I have been working in construction for the last 10 years. Whilst in Ireland I completed my trade
in plumbing and plumbed for 7 years. During this time my work consisted of general service to
domestic new build, to industrial work. In the domestic side, it varied from new installations to
rebuilds including ground source heat pumps, solar panels and under floor heating. In the
industrial work I have worked on boiler and pipe installation in schools and churches. This
would have mostly included mild steel piping on the heating with large copper on the plumbing.
Here I would have greatly experienced threading and jointing of piping, oxy acetylene welding,
manual arc welding and oxy acetylene brazing. These projects would always be on timeframes
which would have to be met. While in Canada I worked with a major General Contractor. My
duties varied from skilled labourer, carpenter and labourer foreman. These were all major build
jobs including high rise apartments, police department and large grocery stores. Our teams varied
between 5 and 8 workers. I have recently completed a plant relocation in Limerick prison. This
consisted of four new boiler installs, mild steel piping up to 12” and Victaulic pipe work up to
6”. Currently I’m working as a pipefitter in Intel Ireland. This work includes stainless steel pipe
work for the new stocker tool installation in the sub-fab and main fab. This pipe work is high
purity stainless for nitrogen which requires very high standards of installation. This work is
carried out in clean room conditions with a high emphasis on safety. Here I have also completed
work on PVC , UPVC, copper breathing air and Helium pipe work.
