Need for Vocational Education
 By 2020, India is set to become the world’s youngest
country with 64 per cent of its population in the working
age group.
 About a quarter of the global increase in the working age
population (ages 15-64) between 2010 and 2040 is projected
to occur in India.
 In the current scenario of the Indian Vocational education,
formal training capacity is available only for - 2.3 million
people, which leaves a huge gap of 18.7 million
 Huge gap between industry requirements and skill level
of workforce.
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
Why we are here?
• Government and policy support to create
a skilled talent pool of 500 million people
by 2022.
We are here to reduce the skill Gap thus
achieving the Government Objective

Methods of Training
On the job method of training
Off the job method of training
Vestibule method of training
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
On the job method of training
• The most effective training where the
training is given at the place of work.
• Learn in the actual working environment
which means learning while doing.
• Cheaper and less time-consuming .
learning the skills in a short span of time.
• Routine work also to be completed.
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
Types -On the job method
of training
a) Understudy: –Superior gives training to his
subordinate as his assistant.
b) Coaching: –Supervisor gives knowledge to his
subordinate. This type of training is given in case
where the superior has enough time .
c) Job rotation: It means changing the position of
the employee from time to time to help them to
learn different skills, to develop all round
workers.
No frequent changes in the job of the employees
as they must be given sufficient time to acquire the
full knowledge of the job.
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
Off the job method of training
Training given for a specific period but
not at the work place rather away
from the work place.
It means free from the tension of
routine work while training.
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
Types -Off the job method
of training
Case study: Trainees are given a problem or a case study which is more or
less related to their job. Then they analyze the problem and give
solutions.
Lecture /Discussion method: also called Class room training. The special
lectures given by the specialist in a particular field. The trainees
generally had the note books to note down the important points said by
the expert.
• In case of lecture method the learners are passive, there is only one way
communication between them so lecture method can be combined with
discussion method. Where the trainees take part in the discussion and
give the feedback.
Conference training: This is a group meeting in which different persons
present their view relating to a particular topic. The members learn from
the others and respect the others viewpoint.
Dheenathayalan.R Hosur
dheena21.r@gmail.com
Vestibule method of training
It means training in class room for semi skilled
jobs.
Here large number of employees can be trained
at the same time for same type of work.
 The emphasis on learning rather than the
production.
 Here the attempt is made to create the similar
type of working conditions as actual.
It is generally given to clerks, typists etc. but this
kind of training is expensive as it requires
duplicate machines to learn the skill.
