Santander supports 20 students of the
University of Münster
 Awarding of 20 “Deutschlandstipendien” at University of Münster

February 2015.- Santander Consumer Bank, through Santander
Universidades, awarded 20 sponsored “Deutschlandstipendien” -like also in the year before-
to students of the Westphalia Wilhelms-University Münster for an initial period of one year.
The bank assists the universities on behalf of Santander Universitäten, a unit belonging to
Banco Santander’s corporate area Santander Universidades. Within the scope of the social
commitment of Banco Santander, since 1996 Santander Universidades fosters strong
relationships with nearly 1,200 academic institutions worldwide.
The scholarship certificate was awarded during a festive event held at the University in
Münster. During the festivities, a total of 223 German scholarships were granted. Santander
will also support the scholars through joint projects and the possibility of future international
career perspectives. Alberto Dörr Arana, Director Planning and Development Santander
Universidades and Udo Schweers, Director Santander Universitäten Germany, personally
awarded the Santander scholarships at the ceremony.
The „Deutschlandstipendium“ is an initiative of the German Government. Talented students
receive a support of 300 euro a month, half of which is paid by a private institution – in this
case Santander, the other half is paid by the German Government. Santander in Germany
supports the initiative and plans to increase the company's own quota of scholarships in the
context of social responsibility. Currently, “Santander Universitäten” supports 80 scholarship
holders in Germany.
Santander Germany, through Santander Universities, also maintains cooperations with the
Humboldt University of Berlin as well as the University of Bremen, the University of Cologne,
the University of Göttingen, the University of Heidelberg, the University of Münster,
Hochschule Niederrhein and the University of Tübingen.
The cooperation between Santander and the Westphalia Wilhelm-University Münster exists
since January 2013. Aim of the cooperation is to provide financial support to build an
interdisciplinary “Evolution Think Tank” for international doctoral candidates at the „WWU
Graduate Centre“. The “WWU Graduate Centre” is aimed to advise the doctoral candidates
concerning their promotion planning and career development. Additionally, two posts in the

student counseling will be created in the international contact center “Die Brücke” (the
bridge) and the „WWU Graduate Centre“.
