13. Facebook: Personal Profile vs Fan page
Personal Profile
• made for individuals
• must be “friends” to
view & engage
• you cannot use this for
your business according
to Facebook’s Terms of
Service
BUT ...
14. • you can share your Page’s status updates to your
Personal Profile
• you can “promote” (paid Facebook newsfeed ad)
those shared status updates to gain more visibility
• you can add a clickable link to your company’s Fan
Page
• with the new Newsfeed format (as of March 8th), it
may be more important to share in your personal
profile to be more visible
16. How to Add your Fan Page link to your Personal Profile
• Go to your ABOUT section
• Under WORK AND EDUCATION click <EDIT>

18. House Rules or Guidelines for your Fan Page
“House Rules” outline what is acceptable for others to post on your
Page. Post them as an App/Landing Page or in your About
section.
Deleting posts is definitely not advisable but there are exceptions.
• Protect your fans from spam, commercial solicitations, and
hostile or discriminatory behaviour
• Make your brand a socially responsible company – do not delete
negative feedback but you CAN delete inappropriate behaviour

21. Scheduling Status Updates (Posts)
• plan and create Facebook posts according to
your content strategy
• schedule in bulk to save time
• post updates when your fans
are most likely to be on Facebook
= better engagement
22. Scheduling Status Updates (Posts)
• Create your status update
• Instead of clicking “post”,
click the little clock icon first
• Set year, month, day, hour, minute
• You can also back-date posts so they appear in the past on your
timeline – good for adding your company history or milestones
23. “Recent Posts by Others”
How to make “recent posts by others” visible on
your Facebook Page wall (timeline) – Note: this is
a setting in your Manage Permissions section
• if you accidentally post as you instead of your
Fan Page
• make visible or highlight posts by others
• check for spam
26. The most commonly broken Facebook rules
1. Use a 3rd party app – do not post a contest on your
page
2. Do not use Facebook features to enter the contest (ie.
“like” this page to enter; comment on this photo to
enter)
3. Do not use Facebook features as a voting mechanism
(ie. liking a photo)
4. Do not use Facebook to notify the winner
27. Create Facebook Contests Using Apps
You can read more about Facebook contest rules here:

usage by 2014.
• Over 1/3 of Facebook's users access Facebook Mobile; 50% of
Twitter's users use Twitter Mobile.
• 1 in 5 smartphone users scan product barcodes, and nearly 1 in
8 compare prices on their phone while in a store.

buying were influenced by smartphones.

33. Local Search – Facebook Places
• More people are searching for you on their mobile and want to
find you NOW – the time between intent and action is shorter with
mobile customers
• good for Search Engine Optimization – local gets precedence
• show up on maps (Google, Bing, Mapquest)
• map on your Facebook page
• claim your page and manage it – prevent someone else from
claiming YOUR place page
• BUT Places show up AFTER Pages in a Facebook search
34. Facebook Place vs Facebook Page
• has a map (an app and in the About section)
• can show open hours and address
• shows up on Bing map
• can get customer recommendations that show up on your
timeline
35. Facebook Place vs Facebook Page

store hours
