, but all their attempts were
fruitless. Instead, Czech Republic finished the game, with Lukic and Kovarik
making it 2-6 to seize the Division B first position. The Czechs, then, enjoyed
the chance to fight in the Promotion Final for a place in Division A next season.

Swiss frenzy in Ravenna
Alpines beat Italy to end as winners of this third EBSL stage
and secure their place in Moscow. France will be there, too
Switzerland raised the Cup of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Ravenna 2011,
after bending hosts Italy in a hard fought last game, tightly unbalanced thanks
to the goals by Rodrigues and Leu. With the points achieved so far, the Alpines
find themselves mathematically in the Super Final, whereas Italy, with nine
points is almost virtually in Moscow, too.

Although the Italians needed a wide victory to have the chance to keep the Cup
at home due to their heavy defeat yesterday, the Azzurri were set to go for it.
Switzerland, in turn, though in taking the opportunity of already securing their
place to fight for the European throne, without needing to fear any miracle by
Poland in the last stage in The Hague. Both teams felt the highest of respects
towards their opponent and preferred not to get too uncovered during the first
stages.

It was not until the 8th minute of the second leg that Rodrigues invented an
unforgettable overhead kick to blast the ball at the back of the Italian nets. The
best goalkeeper of the tournament, Italian Simone Del Mestre, could do
nothing to prevent the ball in as the missile by Swiss number 5 was
unstoppable. The match changed at that moment. Being already down in the
score, hosts could do nothing but going into attack and try to change the
course of things. They put Valentin’s goal under their crosshair, but nothing
worked for them. Instead, Leu found the way to Del Mestre’s nets with a
powerful free kick to make it 0-2.

There were just 4 minutes left, and the Alpine side would not take any risk.
They made a couple of steps backwards and closed lines tight wight Valentin,
leaving Italy no chance to react and seizing the Cup.

Goals: 0-1: Rodrigues, min. 2 (2); 0-2: Leu, min. 4 (3)

Unbelievable come back by Romania gets them virtually
in Superfinal
An amazing comeback by Romania against Poland boosted Maci’s side into the
Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. In this third stage of the European
League, the Romanian turned a really unfavourable 0-3 into a 4-3 in the last
stage of their last game in the regular phase to clinch their ninth points. Now,
they place themselves among these teams that may get into this year’s Super
Final, and only mathematics after the last stage in The Hage (July 29th –
31st)and an outstanding performance by Poland in Dutch soil could leave them
out.

Things began in a really harsh way for the Carpathians, as Saganowski and
Golebowski made it really uphill for them with a 0-3 in the first period. But, just
as the Romanian’s did last season when they seemed out of the race against
Spain, an unveliebable come-back, finished in the last seconds, made them
virtually a Super Final contender. Today, against Poland, two goals by M. Poste
and another one by Tanase left the score 3-3 by mid last leg.

Maybe the hardest part of the way was already done, and the dynamics of the
game seemed to point for a dramatic last minutes. Although maybe the
Romanians were the ones to try it more determinedly, Poland had their
chances too. Effectively, the ending was absolutely exciting, with Croi sending a
long-range attempt right into Polish goalmouth, making his team put one feet
and a half in Moscow.

Goals: 0-1: Saganowski, min. 5 (1); Golebowski, min. 1 (1); 0-3: Golebowski,
min. 0 (1); 1-3: M. Poste, min. 11 (3); 3-2: Tanase, min. 7 (3); 3-3: M. Poste,
min. 6 (3); 4-4: Croi, min. 0 (3)

France to fight for top-flight place!
France will have the chance to get their Division A back in next month’s Euro
Beach Soccer League Promotion Final. Les Bleus secured that opportunity after
edging Azerbaijan in a match that, although seemingly under control, could
have ended up dramatically for François’ team, as just some centimeters left
the Azeri ball apart from the French goal line in the last minute, when the result
was 3-2. But the ball did not reach Ruiz’s nets, and Edouard managed the final
4-2 in a smart header, tricking Vagif completely.

A first header by Basquaise put France on the road to Moscow in the beginning
of the first period, and the French seemed to have enough with that little
advantage. Elvin, with the first of his two goals, showed them they were fully
mistaken, achieving the equalizer in exactly the same minute of the second
period. Edouard came to the rescue, catching a refusal by the Azeri goalkeeper
to sweep his team ahead again, this time, for good. Soares widened the
distance with a great header for the 3-1 before that second period was over.

That advantage became even more comfortable after seeing that Azerbaijan
were kind of afraid to go all forth looking to do harm, and it was only in a free
kick conceded by goalkeeper Ruiz that they could cut the distance. Almost
without having done any merits to it, Hatamov’s team was just one goal down,
and they could even caused Les Bleus a major upset if that last ball had found
the other side of the line. But, as stated, it did not, and France will be one of
the big names next month in Moscow.

Goals: 1-0: Basquaise, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Elvin, min. 8 (2); 2-1: Edouard, min. 6
(2); 3-1: Soares, min. 1 (2); 3-2: Elvin, min. 0 (3); 4-2: Elvin, min. 0 (3)

Portugal gets stripes back in the Hague
Lusitanians edge Russia to win the last EBSL stage before
Moscow, as Holland reacts in time to get into Promotion Final
Not even one month later, Portugal managed to claim their revenge after
Russia clinched the cup in the second stage of the current Euro Beach Soccer
League, held in Berlin. In the last stage before the Superfinal, the current
European champions managed to dominate a strongest-than-ever Russian
National team in the last match in The Hague. As expected, the match was a
loud crash among two extremely competitive teams, and only little details
made the difference to unbalance the final result.

One of these differences was Portuguese number 10, Belchior, showing a
better aim than anyone on the sand. Awarded as the tournament’s top scorer
two goals by the super-talented Portuguese forward came at key moments,
rescuing Portugal first with the 2-2 equalizer, and getting the final difference
with the 5-3 when Russia was pushing strong for a late comeback. On the other
side, things did not work well enough and, although counting on the stage’s
MVP, Shaykov, Likhachev’s team did not found proper solutions to their
opponent’s solidness.

This last win places Portugal as third in the overall season rankings, following
Russia as the leader and Switzerland, in the second place. So, anything can
happen in the Superfinal in Moscow next week.

Goals: 1-0: Madjer, min. 7 (1); 1-1: Shaykov, min. 4 (1); 1-2: Krash, min. 9 (2);
2-2: Belchior, min. 7 (2); 3-2: Lucio, min. 4 (2); 4-2: L. Vaz, min. 0 (2); 4-3:

Great Dutch reaction gets them to Moscow
It was not as easy as the final score may point… Holland needed to suffer for
more than half of the game to see the score turn to their side and open the
doors to the Superfinal. But, backed by a wonderful crowd, the hosts managed
to turn the score around to finally achieve their objective: having the chance to
fight for a Division A berth in Moscow next week.

England began the game pouring cold water on the stands animosity, with
Funnell sending the ball in after the kick-off whistle. The Netherlanders knew
that, although having fell relatively easily against Greece, England’s spirit could
turn into a menacing weapon at any stage, something soon proved. The out-of-
the-Dutch-script beginning by the English went further that, and Day flashed
everyone with an amazing scissor kick for the 0-2. Things were getting too risky
for the Orange, who seemed not to find the crack in their opponent’s
resistance.

It was not until the very last minute of the first period when one of the local
heroes, Van Geldermalsen offered a new dose of his sublime talent to cut the
distance in the score, and bring a bit of hope to the scared Dutch hearts.
England was confident on their possibilities, though, and Funnel again restored
the distance in the score, disabling the Netherlander efforts so far. The game
was heading to the end of the second period, and nothing seemed to work for
the hosts, who saw how they were being sent out of the Promotion Final. But a
free kick by Ax threw some light to that darkness, and allowed the Dutch to get
to the second break just one goal down.

The final reaction that would send Holland to the Promotion Final finally came
at the last stage. A 5-0 run in that last 12 minutes not only managed to turn the
score around, but crushed all English chances and secured the ticket to
Moscow amid a true party.

Goals: 0-1: Funnell, min, 11 (1); 0-2: Day, min. 7 (3); 1-2: Van Geldermansel,
min. 0 (1); 1-3: Funnell, min. 8 (2); 2-3: Ax, min. 2 (2); 3-3: Koswal, min. 10 (3)
4-3: Tosch, min. 6 (3); 5-3: Aijach, min. 4 (3); 6-3: Ax, min. 4 (3); 7-3: Van
Rooijen, min. 1 (3);

Last Polish swipes to get first points
After having been really unlucky so far, Poland finally got a sweet closing to
their season, with a convincing victory over Spain in their last match in this
Euro Beach Soccer League. The Polish had brought exciting performances and
offered fierce resistance to all the opponents they had faced so far, but luck
had not been on their side and their standings could not be opened yet. But
they did it, erasing at the same time any little danger of being sent to
Promotion Final.

One of the beasts on the sand, Saganowski, put Poland into a comfortable
advantage with his unstoppable left foot. Three swipes by the Polish captain
made the score 0-3 by mid second period. Spain were fighting to reach the
Superfinal in the second place of the European league chart, and tried to react
to that siege they were suffering, but Merida’s and Jorge’s hits were quickly
neutralized by Goledioski’s and Stasiak’s for the final 2-5.

Goals: 0-1: Saganowski, min. 1 (1); 0-2: Saganowski, min. 8 (2); 0-3:
Saganowski, min. 5 (2); 1-3: R. Mérida, min. 2 (2); 2-3: Jorge: min. 9 (3); 2-4:

The Perfect story...

Russia anticipated they were about to make history in the
FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup by getting crowned as
European champions after winning EBSL Superfinal in an
unforgettable and magic game in front of their crowd

The Euro Beach Soccer League could not have a better ending for Russia, after
winning the Superfinal in an unforgettable match against Switzerland. The
battle between the two European superpowers held the real essence of Beach
Soccer, adding a dramatic ending of the game with the Russian turning around
a really difficult situation.

The crowd was ready to enjoy a great party in Moscow. No one thought about
anything else than seeing Leonov lift the Cup to become the kings of the sport
in Europe, the best way, undoubtedly, to reach Ravenna in a couple of weeks
for the World Cup. But Switzerland were not thinking in playing a secondary role
in this supposed party, and poured three buckets of cold water at the very
beginning of the game, to calm the atmosphere down. 0-3 was the unexpected
result by the end of first period but, although the faithful fans might see things
a little too dark, Likhachev’s squad were absolutely confident in their
possibilities.

Not even Stankovic’s new hit for the 1-4, seconds after Makarov managed to
finally open the Russian account, was enough to place in the Russian’s mind

the lightest idea of giving up, and Leonov shouted that there was nothing to
fear with the 2-4. From that moment on, Likhachev’s soldiers became
unstoppable for the Swiss, and Shkarin and Krasheninnikov made their fears
come true, leveling the score before the second period ended.
The third leg was just the confirmation of the festival, with one name arising
above the rest. Shishin, with two goals that made him the tournament’s
hardest hitter, confirmed the epic evening for Russia, recovering a crown which
spent this last year in Portugal.

France is back!
'Les Bleus' avenge defeat against Turkey in last Promotion Final to
become again a Division A team
France paid Turkey back in kind today. The French revenge lasted just one year to come to
send the Turkish to the Division they were condemned to after last year’s Promotional Final.
It was Les Bleus moment, it was what they had been waiting for during the whole season,
and they claimed what they were owed after last summer’s painful ending to go back to the
top-flight division for next year.

Turkey proved they were to be a hard nut to crack in the beginning of the match, when Seyit
swept the Ottomans ahead. But the French key player today, Didier Samoun, began his
flashing performance shortly afterwards, and with two goals turned the score around to dry
out the Turkish advantage. Baris balanced things back, and so did Tamer after a new hit by
France’s number 5 for the 2—3.

The match was as hard-fought as expected, and it seemed impossible to forecast who was to
go in Division B and who was to get in Division A next season. But the French would not let
their opponents surprise them again, and Pagis pushed them ahead with the 3-4 to begin the
French winning run, completed by Mendy and Samoun, that would take France back to where
they belong: the elite.

Goals: 1-0 Seyit, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Samoun, min. 6 (1); 1-2: Samoun, min. 4 (2); Baris, min. 4
(2); 2-3: Samoun, min. 11 (3); 3-3: Tamer, min. 9 (3); 3-4: Pagis, min. 8 (3) ; 3-5 : Mendy,
min. 3 (3); 3-6 : Samoun, min. 1 (3)

COPA LATINA
           RIO QUENTE

Hot Park – Rio Quente Resorts (Goiás, BRA)
              Jan 28th – 30th
COPA LATINA 2011

Uruguay breaks the bank!
The Charrua cause major upset in Rio Quente after bagging
the Copa Latina home against hosts Brazil on penalty kicks
Competitors got far too uncomfortable for Brazil in the Copa Latina, a title they
saw fly away for the second time in a row. Uruguay followed Chile’s last year
steps, and snatched the cup from Brazilian soil after a leveled match which
needed the penalty shootout for the final decision. The tenth crown for hosts
will have to wait, at least, until next year, in the XIIIth edition.

Seeing the Celeste concentration and focus, Brazil wanted to get in control of
the game as soon as possible, backed by the more than 2.500 people packing
the Hot Park stadium, in the Rio Quente Resorts. They managed it, thanks to an
unfortunate deflection by Fabian, who ended up sending André ball inside his
own net. After that first hit, Brazil handled the match during the first period,
but, although they enjoyed a couple of great chances, the score by the end of
the first period remained 1-0.

Uruguay strengthened their defensive disposition during the second time, cut
the Brazilian creation and managed to turn the score around, thanks to Nico’s
doublet. Benjamin came again to the rescue for the verdeamarela, and with a
long range shot managed the equalizer for the hosts. The canarinha captain
was in charge of the third goal, as well, leaving the score 3-2 up, and giving way
to probably the best Brazilian minutes in the whole game. Betinho crashed a
ball against the post, and Diego’s saves prevented any new verdeamarela
attempt in. In turn, Fabian could get even with his unlucky role in the first goal
of the game and equalized the score again: 3-3.

Extra time was not enough for any of the contenders to put both hands on the
trophy and the match necessarily headed for the penalty shootout. Obviously,
Uruguay knew than the 9 meter spot equals any forces, and took the best
advantage of it. Fabian, again, took the responsibility for the Celeste side, and
did not miss the chance. But Benjamin, instead, could not celebrate his 300

caps with a new decisive goal, and Diego’s hands finally sent the Copa Latina
to Uruguay.

In the other game of the day, Mexico secured the third place after beating
Argentina (7-6 )in a true goal-party. Plata, with 3 goals, and Barbosa, with two,
were the key factors for the current CONCACAF champions in this last game, in
which Maturin and Rodriguez completed the run. The goals by Franceschini (2),
Joel (2), Vivas and Leguizamon were not enough for the albiceleste.

Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup 2011:
A whole Beach Soccer experience

International Beach Soccer got to the sands of Florida and it did so in full
shape. The Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup 2011 staged some of the best
teams in the world for a complete high-level Beach Soccer tournament
happening in South Beach. In the temporary stadium set on the sand at the
Beach Polo facilities, Brazil, undisputable kings of the sport played their role to
claim the Cup, but it was nothing easy for them against the spirited hosts USA,
who ended up as runner-ups, current CONCACAF champions Mexico and Spain,
one of the traditional European powerhouses.

BSWW MIAMI CUP 2011

The event brought the best of beach soccer. Not only speaking about its assets
as the most spectacular version of the beautiful game, but also as a whole all-
round spectacle. The 47 goals scored (for an average of 8 goals per game), the
amazing moves and the flying of the Fair Play flag are only a part of the party,
the atmosphere and the special taste of the Beach Soccer events. And that
special flavour was fully savored in Miami’s South Beach, where the stands
were packed, the music played loud and the passion travelled from the sand to
the seats in the same intensity as it did the other way round.

much more than the most spectacular version of the Beautiful Game. Its spirit
goes beyond the magic, the fight and the effort on the sand, since this sport
cannot be understood without the respect to its privileged setting, without its
taking care of the beaches. This environmental conscience is one of the main
concerns of The Beach Soccer Foundation, which organized the “Clean the
Beach 2011” action right before the beginning of this Beach Soccer Worldwide
Miami Cup. More than 200 people took part in this initiative, doing their bit to
keep the sand safe, including all the teams involved in the tournament, the
cheerleaders and VIPs such as footballer Christian Karembeu, Spanish actress
Ana Obregón or Bolivian Businessman, Marcelo Claure.

A solidarity auction closed this amazing party. In collaboration with the Voces
Foundation, Beach Soccer Worldwide organized this action to help raising
funds to help the underprivileged children. The auction consisted in the selling
of a Mexico National Football team T-shirt signed by Rafa Márquez, Chicharito
and all the rest of the players, and a FC Barcelona outfit, also autographed by
the whole squad, with Messi, Xavi, Villa, Puyol… The initiative turned into a
huge success, achieving to collect a significant quantity which will travel,
directly, to the hands of those who need it most.

  • 3. SEASON REVIEW 2011 Welcome Beach Soccer beats new landmarks, welcomes new territories and designs new realities It is a great pleasure for me to greet you all again at the end of a new year in Beach Soccer. And it is mainly so because the new season has proven that we are on the right track to see the sport grow and grow. Too many things have happened during this last 12 months not to consider this 2011 as a key year for the sport development, a stage which, thanks to great efforts and a lot of passion, have brought significant steps forward which will set a referential point in our history. This 2011 will be remember for good as a year in which the dream of seeing the Clubs competition came true. The I Mundialito de Clubes, held in Sao Paulo in March, opened the door to a whole new life for the sport. And, as anticipated, the clubs competition is here to stay, with this desire firmly backed by an amusing success both in terms of media interest and competition standards. Another of the wonderful news about this last season was the opening of new venues, which added even more glamour and brightness to the World-scale circuit. Miami and Lagos joined the BSWW Tour, delivering, together with Samsung Intercontinental Cup Dubai, three great competitions that will for sure stay in the Beach Soccer calendar for a long time, confirming at the same time that Beach Soccer is a worldwide citizen. Together with the turning point set by Russia’s winning the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and ending Brazil’s dominion, it is an irrefutable fact that the competitiveness and entity of all the squads has also experienced a remarkable growth, and this is also a great symptom of the sport’s excellent health. After all these facts, and the incorporation of the women’s beach soccer we are working hard on, the route is set for the new golden objective, one we feel to be in the right path to: the Olympics. It is an ambitious goal, and there’s a lot to fight for, yet, but the prize is more than worth it... Beach Soccer, then, is stronger than ever, and we just wanted to say one thing for that: Thank you for being a key part of it. Thank you for making it happen. • 6. SEASON REVIEW 2011 TV coverage The love story between Beach Soccer and TV keeps as strong as ever, and the sport got further confirmed this season as a perfect Small Screen product. Figures set this even clearer, with a very successful 2012 season in which many broadcasters jumped aboard and joined the party of a fast-growing sport. The usual Giant platforms, such as Eurosport, FOX, Al Jazeera, Super Sport, Rede Globo and so strengthened their relationship with Beach Soccer, and important newcomers joined the spectrum to shape a great Worldwide coverage map. Through the new agreements this year, more supporters, in more countries than before, could enjoy the thrilling action of the sport. During the whole season, the games broadcasts reached more than 540 million households, getting the action to the screens of more than 180 countries worldwide. This was accomplished thanks to the involvement of up to 24 major broadcasters, whose coverage area left almost no territories uncovered. These figures were even significantly increased when dealing with news videos. In an event such as the BSWW Miami Cup, for instance, Associated Press and Sports News Television took the images of the games to up to 1000 million households globally. For the first time also this year, every single event was produced in High Definition, hence securing all details to travel through the waves and let the sports followers every single movement happening on the sand. • 21. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE 2011 Euro Beach Soccer League (EBSL) 2011 format The Euro Beach Soccer League brings the top national teams from the entire continent to compete head to head in a thrilling summer-long league format. Originally started back in 1998, this exciting continental competition has been constantly gaining reputation and catching the attention of more and more countries. The competition travels from place to place with the league setting up camp for a weekend at a time, attracting large crowds of spectators and giving each event a unique feel for the television audience. BSWW are always looking to improve, and confirming this fact, the Beach Soccer entity created the following format to try and standardize its most prestigious competition. The EBSL 2011 featured again four preliminary events in four different stages around the old continent, being the one in Bern the opening leg of this year’s season. Next stops for the ESLB locomotive this season were Berlin (July 8th-10th), Ravenna (July 15th-17th) and The Hague (July 29th-31st). The best teams during these stages headed for the final battle in Moscow (August 4th-7th), where the EBSL Superfinal raised Russia as the best team in Europe, just weeks before Likhachev’s team made history by snatching Brazil the World Cup. As usual, the EBSL 2011 was divided into two separate divisions, Division A and Division B. Division A consists of the 8 top teams in Europe based on the BSWW European Ranking. Division B consists of the lower ranked teams and new entries to the competition. Each division has its own regulations and competition format. In each EBSL venue there were four teams competing in the Division A pool and three in the Division B pool, facing each other in a round-robin format. Each team competed in two preliminary events to see their points obtained accumulated into an overall ranking that determined the teams qualified for the Superfinal in Moscow (August 4th-7th). The same system worked for Division B contenders. The four EBSL stage winners plus the runner-up with better figures in the season got into the Promotion Final, in which they battled together with the lowest ranked team in Division A to gain a slot in the top-flight division for the following season, being France the ones to do so, avenging last year’s exchanged roles with Turkey. • 27. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE BERN 2011 Spain and Israel, first winners! Italy snatches second place in the EBSL Bern 2011 after bending Switzerland in the last game La Roja did not slow down their march after mathematically winning yesterday the Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011 stage, and got rid today of a cheeky Turkey that, although being their first stage in Division A, left a great impression. Spaniards clinch this way their ninth points in Switzerland and have their foot at the door of the EBSL Super Final. One of the new sensations of Joaquin’s squad, Nelson, got the opener for his side, during the first period, and it was not until mid second leg that one of the Turkish target men, Ayhan, leveled things. But the Ottoman joy was ephemeral, since in the next minute, another newcomer, Aceitón, would rocket a ball in for the 2-1. In the following minutes, the Spaniards increased their advantage, and Juanma and Beiro made it 4-1, only to see Erhan cutting it a bit with his fourth goal in the tournament. The 4-2 was stuck on the scoreboard for most of the last period, until Ayhan, with his second hit today, made the afternoon uneasy for La Roja. At least, the four minutes yet to be played. But experience was Spain’s best weapons in that last seconds, and Turkey could not find any crack to Xan’s nets, and the victory fell on the Spanish side. Goals: 1-0: Nelson, min. 2 (1); 1-1: Ayhan, min. 7 (2); 2-1: Aceitón, min. 6 (2); 3- 1: Juanma, min. 4 (2); 4-1: Miguel Beiro, min. 3 (2); 4-2: Erhan, min. 2 (2); 4-3: Ayhan, min. 4 (3) SEASON REVIEW 27
  • 28. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE BERN 2011 Italy’s efficacy is superior to the Swiss Switzerland could not keep the second place in this first Euro Beach Soccer League 2011 stage of Bern. The hosts found it impossible to recover after a solid beginning by the Azzurri, and ended hopeless in front of the Italian expertise. When the transalpine are ahead, it is difficult to bring them down. The Swiss knew it very well today. Italy were better during the first stages of the game, and enjoyed several dangerous chances to step ahead. Finally, Soria would sweep the Azzurri in front with a bright finishing, and Leghissa would dive to head a ball in after a great strategy movement just seconds afterwards. Things began turning too uphill for hosts Switzerland, and although Schirinzi cut the distance in the first minute of the second half, the 2-1 would remain until the next break. Only twelve minutes left for Switzerland to try the final attack for the game, but it did not work. Instead, Italy took an excellent advantage of the Swiss needs, and two new goals by Soria finished all local chances, as well as gave the Italian number 9 the Goals: 1-0 : Soria, min. 3 (1); Leghissa, min. 3 (1); Schirinzi, min. 11 (2) ; 3-1: Soria, min. 2 (3) ; 4-1 : Soria, min. 0 (3) SEASON REVIEW 28
  • 29. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE BERN 2011 Israel win the Division B stage in the EBSL Bern 2011 Israel will be in Moscow next August, fighting for the ticket to Division A. Lam’s surprising side ran over favourites Ukraine and thanks to a 5-2 victory became the Division B champions of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011, what automatically guarantees them a place in the EBSL Promotion Final. The Israeli, although facing the current champions of the European Qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, were confident in their possibilities, and that confidence was finally rewarded. They knew that they needed to be extremely competitive today, and they were, conceding their opponents few chances, and forcing them to do their best in every ball, in every clash, in every run. A rushing beginning was worth one goal for Israel, but that was not enough to get in control of the game, since Ukraine knew how to shift things on their favour and Riabchuk and Andreiev made it 1-2 rather quickly. But Amar was even quicker to strike back for the 2-2 which closed the first period. That first horn somehow signaled the end of the road for Ukraine, too. As from the second period on, Israel commanded the game, stepping ahead for the second time, thanks to Yatim, never letting their opponents recover. Instead, they leant on a precise counterattack to progressively widen the distance with an amazing goal by captain Iloz, and the fifth by Yatim, which finally secured the first place, and the ticket to the Promotion Final, for Lam’s side. Goals: 1-0: Levi, min. 10 (1); 1-1: Riabchuk, min. 6 (1); 1-2: Andreiev, min. 4 (1); 2-2: Amar, min. 3 (1); 3-2: Yatim, min. 7 (2); 4-2: Iloz, min. 3 (2); 5-2: Yatim, min. 2 (3) SEASON REVIEW 29

  • 34. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE BERLIN 2011 EBSL Berlin 2011 Cup goes to Russia! ... and Czech Republic snatches the Promotion Final berth after edgeing hosts Germany in the last game of the tournament The Euro Beach Soccer League – Berlin 2011 stage cup flew to Russian hands, after a breath-taking final which offered the best of Beach Soccer: ten amazing goals, a great atmosphere, and two of the best teams in the world battling for a cup which only had a rather clear owner at the end of the match. Fielding an amusing fitness, Russia began putting into siege Graça’s goal, with two shots in the first seconds of the game top ut the Portuguese goalie into serious difficulties. After those overwhelming first minutes, Portugal regained their breath and looked to Bukhlitskiy’s end. Madjer could have opened the score when being conceded a penalty kick, but the excellent Russian goalkeeper guessed his aim and prevented the captain to sweep ahead the current champions. Just a couple of minutes afterwards, instead, Krasheninnikov managed the opener for his side to get to first break ahead on the score. This is exactly the scenario no team wants to be thrown at: if Russia gets ahead, it gets really difficult to block their march to the triumph. But if there’s a team capable of doing so, this is magic-packed Portugal, with players capable of doing real harm at any moment. It is not only Madjer or Belchior, but any other. • 35. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE BERLIN 2011 equalizer in front of the 2000 people witnessing one of the best possible battles in this sport. And that was not the end of the work done by the unsuspected hero numbered 2, as some minutes afterwards he himself drove a strong race to reach the ball and sent it out of Bukhlitskiy’s reach for the turn- around completion. Portugal was in the right vibe, and Ze Miguel’s lads willed not to leave the chance to get a higher advantage. When the last minute of that second leg was inching to the horn, the red side built a brilliant collective move, back-heel pass by Madjer included, for Bruno Novo to finish and raise the 3-1. Russia got then back on duty with the beginning of the third period, with Eremeev cutting the distance. But current title-holders were feeling strong, and Madjer restored the 2-goal gap. But in that frenetic first minutes of the last period, the Russians confirmed they were not to give up regardless the distance to climb. Shishin was the man to carry that flag. Russia’s 6 not only balanced the score in just 90 seconds, but with two new goals got the cup to Russian hands. Goals: 0-1: Krash, min. 1 (1); 1-1: Coimbra, min. 6 (2); 2-1: Coimbra, min. 4 (2); 3-1: Bruno Novo, min. 0 (2); 3-2: Eremeev, min. 9 (3); 4-2: Madjer, min. 8 (3); 4- 3: Shishin, min. 8 (3); 4-4: Shishin, min. 6 (3); 4-5: Shishin, min. 2 (3); 4-6: Shishin, min. 0 (3) Romania secures top-flight points Romania left Turkey with no chance of points in their Division A debut, securing at the same time they will be a Division A team next season, as the Ottoman will not be able to equalize the three points already at Romanian hands. It cannot be said that it is a fair ending for Turkey, as they have shown really good thing in thei matches this season. But the highest-level beach soccer is fiercely competitive, and you need to be really tough to edge the great teams involved in the competition. Turkey determinedly sought their opponent’s goal in the first minutes, acknowledging that this match against Romania was the last chance to skip having to fight for their top-flight berth in next month’s Promotion Final in Moscow (August, 4th-7th). They targeted it, and were quite successful in their quest, as Ayhan achieved the opener for the Ottoman with just one minute gone. Only the posts prevented Turkey for a wider advantage in an inspired first period for Adil’s lads. Romania reacted after the break, indeed, in the very first move, when Croi leveled things with the 1-1. Turkey did not want to let their chance go, and Tamer immediately replied to recover the advantage for his side. The Carpathians had stepped back onto the game, and they had done it for good. Boata and Maci turned the score around and kept with the stroke exchange which led to the 5-4 by the Romanian target man, one of the best players in Europe. Although Turkey kept trying, the Romanian defense sent all balls out to snatch their first three points in the season, with which they assure they will not face relegation this season. Now is the moment to look for higher things for Maci, the Postes, and co. SEASON REVIEW 35

After being surprised in the first period, the Mannschaft found it difficult to cope with the game, as they never managed to get ahead, and remained unable to retain the trophy within its frontiers. Things began in a hard way for the hosts. Although they had got in control of the game, and were attempting to open the score to give their crowd a deserved joy, they were faced to the Czechs first goal. Dannilo rocketed a ball in for the equalizer, giving the game a new beginning for Germany. But in that new beginning, the Czechs were even tougher, as they got 1-3 ahead in the first minutes of the second period. Ulle cut that distance a bit, but Mizar poured a last bucket of cold water over the German heads when, right from the corner, sent the ball in, catching Klon and his defenders by surprise, and raising the 4-2 on the score. With 4 minutes to go, the hosts kept trying to launch the comeback, but all their attempts were fruitless. Instead, Czech Republic finished the game, with Lukic and Kovarik making it 2-6 to seize the Division B first position. The Czechs, then, enjoyed the chance to fight in the Promotion Final for a place in Division A next season. France will be there, too Switzerland raised the Cup of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Ravenna 2011, after bending hosts Italy in a hard fought last game, tightly unbalanced thanks to the goals by Rodrigues and Leu. With the points achieved so far, the Alpines find themselves mathematically in the Super Final, whereas Italy, with nine points is almost virtually in Moscow, too. Although the Italians needed a wide victory to have the chance to keep the Cup at home due to their heavy defeat yesterday, the Azzurri were set to go for it. Switzerland, in turn, though in taking the opportunity of already securing their place to fight for the European throne, without needing to fear any miracle by Poland in the last stage in The Hague. Both teams felt the highest of respects towards their opponent and preferred not to get too uncovered during the first stages. It was not until the 8th minute of the second leg that Rodrigues invented an unforgettable overhead kick to blast the ball at the back of the Italian nets. The best goalkeeper of the tournament, Italian Simone Del Mestre, could do nothing to prevent the ball in as the missile by Swiss number 5 was unstoppable. The match changed at that moment. Being already down in the score, hosts could do nothing but going into attack and try to change the course of things. They put Valentin’s goal under their crosshair, but nothing worked for them. Instead, Leu found the way to Del Mestre’s nets with a powerful free kick to make it 0-2. There were just 4 minutes left, and the Alpine side would not take any risk. They made a couple of steps backwards and closed lines tight wight Valentin, leaving Italy no chance to react and seizing the Cup. • 98. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE RAVENNA 2011 Unbelievable come back by Romania gets them virtually in Superfinal An amazing comeback by Romania against Poland boosted Maci’s side into the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. In this third stage of the European League, the Romanian turned a really unfavourable 0-3 into a 4-3 in the last stage of their last game in the regular phase to clinch their ninth points. Now, they place themselves among these teams that may get into this year’s Super Final, and only mathematics after the last stage in The Hage (July 29th – 31st)and an outstanding performance by Poland in Dutch soil could leave them out. Things began in a really harsh way for the Carpathians, as Saganowski and Golebowski made it really uphill for them with a 0-3 in the first period. But, just as the Romanian’s did last season when they seemed out of the race against Spain, an unveliebable come-back, finished in the last seconds, made them virtually a Super Final contender. Today, against Poland, two goals by M. Poste and another one by Tanase left the score 3-3 by mid last leg. Maybe the hardest part of the way was already done, and the dynamics of the game seemed to point for a dramatic last minutes. Although maybe the Romanians were the ones to try it more determinedly, Poland had their chances too. Effectively, the ending was absolutely exciting, with Croi sending a long-range attempt right into Polish goalmouth, making his team put one feet and a half in Moscow. Goals: 0-1: Saganowski, min. 5 (1); Golebowski, min. 1 (1); 0-3: Golebowski, min. 0 (1); 1-3: M. Poste, min. 11 (3); 3-2: Tanase, min. 7 (3); 3-3: M. • 99. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE RAVENNA 2011 France to fight for top-flight place! France will have the chance to get their Division A back in next month’s Euro Beach Soccer League Promotion Final. Les Bleus secured that opportunity after edging Azerbaijan in a match that, although seemingly under control, could have ended up dramatically for François’ team, as just some centimeters left the Azeri ball apart from the French goal line in the last minute, when the result was 3-2. But the ball did not reach Ruiz’s nets, and Edouard managed the final 4-2 in a smart header, tricking Vagif completely. A first header by Basquaise put France on the road to Moscow in the beginning of the first period, and the French seemed to have enough with that little advantage. Elvin, with the first of his two goals, showed them they were fully mistaken, achieving the equalizer in exactly the same minute of the second period. Edouard came to the rescue, catching a refusal by the Azeri goalkeeper to sweep his team ahead again, this time, for good. Soares widened the distance with a great header for the 3-1 before that second period was over. That advantage became even more comfortable after seeing that Azerbaijan were kind of afraid to go all forth looking to do harm, and it was only in a free kick conceded by goalkeeper Ruiz that they could cut the distance. Almost without having done any merits to it, Hatamov’s team was just one goal down, and they could even caused Les Bleus a major upset if that last ball had found the other side of the line. But, as stated, it did not, and France will be one of the big names next month in Moscow. Goals: 1-0: Basquaise, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Elvin, min. 8 (2); 2-1: Edouard, min. 6 (2); 3-1: Soares, min. 1 (2); 3-2: Elvin, min. 0 (3); 4-2: Elvin, min. 0 (3) SEASON REVIEW 99

  • 135. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE THE HAGUE 2011 Portugal gets stripes back in the Hague Lusitanians edge Russia to win the last EBSL stage before Moscow, as Holland reacts in time to get into Promotion Final Not even one month later, Portugal managed to claim their revenge after Russia clinched the cup in the second stage of the current Euro Beach Soccer League, held in Berlin. In the last stage before the Superfinal, the current European champions managed to dominate a strongest-than-ever Russian National team in the last match in The Hague. As expected, the match was a loud crash among two extremely competitive teams, and only little details made the difference to unbalance the final result. One of these differences was Portuguese number 10, Belchior, showing a better aim than anyone on the sand. Awarded as the tournament’s top scorer two goals by the super-talented Portuguese forward came at key moments, rescuing Portugal first with the 2-2 equalizer, and getting the final difference with the 5-3 when Russia was pushing strong for a late comeback. On the other side, things did not work well enough and, although counting on the stage’s MVP, Shaykov, Likhachev’s team did not found proper solutions to their opponent’s solidness. This last win places Portugal as third in the overall season rankings, following Russia as the leader and Switzerland, in the second place. So, anything can happen in the Superfinal in Moscow next week. Goals: 1-0: Madjer, min. 7 (1); 1-1: Shaykov, min. 4 (1); 1-2: Krash, min. 9 (2); 2-2: Belchior, min. 7 (2); 3-2: Lucio, min. 4 (2); 4-2: L. • 136. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE THE HAGUE 2011 Great Dutch reaction gets them to Moscow It was not as easy as the final score may point… Holland needed to suffer for more than half of the game to see the score turn to their side and open the doors to the Superfinal. But, backed by a wonderful crowd, the hosts managed to turn the score around to finally achieve their objective: having the chance to fight for a Division A berth in Moscow next week. England began the game pouring cold water on the stands animosity, with Funnell sending the ball in after the kick-off whistle. The Netherlanders knew that, although having fell relatively easily against Greece, England’s spirit could turn into a menacing weapon at any stage, something soon proved. The out-of- the-Dutch-script beginning by the English went further that, and Day flashed everyone with an amazing scissor kick for the 0-2. Things were getting too risky for the Orange, who seemed not to find the crack in their opponent’s resistance. It was not until the very last minute of the first period when one of the local heroes, Van Geldermalsen offered a new dose of his sublime talent to cut the distance in the score, and bring a bit of hope to the scared Dutch hearts. England was confident on their possibilities, though, and Funnel again restored the distance in the score, disabling the Netherlander efforts so far. The game was heading to the end of the second period, and nothing seemed to work for the hosts, who saw how they were being sent out of the Promotion Final. But a free kick by Ax threw some light to that darkness, and allowed the Dutch to get to the second break just one goal down. The final reaction that would send Holland to the Promotion Final finally came at the last stage. A 5-0 run in that last 12 minutes not only managed to turn the score around, but crushed all English chances and secured the ticket to Moscow amid a true party. • 137. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE THE HAGUE 2011 Last Polish swipes to get first points After having been really unlucky so far, Poland finally got a sweet closing to their season, with a convincing victory over Spain in their last match in this Euro Beach Soccer League. The Polish had brought exciting performances and offered fierce resistance to all the opponents they had faced so far, but luck had not been on their side and their standings could not be opened yet. But they did it, erasing at the same time any little danger of being sent to Promotion Final. One of the beasts on the sand, Saganowski, put Poland into a comfortable advantage with his unstoppable left foot. Three swipes by the Polish captain made the score 0-3 by mid second period. Spain were fighting to reach the Superfinal in the second place of the European league chart, and tried to react to that siege they were suffering, but Merida’s and Jorge’s hits were quickly neutralized by Goledioski’s and Stasiak’s for the final 2-5. • 151. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE SUPERFINAL & PROMOTIONAL FINAL MOSCOW 2011 The Perfect story... Russia anticipated they were about to make history in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup by getting crowned as European champions after winning EBSL Superfinal in an unforgettable and magic game in front of their crowd The Euro Beach Soccer League could not have a better ending for Russia, after winning the Superfinal in an unforgettable match against Switzerland. The battle between the two European superpowers held the real essence of Beach Soccer, adding a dramatic ending of the game with the Russian turning around a really difficult situation. The crowd was ready to enjoy a great party in Moscow. No one thought about anything else than seeing Leonov lift the Cup to become the kings of the sport in Europe, the best way, undoubtedly, to reach Ravenna in a couple of weeks for the World Cup. But Switzerland were not thinking in playing a secondary role in this supposed party, and poured three buckets of cold water at the very beginning of the game, to calm the atmosphere down. 0-3 was the unexpected result by the end of first period but, although the faithful fans might see things a little too dark, Likhachev’s squad were absolutely confident in their possibilities. Not even Stankovic’s new hit for the 1-4, seconds after Makarov managed to finally open the Russian account, was enough to place in the Russian’s mind SEASON REVIEW 151

  • 153. EURO BEACH SOCCER LEAGUE SUPERFINAL & PROMOTIONAL FINAL MOSCOW 2011 EBSL Promotion Final 2011 France is back! 'Les Bleus' avenge defeat against Turkey in last Promotion Final to become again a Division A team France paid Turkey back in kind today. The French revenge lasted just one year to come to send the Turkish to the Division they were condemned to after last year’s Promotional Final. It was Les Bleus moment, it was what they had been waiting for during the whole season, and they claimed what they were owed after last summer’s painful ending to go back to the top-flight division for next year. Turkey proved they were to be a hard nut to crack in the beginning of the match, when Seyit swept the Ottomans ahead. But the French key player today, Didier Samoun, began his flashing performance shortly afterwards, and with two goals turned the score around to dry out the Turkish advantage. Baris balanced things back, and so did Tamer after a new hit by France’s number 5 for the 2—3. The match was as hard-fought as expected, and it seemed impossible to forecast who was to go in Division B and who was to get in Division A next season. But the French would not let their opponents surprise them again, and Pagis pushed them ahead with the 3-4 to begin the French winning run, completed by Mendy and Samoun, that would take France back to where they belong: the elite. Goals: 1-0 Seyit, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Samoun, min. 6 (1); 1-2: Samoun, min. 4 (2); Baris, min. 4 (2); 2-3: Samoun, min. 11 (3); 3-3: Tamer, min. 9 (3); 3-4: Pagis, min. 8 (3) ; 3-5 : Mendy, min. 3 (3); 3-6 : Samoun, min. 1 (3) SEASON REVIEW 153

  • 189. COPA LATINA 2011 Uruguay breaks the bank! The Charrua cause major upset in Rio Quente after bagging the Copa Latina home against hosts Brazil on penalty kicks Competitors got far too uncomfortable for Brazil in the Copa Latina, a title they saw fly away for the second time in a row. Uruguay followed Chile’s last year steps, and snatched the cup from Brazilian soil after a leveled match which needed the penalty shootout for the final decision. The tenth crown for hosts will have to wait, at least, until next year, in the XIIIth edition. Seeing the Celeste concentration and focus, Brazil wanted to get in control of the game as soon as possible, backed by the more than 2.500 people packing the Hot Park stadium, in the Rio Quente Resorts. They managed it, thanks to an unfortunate deflection by Fabian, who ended up sending André ball inside his own net. After that first hit, Brazil handled the match during the first period, but, although they enjoyed a couple of great chances, the score by the end of the first period remained 1-0. Uruguay strengthened their defensive disposition during the second time, cut the Brazilian creation and managed to turn the score around, thanks to Nico’s doublet. Benjamin came again to the rescue for the verdeamarela, and with a long range shot managed the equalizer for the hosts. The canarinha captain was in charge of the third goal, as well, leaving the score 3-2 up, and giving way to probably the best Brazilian minutes in the whole game. Betinho crashed a ball against the post, and Diego’s saves prevented any new verdeamarela attempt in. In turn, Fabian could get even with his unlucky role in the first goal of the game and equalized the score again: 3-3. Extra time was not enough for any of the contenders to put both hands on the trophy and the match necessarily headed for the penalty shootout. Obviously, Uruguay knew than the 9 meter spot equals any forces, and took the best advantage of it. Fabian, again, took the responsibility for the Celeste side, and did not miss the chance. But Benjamin, instead, could not celebrate his 300 SEASON REVIEW 189

In the other game of the day, Mexico secured the third place after beating Argentina (7-6 )in a true goal-party. Plata, with 3 goals, and Barbosa, with two, were the key factors for the current CONCACAF champions in this last game, in which Maturin and Rodriguez completed the run. The goals by Franceschini (2), Joel (2), Vivas and Leguizamon were not enough for the albiceleste. SEASON REVIEW 190

  • 194. BSWW MIAMI CUP 2011 The event brought the best of beach soccer. Not only speaking about its assets as the most spectacular version of the beautiful game, but also as a whole all- round spectacle. The 47 goals scored (for an average of 8 goals per game), the amazing moves and the flying of the Fair Play flag are only a part of the party, the atmosphere and the special taste of the Beach Soccer events. And that special flavour was fully savored in Miami’s South Beach, where the stands were packed, the music played loud and the passion travelled from the sand to the seats in the same intensity as it did the other way round. But high-performance beach soccer was not the only spectacle on display on the South Beach sand, since this BSWW Miami Cup counted on many different actions to bring even more excitement on. One of the coolest was a celebrity Beach Soccer game, scheduled for Sunday 1st May, 14:30 hours, featuring some of the current most popular pop singers, actors, musicians, sportsmen, who will join the action to jump onto the venue pitch for a really eye-catching match. Former footballers such as World Champion Christian Karembeu, Juan Pablo Galavis, current Miami FC player, the Quijano Brothers (Manolo and Óscar), from Spanish group Café Quijano, Mexican actor Héctor Soberón, and many others, did not want to miss the chance of jumping onto the sand and spending a wonderful time playing this soccer modality, as well as bringing a great time to all those sitting at the stands. Besides the celebrity match, an emotional concert by Spanish star singer Antonio Orozco and two fashion by ANK and shows boosted onsite the glamour and the beauty in this colourful event to turn it into an unforgettable memory. Time for thinking in green, too Besides the flashes and the highest level sportsmen on the sand, there was also the time for thinking about the world surrounding us. Beach Soccer is SEASON REVIEW 194
  • 195. BSWW MIAMI CUP 2011 much more than the most spectacular version of the Beautiful Game. Its spirit goes beyond the magic, the fight and the effort on the sand, since this sport cannot be understood without the respect to its privileged setting, without its taking care of the beaches. This environmental conscience is one of the main concerns of The Beach Soccer Foundation, which organized the “Clean the Beach 2011” action right before the beginning of this Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup. More than 200 people took part in this initiative, doing their bit to keep the sand safe, including all the teams involved in the tournament, the cheerleaders and VIPs such as footballer Christian Karembeu, Spanish actress Ana Obregón or Bolivian Businessman, Marcelo Claure. A solidarity auction closed this amazing party. In collaboration with the Voces Foundation, Beach Soccer Worldwide organized this action to help raising funds to help the underprivileged children. The auction consisted in the selling of a Mexico National Football team T-shirt signed by Rafa Márquez, Chicharito and all the rest of the players, and a FC Barcelona outfit, also autographed by the whole squad, with Messi, Xavi, Villa, Puyol… The initiative turned into a huge success, achieving to collect a significant quantity which will travel, directly, to the hands of those who need it most.
