Question 7
1. Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
full product?
2. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
Preliminary task
Final magazine
3. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The masthead of my
student magazine is very
flat and can easily be
missed by the reader,
despite the fact a masthead
should stand out.The font
isn’t specially downloaded
it’s a standard font and
used by many people
making the headline
boring.
The boxes around the
headlines are badly
drawn as the don’t fit
well around the text,
showing the magazine
cover as messy and
not perfected.
The black boxes under the
white text actually make it
harder to read.
The image is badly cut
out and the lighting isn’t
ideal for a good quality
photo.
The barcode looks
randomly placed.
The light blue
background is an odd
colour to have used as
it adds to the flat
effect I have
accidently created.
No main headline.
4. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The masthead is obvious
and stands out on the
page. I added a shadow
to force it off the page.
Added detail like an email
to add more to the page
and look more professional.
Good lighting to make the
image look more
professional.
Different sizes and colours
to create layers for the
readers eyes to follow
more easily. It adds depth
to the magazine.
Adding strokes highlights
the importance of a text
and shows what is the
main point of a headline.
Extra things on the
cover like
competitions and
rewards to futher
attract the reader to
pick up the magazine.
Adding details that make
the texts closer together
to make the magazine
look less amateur and
avoids making the reader
can long lines of text that
looks he same.
Adding a guitar to ensure the genre
of the magazine is obvious.
5. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The headline is really flat and
thin. It doesn’t stand out and,
again, uses a font already
programmed in the computer
which doesn’t create a sense
of a brand because it is a font
assessable to everyone.
The contents isn’t a straight
line and although this was
purposely done, it looks
rushed and messy.
The photograph has
random things in it showing
it wasn’t a planned photo.
Plus the lighting isnt great
and the photo was adjusted
to increase saturation and
brightness.
The white against the
blue is hard to view
which is bad because
the page numbers
should be easily
viewable.
It’s not obvious
why only some
of the texts
have boxes
round them.
6. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The logo (masthead)
constantly reminding the
reader of the brand that
is Platform.
Neat line to ensure the
pages looks tidy and well
put together.
Categories to make it easier
for the reader to know what
they’re looking for.
Quotes on the page
from the main article,
not only to fill space
and make the page
look attractive but also
to hook the reader.
Extra photos so the
cover artist isn’t the
only artist standing out
on the page and proves
the magazine has a lot
to offer.
Extras on the page.
Shows there is a lot of
content and also looks
visually appealing
adding extra boxes
and colour, adding
more the the page.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The masthead on my final product is a lot
clearer, eye catching and the shadow behind
it really lifts it from the page, whereas the
masthead on the preliminary task is flat and
boring.
There is no main headline on the
first magazine I did and my music
magazine’s main headline is very
clear an obvious. Also I feel overall
my cover lines look better (clear
an eye catching).
There is more detail on
my music magazine.
8. Comparing my magazine and my preliminary task it is obvious to me that over the course my
skills have improved. I can now confidently use Photoshop, including airbrushing an image,
adjusting the contrast and saturation of an image and its brightness. I also understand how to
use the layers in Photoshop and use stokes and increase or decrease the amount of space in
between text.
From taking photographs for my music magazine I have learned a lot about how lighting works
and the ideal lighting to take a professional standard photo. I have learned how to construct a
detailed magazine.
