I don’t want to have a kid who thinks ‘OK, I
want this and where can I buy it’, instead of ‘I
want this and how can I make it’ (maker,

7. Early entrepreneurial education
EC thematic working group (2016): “Entrepreneurship
education is about learners developing the skills and
mind-set to be able to turn creative ideas into
entrepreneurial action. This is a key competence for all
learners, supporting personal development, active
citizenship, social inclusion and employability”

8. DOIT project
CC BY 4.0 DOIT, http://DOIT-Europe.Net, H2020-770063 8
DOIT aims to collect, develop, publish and spread materials and
experiences for an early entrepreneurship education for
children from 6 to 16 that build upon social innovations within
makerspace settings.

Students get motivated by early
successes or by envisioning the
scope of their possibilities e.g.
Presenting/telling success stories

Students are asked to collect and
select potential ideas for
innovations
e.g. talking with relevant
stakeholders

bigger group of users, e.g.
testing the robustness of a

17. Pilot studies
• In 10 countries
• Involving 1,000 children
• Two pilot phases
• Minimum 15 contact hours

18. Evaluation design - Challenges
• Different languages
• Variety of interventions
• Age span
• Variety of dimensions
Based on Lackéus (2015):
Entrepreneurial attitudes: self-confidence, self-efficacy, sense
of initiative, ambiguity tolerance, perseverance;
Entrepreneurial skills: creativity, planning, financial literacy,
managing resources, managing uncertainty/risk, teamwork;

identifying with the role of an entrepreneurs – self-reflection,
how-to knowledge

19. Evaluation design
• Mixed method approach
• Pre and post test
• Control group
• Variety of instruments
– Self-rating survey (self-efficacy, ambuigity,
planning)
– Creativity test
– Interviews with children
– Interviews with facilitators

20. Outlook
• First pilots start in September 2018
• Testing evaluation instruments
• Translation in different languages
