Magneto decides that the best way to provide his army of mutants access to the Worthington facility on Alcatraz Island is by moving the Golden Gate to suit his travel needs. The Golden Gate Bridge has costed $35 million.
Kinetic Analysis Corp., one of the leading disaster-cost prediction and assessment firms in the world has calculated that the damage caused in “The Avengers” film would cost $160 Billion
And at last but not least, in the Zack Snyder movie Man of Steel, the damages are estimated $750 billion worth of damage, with a total economic impact of $2 trillion.
To put the damage into context, the September 11th attacks cost $83 Billion, Hurricane Katrina cost $90 Billion, and the tsunami in Japan caused $122 Billion of damage.
Of course bad guys are the main cause of all the destruction, but there would have been no damages without our heroes. There are even some theories like the one we see in the The Dark Knight Returns where it is explained that the bad guys (nemesis and stuff, not small fry) are only there because of their opposition against the hero. In the comics Batman has retired from his role as vigilante and the Joker is in a catatonic state in Arkham Asylum. But the return of the hero will cause the Joker in the need to escape to face Batman again → bring super bad guys ex : Venom, a copy of Spiderman who cannot exist without his model or Eobard Thawne, a 25th century criminal who used the same experience Flash used to become the fastest man in the world → “turn bad” like Punisher and the Comedian, a former Minuteman : violent people, changed by the war etc...
Tool of gvt : Today, there are still wars around the world, and super heroes could be used by their government to ex : Dr Manhattan during Vietnam war, or even Captain America in WW2 → Used for propaganda : political ideas : they have more charisma than some (or a lot) politicians. So they could rally people to their cause, whatever this idea is. Ex: Red son, an alternate version of Superman, his ship crashes in USSR. Superman converts later the whole world to communism, not even by forcing them Or even religious ideas like the Holy Avenger in the movie Super
→ fight against armed gangsters putting themselves (and others) in danger if not bulletproof
→ relatives ex : Spiderman, Iron man (the last movie)
→ can kill villains and civilians by accident
→ not trained like the cops are, often young and unpredictable
