What is MDM ?
 MDM solutions enable organizations to manage master data from disparate
systems and sources ( like excel / SharePoint) into a central repository. This
consolidation helps eliminate duplicate, inconsistent, and inaccurate data,
ensuring a single version of truth for master data.
 MDM solutions provide capabilities to standardize master data, resolving
inconsistencies, errors, and redundancies. Data quality rules and validation
processes can be applied to ensure high-quality master data.
 MDM solutions support data governance practices by establishing data
ownership, roles, and responsibilities. They provide workflows and tools for
data stewardship, allowing designated individuals or teams to manage and
maintain the integrity of master data.

 SAP standard solution doesn’t offer out of box capabilities for Master data management and governance
 Business rules cannot be enforced with sap standard solution.
 No segregation of duties. Access to master data screens cannot be controlled by role or a business function.
 No workflow and approval capabilities to manage master data. This could result in serious data breach effecting
overall business processes.
 SAP screens / transactions to manage master data are very clunky and complex to use. This has an direct impact on
time taken to market product.
 Parallel processing of master data is not possible. This again adds to overall time it takes to create/amend data.
 Additional master data attributes as required for business cannot be easily added to SAP standard master data
object without heavily customising SAP.
 No standard capabilities to manage end to end master data processes. This is mainly managed via emails /
SharePoint.
