Our main objectives were to quantify the seasonal variability of the litterfall of these two species and to determine their decay rates on the forest floor. We were also interested in nutrient releases during decomposition processes, as well as the evolution of the δ13C values and the content of some trace metals.

Fortunately, these areas were subsequently reforested since 1978
Nowadays, Can Gio mangrove forest area covers approximately 32,125 ha of mangrove forests including 23,508 ha of interior forest and 8,617 ha of mixed forest
the soil carbon stocks were significantly different between the different stands
soil carbon stocks increased with the elevation gradient, with higher values in the inner forest
- The reforestation program started in 1978 (Hong and San, 1993)
- MacKenzie et al., (2016) determined an average vertical accretion rate of around 0.99 cm yr-1
CO2 concentrations were higher in the daytime at low tide than in the daytime at high tide. This result may be related to the higher CO2 emmission from soil at low tide than CO2 emmission from water column at high tide.
The highest CO2 concentrations were determine at night in May, which related to the period of highest CO2 emissions from soils and trunks due to the high temperature and beginning of the rainy season.
