Information & Library Services
For today’s sessions we will introduce you (virtually)
to the library team. As a library we may do things a
bit differently from other libraries that you are
familiar with, so we will go through our support and
services and what you can expect from us. We will
then highlight some of our databases and help you
navigate our website and the university’s library
catalogue. Finally, we finish off with some additional
things we have in the library for your relaxation.
3. welcome!
Welcome! If you have not been welcomed enough,
welcome again. We are so excited that you chose
Cambridge Judge to study here for the next year or
two years. This is a very young school in a very old
institution so you will have some interesting
contrasts but also get the best of both worlds. We
know that some of you have travelled long
distances, did anyone come through Kings Cross?
4. https://flic.kr/p/dCXbdV
Did you find your platform all right? You
may have seen this on your way in. We
have a bit of a Harry Potter theme going
on here because we think this place is
pretty magical…
6. • Stairs cjbs
We think this building is pretty magical.
We swear these stairs move at night
because they never go where you think
they will.
7. But we don’t just want you to take our word for it. Here are some of our 2018 students to
tell you how great the library service is here (only minimal bribery was applied). Link
address: https://youtu.be/25WNQun6Zrc
8. your information & library services team
Ange Andrew Katie
Sarah Natasha Melendra Lauren
9. your information & library services team
Ange Andrew Katie
Sarah Natasha Melendra Lauren
Ange is the Head
Librarian and is the one
who negotiates all of our
database agreements
while keeping an eye on
all the latest trends.
Andrew is our Deputy
Librarian who oversees
the physical space. He
has a real interest in
space design, so we have
beanbags, standing desks
and all sorts of work
spaces.
Katie is the Research
Support Librarian. She is
also the dedicated
distance learning
librarian and supports
those courses.
Sarah, Natasha, Melendra, and Lauren are our Librarian Assistants who you will find in
the Information Centre. They do the real library work of buying books, compiling
books lists, and answering enquiry questions. Each one of is able to answer any
research questions you might have and point you in the right direction.
10. a library service like no other
Photo by Daniel Monteiro on Unsplash
So, what is a library service like no other?
11. personalised
Image by Matthias Wewering from Pixabay
It’s all about you. We don’t see you as a cookie cutter student. We work closely with your
course teams so we know what your year looks like. No journey is the same and we
recognize that. So, when you reach out to us, we will respond with a personalized answer.
12. fast
We are fast. Maybe not this fast, but we are fast. We will
try to respond to your question as soon as possible. If you
have a more in depth question, it may take us a bit more
time to research, but we will let you know when you can
expect to hear from us.
14. …seamlessly

And we try to ensure that our service is as seamless as
possible. Either on a laptop, tablet, or smart phone – it
should be the same experience across any device.
16. Databases (AP)
access to more data than you’ll ever have again
Photo by Dennis Kummer on Unsplash
While you are students here, you will probably have more
access to information than you have ever had before –
please take advantage of it. We aren’t going to go through
every database on our list because that will be boring but
we will highlight a few of our most popular.
17. You have access to the Financial Times. You can create your own individual account with your
@cam email address that you can access online and through the app. The FT is a great way to
stay informed on current events and developing trends.
18. We have Mintel, well some of it. Mintel is great for looking at fast moving consumer goods
focused on the retail and technology sectors in the UK and Europe. This includes the raw data
behind the analysis. There is also Mintel Market sizes for data on consumer information.
19. Standard and Poor’s Capital IQ is great for financial information. This is the one database that
works on a separate account. If you have missed the email or forgotten your password, not to
worry, you can hit the Forgot Password link and your username is your @jbs.cam.ac.uk address.
Capital IQ covers about 98% of global market cap, along with detailed financial information. You
can even screen companies by employee size, location, or industry classification.
20. Probably one of our most student requested databases – Statista. Statista gives you a range of
statistics on demographics and consumer information. It has colourful infographics that you can
include in your reports. So, if you want to know how many people are using Apple’s apps over
Android’s visit Statista.
21. Business Source® Ultimate
Business Source Ultimate is the premier scholarly peer-reviewed journal provider. Many articles
that are linked to in your reading list will bring you to this database. It is a great place to start
researching your assignments. These articles are an invaluable resource to backup your real
world findings.
22. Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash
Just to recap: if you are looking for
financial information regarding a
company or a broker report on a
particular compaly, then these financial
databases are the place to look. The
only two databases not available
remotely are Eikon and Bloomberg.
Four terminals of each database can be
found on the ground floor of the
Information Centre.

industry and markets...
Euromonitor Passport • IBIS World
Marketline • Mintel • Statista
If you are interested in a particular
industry or need to do market research,
then the databases below are a great
place to start. You can find reports on
night clubs to investment banking that
cover an overview of the industry, the
competitive landscape, and major
competitors. There are also in-depth
company and country reports.
24. ejournals
Business
Source
Ultimate
(EBSCO)
ABI Inform
(ProQuest)
The University of Cambridge is
renowned for its research and as part of
your assignments you will be expected
to read academic articles that are
considered the highest calibre of
research. Most of the major business
and finance journals are included in
these two databases – including
Harvard Business Review (psst… it’s in
Business Source Ultimate.
26. Access to our databases is from our
website which can be found here:
https://www.jbs.cam.ac.uk/faculty-
research/information-library-
services/databases/. Or Google “CJBS
Databases”.

access anywhere
(provided you have
your Raven
password)
You have been given a load of
information today and in the days
following. If there is nothing else you
remember, please be sure to remember
your Raven ID and password. This will
give you access to most of the
databases and the VLE. So it is
important that you keep it safe and
memorized!
28. academic use
only
https://flic.kr/p/7EtvYA
Now for the one bit of serious information: (1) the subscriptions for these databases are for
academic use only. The terms and conditions of our licenses make it clear that you use of a
database is to support work that you will be evaluated on in your course. This means that you
can’t play the stock market or build you own mini empire. Usage on these databases is
tracked, so if there is something that looks fishy the vendors will contact us. We have sent
around a sheet for you to sign to say that you understand and agree to these terms. (2) In
addition, there are limits to how many reports you can download in a given time. We suggest
that you do not download more than 20 reports in a 24-hour period of time. If a warning
should appear, please stop downloading because the database will be shut down for the
entire university. (3) If you want to share reports that you have found in a database, please
share the link and not the PDF, as this breaks copyright law. And finally, your Raven ID and
password is meant for your own personal use, please do not share it with another person.
29. tour time
https://flic.kr/p/7a1pmx
It’s time for the tour of our website and
the university’s library catalogue:
iDiscover. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact us at
infolib@jbs.cam.ac.uk.
30. social media expertise
https://flic.kr/p/s98dqU
As a library we like to provide as much support as possible and that extends to social media. We
are social media experts. We were the first department in the school to set up a Twitter account
and have advised many of the departments in the school. We provide Twitter training to students
that are evaluated on their social media use in their coursework.
31. twitter for pleasure
or businesshttps://flic.kr/p/9VF4ub
If you are interested in learning more about Twitter or about moving from a more
personalized account to a business one, we can help. On the other hand, we can also provide
support if you want to use Twitter as a resource for your research projects.
32. https://flic.kr/p/nfvnxt
LinkedIn or left out
book a 1-2-1 consultation
I am sure most, if not all of you, have a LinkedIn profile. We can provide helpful tips and
personalized advice on your LinkedIn profile. This is a really popular service we provide to our
students so if you would like any help, do get in touch. We can set up a time to meet face-to-
face, or via Skype or if you are really crunched for time, over email.

a great way to keep in touch and share
We aren’t just on Twitter, but also on Facebook and Instagram. Our handle across all platforms is
@CJBSInfoLib. It’s a great way to keep in touch with us when you are out on your projects. It will
give you a behind the scenes snapshot of the weird and wonderful world of librarians.
34. spotify
https://flic.kr/p/oNQ12h
We also have a Spotify account because… why not? There is a Creative Arts elective on the MBA
program that has a “reading list” on Spotify so you can listen along with them.
35. • pizza
If you follow us on at least one of our social media channels by the end of October, you will be
entered to win a £20 gift voucher to a restaurant near you. We love our shameless bribery.
36. help is always given to those who ask for it…
Photo by Claudio Hirschberger on Unsplash
This is a lot of information to take in all at once, but we hope the one thing you take away from
today is that we are always here to help, so please don’t suffer in silence. We are available
throughout your program.
37. 1-2-1 and small group teaching
If you have a tricky research question or you want to know how to use a database better, then
get in touch and we can set up time to meet one-to-one or in a small group. If you are working
remotely, we arrange a time to Skype and screenshare as well.
38. information before
your interview
Your course has just started, but you may already be thinking about the future. We can help you
prepare for your next interview. You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips, probably
more than the next job candidate and we can help you access that information. In the past, we
have helped students who have a week or so to prepare for their job interview, but we have also
handed students information as they are running to catch the train. Whatever helps.
39. referencing support
The University of Cambridge has a reputation for outstanding research and it takes this
reputation very seriously. Referencing is an important part of research and we can help. While
we can’t review your references because they are part of your evaluation, we can answer any
questions you might have and provide support with the referencing management software
Zotero. There will be another training session dedicated to Academic Integrity and Referencing.
40. Photo by Allie Smith on Unsplash
look out for our teaching
term card
We are offering drop in sessions on tools that students frequently used. These sessions will be
scattered throughout Michaelmas and will include extra support for referencing, in-depth
Google searching and more. For our distance learners, if there is something that a number of
you are interested in, we can certainly provide a webinar or video for you to access or find a
time when you are next at the Judge to meet.
41. bonus features
Photo by Patrick Fore on Unsplash
And like every good ending, we have some bonus features. These are the little extras that we
provide that will hopefully make your year a little more relaxing.
42. need power?
tablets
phones
MacBook
Microsoft Surface
We live in a connected world
powered by electricity. We have
chargers for you to borrow for
Macbook Pros, Microsoft
Surfaces, iPhones, and Androids.
And, for those traveling from
abroad, plug adaptors for when
your technology dies on you.
43. kick back with our dvd
collection
If you haven’t noticed it already, we have a pretty decent DVD collection in the Library with all
the latest releases. If you are feeling a bit stressed and want to unwind, try one of our DVDs.
And, for those of you with newest laptops…
44. no dvd player? no problem!
…we have DVD players that you can borrow, so you aren’t left out.
45. relax with a book
If a movie doesn’t do the trick, then we have our fiction collection for a bit of light reading. Or
try our boost collection that includes some helpful life advice, sweary words, and healthy
recipes. But, don’t forget our Weird Ideas and Disruptive Thinking section that includes the
latest trends in business and entrepreneurship.
46. board games
for strategy
If you are tired of the pubs and want a night in with friends, try our selection of board games. Of
course, these are used for strategy, but also just for having some fun.
47. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®
enhance innovation with
hands on learning
We have Lego Serious play kits for borrowing. Lego Serious Play is a teaching method used for
team-building and problem-solving. If you have a tough problem, you can try solving it with
some Lego and your hands. Ange and Andrew are Seriously Play facilitators so if you are
interested in learning more about the method or just want to play with some Lego it is available.
48. We realize that not everyone studies the same way. Spacefinder is a website put together by
Cambridge librarians to help researchers find the ideal place to study. There are over 125
libraries in Cambridge and countless coffee shops and cafes. So, if you are looking for a
historically inspiring setting that has Wifi and is quiet, plug that into Spacefinder and it will
provide you with places to try out. Just Google “Spacefinder Cambridge” and it should come up.
49. success
…And this is what we want to be doing at the end of your course – toasting to your success. This
is an exciting year or two and we hope that you make the most out of Cambridge and the Judge
Business School.
