This presentation provides information about aviation history, types of aircraft, and how to become a pilot. It includes:
1) Brief biographies of early aviation pioneers including Calbraith Perry Rodgers, the first person to fly across the US in 1911, and Nellie Zabel Willbite, the first deaf female pilot from 1892-1991.
2) Information about license requirements and costs for private pilot certificates in airplanes, gliders and light sport aircraft. A private pilot airplane certificate requires a medical certificate, 40 hours of flight time and costs around $6,850.
3) Definitions of light sport aircraft, which must have a maximum weight of 1320 pounds, cruise speed of

13. Here is How to Fly
Instructors teach how to fly. LOA
Hello, my name is Greg Lawrence and I am your Instructor today. The person who taught, the person who taught, the person who taught, the person who taught me to fly was Orville Wright at Huffman Prairie .My Great-Great-Grand-Instructor, Orville and his brother Wilber flew many gliders before they flew the 1903 version with a motor on it.The 1901 version didn’t have a rudder and Orville got hurt discovering adverse yaw.The 1902 version had a rudder and larger wings. Flew very well and the brothers put a motor on it for the 1903 version.
People who are Deaf have been contributing to aviation for over 100 years.
Cal Rodgers, Howard Hughes, Greg Lawrence and a few others didn't tell anyone they were deaf because they probably would not have been able to fly. Many Deaf came into aviation by climbing the fence instead of through a gate. Today with Light Sport Aviation and Motorgliders we are free to be Deaf aviators and use the gate.
People who are Deaf have distinct advantagesflying and in many other areas of life. We call that Deaf Gain as opposed to hearing loss. The advantages are in situational awareness, navigation, instrument flying and weather analysis due to spatial thinking and mental pictures.
Of course it is better to communicate on a CTAF radio and we are well advised to do so. However, the system of standard traffic patterns and altitudes was developed before radio communications (WWI) and has worked quite well for over 90 years.
Putting a motor on a glider does not change it’s category to airplane.Putting a motor on a glider makes it a self launched glider. In other words, a glider captures and utilizes the natural energy in the atmosphere to fly.Every airplane glides, only gliders soar.

Go fly and be aware of your favorite feeling. Hold that feeling as much as you can and then hold it more and more. Whatever your special feeling is when you fly – for me it is that moment when the wheels leave the ground. That feeling will attract more of its self. Money, life situations, time and any other issues in the way of attracting more of that feeling will dissolve away.
Push the throttle forward and step on the right rudder. Feel the power and push the stick forward to fly the tail. When the tail flies the angle of attack decreases and the acceleration is faster. Ease the stick back a little and there it is – the moment the wheels leave the ground. That is the sweetest moment there is. Three things make me happy – beauty, freedom and love. This moment is pure freedom.
