Interoperability
Ability of different information systems, devices, and
applications to access, exchange, integrate and
cooperatively use data in a coordinated manner across
organizational boundaries. This ability is predicated on
and enabled by industry adopted standards.

Humana’s focus on developing modern APIs,
early adoption of FHIR, direct integrations
with leading EMRs, view that LHRs are
“longitudinal human records,” and efforts to
push CMS and the industry towards a higher
standard of interoperability give it a
competitive advantage relative to other

2020 Humana Interoperability Platform Successes
Home Health Aids (HHA) have access to patient allergy
and medications
Humana Interoperability Platform’s Medication ProfileAPI provides
up-to-date medications and allergies for HHA’s to have at their
fingertips when visiting patients in their homes (currently telehealth
due to Covid)
This enables HHA’s to prioritize their time with the patientfocused on
their treatment, instead of collecting administrativeinformation
Automatically identifies Humana Members eligible for enhanced
population health workflows by value-based partner Sound Physicians
Humana Interoperability Platform’s Member Task Profile API
allows for real time Identification of Humana Members eligible
for participation in Humana’s Hospitalist Transitional Care Value-
Based Model
Member eligibility identification must occur upon hospital
admission, for Sound Physicians to deploy enhanced population
health workflows immediately upon hospital admission through
discharge and beyond

2020 Humana Interoperability Platform Successes
Watson AI Platform for Provider, Group, and Sales business segments
on digital and voice channels
Humana Interoperability Platform enabled sharing of Watson
Conversational Flow reporting events capturing conversation between
the User and Watson. This was enabled through the Event Framework
powered by Kafka.
Prior to adopting Humana Interoperability Platform, Splunk was
leveraged to enable this business value, but because of instability
of the environment and limitations of the technology, business
wasn’t able to react quickly enough.
This enables Business to build customer focused end to end journeys
across the Watson AI experience
Member Experience Real-time Insights
Humana
Adopting the Humana Interoperability
Platform and leveraging the Event
Framework has allowed us to realize
substantial gains in efficiency that have
allowed us to focus on gaining deeper
insights and intelligence in the data to
enhance our Provider’s experience.
……
Prior to adoption, obtaining detailed data to
evaluate Watson performance characteristics
relied on a process that was labor intensive
and also prone to failure.
