3. Layout Conventions
The main image is normally centred in the middle of the poster, it consist of at least one of the main characters
from the film. Our poster follows this as we positioned the hacker, in the middle of the poster. However, we also
challenged this convention by hiding his identity under code and making him translucent. As we wanted to keep
this mystery element throughout our marketing campaign.

convention,
but also
challenges
it.
4. The release date or ‘coming soon’ slogan is normally situated at the bottom of the poster. We kept to this
convention but also challenged it by changing it to ‘uploading soon’ instead of ‘coming soon’. As we thought the
wording would suit the theme of the film (and poster) better.
Layout Conventions
5. Next, we found out that the billing block is positioned above the release date or
‘coming soon’ slogan. We followed this convention by doing the same thing.
Layout Conventions
6. In my research, I found out that the actors names should be anywhere above the billing block. We found
that the names of the lead actors are randomly positioned in different posters. We positioned ours above
the title of the film, so that they won't obscure the main image.
Layout Conventions
7. We also found out that some movie posters have a slogan in bold at the top or bottom of the poster. We
challenged this convention by avoiding having a slogan on our poster. Instead, we were really inspired by the
movie poster for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. As it uses code to form the main image. While having hidden words
within this code. So we covered our image in black code and placed hint’s of the film’s narrative in red text.
Layout Conventions
8. Lastly we followed other conventions such as having the logos of the companies behind the film, below the
billing block. As well as having any online marketing links (such as a website), right at the bottom of the poster.
While following and challenging these conventions, we managed to represent the themes and narrative of our
film in the poster’s aesthetics.
