Keynote presenter for the annual Fauri Memorial Lecture: “Credentials and Competencies for
Child Welfare Best Practices.” The keynote presentation addressed the transformation
of Michigan's child welfare workforce, the national debate about whether a social
work degree is the appropriate degree for a child welfare worker, and perspectives
on how universities can best prepare students for a career as a child welfare worker
(2009).
STATE COURT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE- CHILD WELFARE SERVICES:
Co-developed curricula for Department of Human Services and private agency caseworkers;
collaborated with the Department of Human Services and the University of Michigan Law School
to offer training; developed a “Thursday Luncheon Webcast Series” that featured topics
including “Court-Agency Collaboration in Child and Family Services Reviews”; chaired planning
committees and partnered with other entities to provide trainings on topics including,
“Addressing the Developmental Needs of Infants and Young Children in the Court System,” and
“Substance-Affected Children in the Court System;” chaired planning committee and organized
annual cross professional child welfare issues conference for 500-person audiences; developed
topical forums on “Children Missing From Care,” “Striving to Make Permanency Permanent,”
and the Indian Child Welfare Act; developed and implemented a “Summer Series on Child
Welfare Issues”; and developed other profession-specific and cross professional child welfare

SUBSTANCE ABUSE/CHILD WELFARE CORE TEAM: Member of workgroup of state
agency representatives that created a protocol entitled Screening, Assessment, and Family
Engagement for Retention and Recovery and developed a technical assistance event for tribal
courts, social services, and substance abuse treatment providers (June 2006-June 2008).
ABSENT PARENT PROTOCOL WORKGROUP: Facilitator of workgroup created to
revise the 2005 State Court Administrative Office Absent Parent Protocol; worked closely with
the Department of Human Services to refine the protocol to address deficiencies noted in the
2002 Child and Family Services Review; actively involved with Department of Human Services
personnel to develop the Power Point presentation and curriculum used by the
Child Welfare Training Institute to train Children’s Protective Services and foster care workers.

COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM ADVISORY STATEWIDE TASK FORCE:
Appointed by the State Court Administrative Office to serve on a collaborative cross-
professional statewide task force to implement programs in accordance with the 1997 Michigan
Court Improvement Program Assessment of Probate Court’s Handling of Child Abuse and
Neglect Cases and the 2005 reassessment (1998-1999 and 2005-present).

8. MICHIGAN HUMAN TRAFFICKING TASK FORCE: Member of statewide task force
created to facilitate a collaborative effort to prevent trafficking of persons within the state of
Michigan, to pursue prosecution of perpetrators, and to protect and rehabilitate trafficking
victims (April 2013- April 2014).
CHILD WELFARE IMPROVEMENT TASK FORCE: Appointed member of task force
created to examine the child welfare system and determine the best outcomes for vulnerable
children and their families and to recommend specific actions for the Department of Human
Services and its partners to ensure those outcomes are achieved (May 2008-June 2009).
SUBSTANCE ABUSE/CHILD WELFARE STATE TEAM AND CORE TEAM: Member
of cross professional statewide group to promote state and local community collaborations
among substance abuse treatment providers, child welfare agencies, and the judiciary (January
