Arsenic Apple Juice
By: Chandler Wicke
The Arsenic Apple Juice Process
• We get a majority of our apples from China
which are sprayed with pesticides that
contain Arsenic and then these apples are
pressed and become apple concentrate
which turns into the typical apple juice we
drink.
• Other apple concentrates are imported from
other countries such as Argentina and Brazil
etc.
2 forms of Arsenic found in
Apple Juices
• 1. Inorganic-harmful forms
• 2. Organic-harmless
• (DMA-dimethylarsinic acid and MMA-
monomethylarsonic acid have been found to
be a health concern)
• High levels of Arsenic aren’t only found in
apple concentrate but are also found in juice
blends, different kinds of candies, cakes and
cereals that people consume everyday.
Who is this effecting? Why is it
happening?
• Children mostly & everyday consumers
• Apple juice is the second most common drink
families give their children growing up after
milk.
• The media portrays apple juice as healthy and
good for children.
• This is happening because other countries like
China, Argentina and Brazil all have different
Arsenic water regulations and different
regulations for the amount of pesticides they
can spray on fruits.
Shocking Discovery
• The EPA regulates how much Arsenic is in our
drinking water but doesn’t regulate how much
Arsenic is in our apple juice… How is this
allowed?
• The FDA only looks at around 2% of these
imported foods that come from outside countries
which means their not doing their jobs!
• Children under the age of six are drinking more
than eight ounces of apple juice per day so the
FDA is doing a poor job of estimating the amount
of juice children are drinking really drinking.
