3. What is Communication?
Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another or one person to another.
What a Dictionary says about Communication - a process by which information is exchanged between individuals
through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior

• Spoken or Verbal Communication: face-to-face, telephone, radio or
television and other media.
• Non-Verbal Communication: body language, gestures,
how we dress or act - even our scent.
• Written / Visualizations: graphs and charts, maps, logos
and other visualizations can communicate messages.
7. Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is the use of sounds and words to express yourself, especially in contrast to
using gestures or mannerisms.
Individuals working within a business need to effectively use verbal communication that employs
readily understood spoken words, as well as ensuring that the enunciation, stress and tone of voice
with which the words are expressed is appropriate.

Nonverbal communication is the nonlinguistic transmission of information through visual,
auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic channels.
It includes the use of visual cues such as body language, distance and physical
environments/appearance, of voice and of touch.

Communication is a process of interchanging information, ideas, feelings and opinions,
with or without use of words i.e signals.
The process of communication can be understood using a model known as the
‘Encoding/Decoding’ model.
The Encoding/Decoding model has several parts: source/sender, encoding, message
channel, receiver, decoding and feedback.

communication, along with oral/spoken communication. Written
