Xylometazoline (also known as xylomethazoline) is a
drug which is used as a topical nasal decongestant. It
is applied directly into the nose, either as a spray or as
                        drops

Xylometazoline is marketed under many brand
names with the typical adult solution strength being
0.1% w/v xylometazoline, and the dose for children
  under 12 being 0.05%
Mechanism of Action
• The drug works by
    constricting the blood vessels
    in the nose. The
    vasoconstriction means that
there is less pressure in the
    capillaries and less water can
filter out, thus less discharge is
made. (If the colour of the nasal
    passage is observed, it is
    visibly paler after dosage.)
• Xylometazoline is an imidazole
    derivative which is designed to
    mimic the molecular shape of
    adrenaline. It binds to
    alpha-adrenergic receptors in
    the nasal mucosa.
Xylometazoline Nasal spray is used for:

• Nasal congestion
• Common cold
• Sinusitis
• Nasal allergies (allergic rhinitis)
• Xylometazoline is used to help clear the
stuffy, blocked up feeling in the nose
    and sinuses caused by colds
    and allergies such as hayfever.
Usage
• One spray should be used in each
nostril one to three times a day as
  necessary.
• The spray can be used for up to a week.

                 Storage Condition
• Keep all medicines out of the reach and
  sight of children.
• Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct
  heat and light.
Side effects
• Irritation of the nose
• Dryness inside the nose
Precautions
• Do NOT use Xylometazoline spray if
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
• If you have diabetes, high blood pressure,

• If you have ever had an allergic reaction to
this or to any other medicine.
• If you are taking any other medicines,
