Executive Summary:
This how-to-guide is to illustrate the steps needed for the Group Currency
Conversion functionality in the BPC 10.0 NW. We will use front end web user
interface, Logic Script and Data Manager in EPM Office Add-in Excel.

In this document you will learn the following:

How to do the currency translation for a GROUP, which is technically a
SCOPE member.

LEGAL ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
We need to define the legal organization structure before we start configuring the
system for Group Currency Conversion process. For our exercise, we will use the
following structure:

Business Scenario:

GROUP CURRENCY CONVERSION:

At the end of every closing period, accounts of different entities are rolled up to
their respective groups. Because entities report their accounts in Local Currency, it
is essential for companies having international operations to convert these accounts
from local currencies into Group Currency/Currencies (which is a reporting
currency) and populate these converted values to the respective Groups.

Group Currency Conversion is required for the financial consolidation process that
is performed at the end of every closing period. Group currency conversion process
is performed as a part of data preparation phase.

Group conversion is also required for managerial consolidation.

In BPC 10.0 we can run Group Conversion through Data Manager or
Consolidation Monitor
In BPC 10.0, Group Conversion could be performed alone or together with
Consolidation.

RATE_TYPE: This property stores the type of rate at which currency translation
takes place for a specific account. Each rate type is member ID of the R_ACCOUNT
dimension and also defined under Currency Translation business rule.

This property takes values such as “AVG”, “CLO”, “HIST”, and “END” for
consolidation model and “FX” for Rate Model

IS_CONVERTED: This specifies the members that are to be included in the
currency translation process. The values this property can take is “Y”, “N”, “G” or
Blank.

Y (or Blank)-These members are converted from LC into the desired currency.
N- These members are ignored in the currency translation process.
G- These members are entered in a reporting currency and translated to group
currency.

DATASRC_TYPE (for Group Dimension): This property can take three values- “I”
(Input), “M” (Manual) and “A” (Eliminations and Adjustments).

CURRENCY_TYPE: This identifies whether a group member should be valued at
the “G” (Group) currency or “N” (Local) currency.

ENTITY and STORE_ENTITY: If ENTITY is filled with a valid entity member
and STORE_ENTITY is set to “Y”, the currency translation results are also copied
into this Entity.

These properties create OUTCOME 3

STORE_GROUP_CURR: If set to “Y”, Group Currency Conversion also results in
currency conversion for the group members. In other words results will also be
written to group members.

When set to “Y” or Blank, this property creates OUTCOME 1. If “N” or
blank, data is not written to individual group members.

GROUP_CURRENCY: This identifies the currencies at which a group is valued.
This can take more than one value separated by a comma.

PARENT_GROUP: This identifies the group members that are to be used in the
Ownership Manager. This property is also specified while creating an Ownership
Model under “Parent/Child Property Used for the Hierarchy of Groups”

CURRENCY_TYPE (for Reporting Currency Dimension): The values this property
can take are “T” for Transaction Currency, “R” for Reporting Currency and “L for
Local Currency.

REPORTING: This specifies whether a currency member could be used in
reporting. This property is set to “Y” for reporting currency members.

FX_TYPE: This property could be used in the currency translation business rule to
enforce a given set of rule for a specific entity.

Business Rule Table:

Business Rule table has to be configured both for group and entity
currency translation processes.

ID: This is the RATE_TYPE member.

Description: Describes the rule.

The Source Flow: It could be a base or parent member from Flow dimension. It
could also take a Dimlist property value to identify multiple flow members.

Destination Account: This account stores the converted value. If left blank,
destination account is the same as the source account.

Destination Flow: The Flow member that stores the converted value. If left
blank, destination flow is the same as the source flow.

Formula: This applies factor to source value. This can contain any arithmetic
expression involving the members of Rate Model’s Account dimension.

Force Closing: If checked, system will write a value into the CLOSING balance as
an additional record.

Periodic Calc: This is used with YTD models when currency translation should
be performed on periodic values. If checked, only the difference between the current
and prior period values are translated as per FORMULA.

Entity FX Type: This is used to configure entity specific rule. If this rule has a
value then the rule will be applied to the entities having a matching value in the
property “FX_TYPE”

Logic and Data Manager:

Logic for Balance Carry Forward Process

The Data Manager uses the process chain /CPMB/FX_RESTATMENT and executes
the logic contained in the file FXTRANS.LGF. The .LGF file name could be changed by
modifying script in the data manager.

Logic Script is not required to be configured if Group Currency
Conversion process is run through Consolidation Monitor.

Report: We will look at the reports later when we will run group conversion
process.

Step # 1: Create and populate dimensions for all three models.

Step # 2: Create models and attach dimensions to the models.

Step # 3: Create business rule.

Step # 4: Create logic script to invoke the Group Currency Conversion
process

(Step # 4 and Step # 5 are required only if the Group Currency Conversion is
executed through data manager package)

Step # 6: Create input schedule for the Rate Model and load data

with necessary task profile access that can create Model/Dimension and other
building blocks)

PARENT_GROUP is S_World, which identifies members to be used in the Ownership
Manager.

Conversion:

Step 1: Go to the “Logic Scripts” under Administration interface and select the
Consolidation Model

Step 2: Select New.

Step 3: Enter FXTRANS and click on Create.

Step 4: Enter the following code:

Validate, Save and Close the logic window.

Create Data Manager Package:

Step 1: Click “EPM Office Add-in Excel” under Home interface

This will open the excel interface.

Step 2: Select the Ownership Model and press OK

Step 3: Go to “Data Manager.” Click on “Organize” and select “Organize Package” list.

Step 4: Click on “Package” and select “Add Package Group”.

Step 5: Enter a package group name and press OK

Step 6: Select the newly created package group. Click on “Package” and select “Add
Package”.

Step 7: Click on Select.

Step 8: Select Business Planning & Consolidation script logic on the left and
/CPMB/FX_RESTATEMENT on the right. This is the process chain for Currency
Conversion rule. Press OK.

Step 9: Give package name and description, and check relevant task type. Press Save.

Step 10: The package has been added. Close the window.

Create Input Schedule and Load Data for Rate Model
Open Exchange Rate model in Excel, by selecting change connection under active
connection drop down and create the following input schedule.
Enter and save the data.

Indirect exchange rate is being used snce MD property in the INPUTCURRENCY
dimension is set as “M”.

Configure Ownership Manager for Ownership Hierarchy:

Step 1: Go to the Ownership Manager under Consolidation Central, Select the
Consolidation Model for Group Conversion and Press Edit.

(Just consider Consolidation_2 same as Consolidation_GC)

Step 2: Select the Context as “Actual”, “ Dec 2007” and “S_World”

We are selecting S_World because it is a Parent Group.

Step 3: Selct South America Group and Press Add.

Step 4: It will dislay Entity dimension members .Select Brazil and Argentina
because these are members of South America Group. Press OK.

This will bring the entities under South America Group as folows:

Step 4: Populate other Groups as follows:

Because we are doing Group Currency Conversion only for South America Group, it
is not required to configure the hierarchy for other groups. Group Conversion for
South America will work, even if other Groups are not configured in the ownership
manager.

Also there is no need to run “Ownership Calculation” for Group Currency
Convesrsion process. These calculations ae required for Consolidation process.
