Mesh Youth Leader Job Description
Job Summary
 Oversee programs that connect with young people in Eaglehawk Secondary College
 Oversee programs outside the school that strengthen relationships with young
people in the Eaglehawk, California Gully, Long Gully region.
 Oversee the leadership development of leaders in Mesh
 Be available to pastorally care for young people in the region and encourage Mesh
leaders to do the same.
 Ensure opportunities for spiritual growth are available for young people who are
interested
Duties and responsibilities
Administration
 Ensure safe programs through appropriate leader checks and assessment of risks for
events
 Ensure Mesh programs are advertised effectively
 Ensure appropriate documentation is kept. Eg. Youth participant details, incident
reporting, and basic finances (Reimbursements and income)
Networking
 Build strong relationships with parents and families
 Ensure strong working relationships exist with 3 overseeing churches
 Ensure strong working relationship with Eaglehawk Secondary College
 Build relationships with other youth workers and organisations helping young people
in the region.
Programs
 Use a participatory model of decision-making for the activities and flavour of MESH
youth so that ownership is increased
 Creating community-building experiences that build trust between participants:
excursions, activity-based learning etc.
 Use story-based methods to facilitate discussion about Christian faith
 Working with parachurch groups to 'second' youth workers to get involved as youth
leaders.
 Evaluate and change programs to ensure programs continue to connect with young
people
Training
 Work with assorted training groups to provide basic youth work training for trainee
youth leaders.
Accountability
 Regular meetings with Church leaders of Eaglehawk Uniting Church, Eaglehawk
Anglican Church and St Matthew’s Long Gully
 Regular supervision/mentoring with person yet to be determined
 Provide Bi-monthly report to Saltbush Community Initiatives Inc., Eaglehawk
Anglican Church and Eaglehawk Uniting Church.
In addition to the above it is also expected that the Mesh Youth leader will also ensure that
s/he is taking time to be trained, to take care of himself/herself and as mentioned above a
mentor/coach/supervisor to be able to bounce ideas off, discuss burdens/issues and also be
challenged as to what s/he is doing, where his/her time should be focused and decisions
made.

Administration
Ensure safe programs
- Appropriate leader checks As required
- Keep updated with Child Safe programs 1 day per year
- Train volunteers in child safe programs 1 day per year
- Assess program events for risk 30mins fortnightly
Advertise Mesh Programs
- Compile Calendar each term and distribute 2 hours per term
- Organise Banner for events 1hr by Nov 4
- Explore ways to advertise Mesh eg Dahlia and Arts ?
Keep records updated such as contact details, finances etc 30mins fortnightly
Ensure accurate incident reporting As needs
Networking
Build strong family relationships
- Ensure parents are well informed
- Contact parents to discuss program and child
Ensure strong working relationship with 3 churches
- Meeting with church leaders 1hr per term
- Attending relevant church events ??
- Provision of Bi-monthly report 1hr per report
Ensure strong working relationship with Eaglehawk Secondary
- Meet school reps (Noel or Dani) 2-3 times per year
- Take time when in school to connect with teachers, staff
Build relationships with other organisations
- Meet with and get to know other youth leaders 3-4 times a year
- Meet with and get to know other organisations leaders 3-4 times a year
Programs
Evaluate programs at the end of each term (with leadership
group)
4 times a year
Ensure Friday night program runs according to values of a
participation model, community building and utilises story based
methods
- Preparation 3-4 hours Fortnightly
- Friday Nights 3-4 hours Fortnightly
Training
Provide 2 hr PD sessions to youth leaders 3-4 yearly
- Preparation and organisation 2-3 hours each
Accountability
Meet with leaders of oversight churches 2 hrs, 4 times per year
Supervision 1 hour per month
Bi-monthly report to church leaders 1 hour each
