Cloud-based management platforms are scalable, simplify maintenance efforts, reduce costs, and enable better service to end customers. - Incomplete coverage due to forbidden in-country roaming Unlike the US and Canada, many regions do not support in-country roaming for local SIMs, which can create undesirable grey zones in coverage. High roaming cost Out of country roaming cost is typically very high. Resistance to new technology Due to low incentive, MNOs often resist the adoption of new technologies like eUICC that empower the customer rather than the MNO. Improbable cross-carrier/ cross-alliance solutions: MNOs are unlikely to act as prime for a cross-carrier solution, especially solutions that cross MNO alliances. Inconsistent user experience when roaming A local MNO in one region may be perceived as the premier network, while the same MNO in an adjacent region could be considered the least desirable network. This can create brand reputation and user experience issues.
- Expensive local broadband service A roaming SIM will not achieve cost optimization for broadband plans as compared to local MNO prices and thereby not supporting use-case from eCall, Telematics to Infotainment. Not surely local: A typical roaming SIM will not support localized content and will route traffic through its home country’s network. This can degrade the user experience. Coverage limited to MNO alliances The coverage footprint is limited to existing MNO alliances. Compliance to telco regulatory : Meeting regulatory compliance in some countries (Brazil, China, …) which requires specific types of agreements and technical setup to provide services on a global SIM which remaining compliant is not possible.
