This document discusses managing asset information throughout the entire lifecycle of an asset, from initial planning through operations and maintenance. It describes how assets can be uniquely identified using an asset tag system. An asset register is used to track asset information, components, and related documentation from the start of a project through handover at the end of construction. Managing asset data in a centralized cloud-based system allows all related information to be linked and collaboratively accessed.

Asset Tag
•Tag – the specific duty of an Asset
•e.g. Drainage Pump 1
•Equipment – the actual physical item performing the duty of a Tag
•e.g. Acme Model B Pump
•Serial – an individual instance of Equipment or Batch
•e.g. 12345
•Functional Unit – a collection of Tags that work together as a system
•e.g. Drainage Pumping Station

Problem: Asset Information Plan, Tasks, Submissions &
Deliverables Tracking
I am joined here by Sandeep Jain from the EMT team and also Elwira Limanowska from the ATC joint venture working on the C610 contract for Crossrail.
We have 3 way presentation.
I’m going to tell you What, Elwira will tell you the why and Sandeep will cover the How.
So, we need to identify an asset throughout its lifecycle.
Before i do that, let me clarify what i mean as an asset.
An asset is a physical thing that delivers a service.
It can also be a group, made up of many assets that deliver a function
This definition goes down to the maintainable level, so doesn't include the components of the asset.
We group assets in four levels.
At the top is a complex
Next is a facility
Below that is our functional group called an Enitity
Finally we have Elements.
An Element is part of an Entity, which is part of a Facility, which is part of a complex.
Each of these assets needs a unique identifier, like we have a passport number.
N.B. a Tag is not the same as a label!!
This is called an Asset Tag made up of 4 parts.
Location, Classification, Function and a numeric identifier.
Static details as well as live information as to where the asset is in its lifecycle
This means I can track it from cradle to grave, through all the phases of its life.
Tags can be applied at Entity level during concept phase
Element during detailed design
They can represent temporary works during construction whilst components and other information are added to the asset database
And are the link from the 6D model to the operations and maintenance system.
