Ms. Maria-Anna Tanagia is the founder of PubliSHIT Magazine and a guest blogger for HuffPost Greece. She has experience as a journalist, content editor, copywriter, scriptwriter, and workshop facilitator. PubliSHIT Magazine is an online media outlet inspired by crowdsourced journalism, and readers are invited to become editors and storytellers. The platform also offers meetups, workshops, and a variety of events. Ms. Tanagia seeks to use online media to develop an interactive relationship with her community. She has a master’s degree in journalism and new media. Online media seek to develop an interactive relationship with the members of their communities in order to enhance the transparency in civil society. As a result of that, new genres of Journalism such as Crowdsourcing Journalism emerge. Crowdsourcing Journalism offers new ways to engage readers. In addition to this, social networks such as Facebook and Instagram provide new spaces and ways to experience news consumption. publiSHIT magazine (The acronym SHIT stands for Stories, Happenings, Interviews, Thoughts) is an online outlet based in Thessaloniki which is inspired by crowdsourcing forms of Journalism. Readers are invited to experience participatory journalism. Thus, they become editors-in-chief, editors or storytellers. Facebook is the main platform for calls-to-action to the community. During this 15 minute talk, I will present the project and the results of people’s engagement to the project.
