5. Our mission here in the state is to advance sustainable buildings and communities that improve the
quality of life in Ohio.
There are over 4,000 LEED certified commercial and residential projects in Ohio, amounting to a total of
more than 149 million square feet. Representing the full range of the building sector, including builders,
product manufacturers, professional firms, and real estate, over 400 Ohio-based organizations and
individuals are USGBC members, and close to 5,000 individuals in Ohio hold a LEED professional
credential.
Community Overview
• OHIO is #1 GLOBALLY in green schools! Thanks to the leadership of
the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission that requires all new
builds and significant renovations to be LEED Silver or above.
• OHIO is #7 NATIONALLY in green homes! Thanks to the leadership
of USGBC Ohio and municipalities around Ohio (especially the City
of Cincinnati) that are offering tax abatements for green buildings.
Ohio’s top five LEED cities are:
• Cleveland, with 490 projects
• Cincinnati, with 479 projects
• Columbus, with 460 projects
• Dayton, with 172 projects
• Toledo, with 106 projects
