MICRO HISTORY
TIMELINE
URBAN GRAIN
COARSE GRAIN
Coarse grain act as a barrier for
all but those who are there for a
specific purpose. Large singular
office blocks intended to assert
dominance and control over the
street, in return turns inward
and pushes away the
surrounding community.
URBAN TYPOLOGY
POINT FORM
High rise buildings with single
building configuration embodies
the integrity of the company, it
is built with the intention to limit
accessibility to the public as it
only caters to a specific user
group.
EDGES
NATURAL EDGES
The typology created and
existing Klang River creates
hard edge that gives a
boundary for our micro site.
SOFT EDGE CREATED BY THE
SURROUNDING AMBIANCE
Jalan Ampang gives different
ambiance at different time. The
night ambiance is more lively
compare to the morning and
evening side. It segregates the
microsite, where the sense of
community is more apparent at
night.
PARKING AREA
Existing car park areas creates
a soft edge and promotes
pedestrian walkability, activating
the alleys and building between
the soft edges.
MAIN TRANSPORTATION
ROUTE
Tun Razak highway that cuts
vertically creates hard edge that
creates a visual boundary
between the west and east side
of the site.
ALLEYWAY SEPARATION
Soft edge created by alleyways
that separates the building.

CONCLUSION
At night, there are lesser activities going on in the City Centre that enhances the culture and bond of the surrounding community. Few activities
can be mention which are Tapak, Zouk, etc. but that is only suitable for the youngsters.
Bring in activities to make the area more lively at night.
● Weekly or monthly night festival
Interesting ideas to enhance the night ambiance in Jalan Ampang.

CIRCULATION
WEEKDAYS 0800
The office workers come to
work in the area. As most of
them take the LRT or bus, there
are lesser car around in the
morning.
WEEKDAYS 1200
The vehicular density increases
during lunch time, but is still
considered low due to the
inconveniences in finding
parking in the area.
WEEKDAYS 1900
At night, this area have higher
vehicular density. Most of the
office workers travel back home
after office hour. On the other
hand, it can be observed that
there are also people who
come for dinner and grocery
shopping with family.
WEEKENDS 0800
WEEKENDS 1200
WEEKENDS 1900
During weekends, throughout
the day, traffic density is low.
Due to the office district, people
only come here for work.
Families and tourists are the
one around during weekend.
USER GROUP,
NODES, PATH
CONCLUSION
Encourage more walking (public transport) than driving (traffic jam).
People tend to gather at the place that have food.
Passageway are encouraged to be design within the site for the transition user group to spark their interest against the cultural hub when they
pass by the site.
Weekdays have more transitional user, hence instead of only opening on weekdays, the cultural hub is encouraged to be function on weekends
too, as the office workers (the most of user group) can bring their families to the cultural hub.

CONCLUSION
Encourage observation deck to be designed towards the direction where the landmarks or better views can be seen to emphasis iconic
architecture at the site.
Avoid observation deck to be designed facing crossroad junction due to traffic jam.
Ampang park Shopping Centre, as a major landmark and was the essence of our micro site has now been demolished. The cultural hub could
become one of the new landmark at the site, and also involve in the reinvention of genius loci of the site that had been created by the Ampang
Park Shopping Centre.

UBBL
Clause 140. Fire appliance access
All buildings in access of 7000 cubic metres shall abut upon a street or road or open space of
not less than 12 metres width and accessible to fire brigade appliances. The proportion of the
building abutting the street, road or open space shall be in accordance with the following scale.
Volume of building in cubic meter
Minimum proportions of perimeter
of building
7000 to 28000 one-sixth
28000 to 56000 one-fourth
56000 to 84000 one-half
84000 to 112000 three-fourths
12000 and above Island site
Area = 3674.25m2
Based on UBBL Clause 140, given a land size of 367.42m2, with a cultural hub of 5 storey (20m2).
3674.25m2 x 20m2 = 73485m2
Falling into the range of 56000-84000, the proportion of perimeter of building needed is one-half.
Therefore,
