Abstract: What does leadership have to do with Data? Leading analyst firms often cite the success rate of data projects at less than 50%. And it’s no wonder why – Data Management Organization teams are constantly asked to plan and adapt new business initiatives to embed data management programs and principles in the outcomes. Software tools offer a promise to “manage” the data, and it’s easy to blame the tool when the project fails. However, success in data is less about managing and more about leading. In this presentation, First Sergeant Matt Eversmann (Ret.), recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, memorialized in the epic film Black Hawk Down and the co-author of The Battle of Mogadishu, will address a fundamental set of observations on leadership through adversity, cross-functional teams and difficult personalities. Beating the odds for data success requires leadership at every level to make the difference.
