Virtual Reality: The Supply Chain's Next Stage of Evolution
Virtual reality (VR) originally became commercially popularized through
video games and movie media, but has since evolved for use in major
urban development projects, to the point where it is being applied to
manufacturing, retail, distribution, installation and healthcare supply chain operations. A virtual
reality supply chain allows organizations to design and architect in 3-D, evaluate designs and make
critical decisions about new products and customer buying decisions. To read the full article, click

Google's Self-Driving Cars Learn to Behave
Around Children
Google self-driving cars, in their quest to handle every road
encounter, common or obscure, have covered a lot of ground. Now
the engineers at Google's self-driving project can also check "what appears to be a papier mache
planet Jupiter with legs" and "kid wearing a series of spray painted cardboard boxes to resemble
Minecraft character Enderman" off their list. Last week, Google invited its employees to bring their
costumed children to a Halloween party at its Mountainview, Calif., headquarters to give the cars'
sensors some extra practice. To read the full article, click here!

Music to His Printer
But now he has, with his 3D-printed violin. "The 3Dvarius was born in
2012," he says. "I was a student in a mechanical engineering university
called INSA and based in Toulouse. I'm also a professional violinist-I
began the violin at four. I decided to create an electric violin that was
corresponding to my playing style." Laurent Bernadac has two passions: engineering and playing
the violin. Both require a sharp concentration and are an art to be respected. However, for most of
his life, he assumed he could not combine the two.To read the full article, click here!
2. CU-ICAR lightweight door research gets $5.8 million
A team headed by researchers at the Clemson University International
Center for Automotive Research has received $5.8 million to help develop a
lighter-weight door for automakers facing new federal fuel economy
standards. The project will use carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic
composites to make a driver's side front-door assembly for an unnamed automotive manufacturer,
according to team leaders. They said the technology could also be used in other vehicle parts. To

Market View
In the last 6 months, we have seen some exciting announcements from the likes of O'Neal
Engineering, Scansource, WYNIT Distribution, JTEKT, Mitsubishi, Sutera and others about
investing in new facilities and adding more jobs in the area. To highlight the wider success of our
state, take a look at this following excerpt from the most recent report from the Federal Reserve
Bank of Richmond:
"Economic reports on South Carolina remained positive as employment rose, household conditions
improved, and housing market indicators were mostly positive. In the labor markets, payroll
employment in the State expanded 0.3 percent for the fourth consecutive month in September as
firms added 6,300 jobs. Employers in the trade, transportation, and utilities industry added 2,200
jobs (0.6 percent) in September for the largest absolute gain; the "other" services industry posted
the largest percentage gain of 1.9 percent by adding 1,400 jobs. Only three industries (logging and
mining, manufacturing, and financial services) reported job losses in September, although
manufacturing in the region remains pretty robust. On a year-over-year basis, added since
September 2014. The trade, transportation, and utilities industry added 15,000 jobs and the leisure
and hospitality industry added 14,200 jobs over the last twelve months. At the metro level,
employers in every MSA except Sumter reported job gains in September. Total employment in
South Carolina expanded 3.3 percent, which far surpassed the national growth rate of 2.0 percent.
Two industries accounted for almost half of the 63,400 jobs." For the entire report click here!
As employment levels continue to move in the right direction, the challenge to hire hasn't changed.
Demand still outstrips supply. While companies are exploring more avenues when it comes to
attracting candidates, we are finding that more and more are deciding to work with external
recruitment partners and we've worked hard to be one of the first to be considered. At Godshall,
we've been able to leverage our exceptional network to identify potential candidates for our clients
quickly, both locally and further afield. Additionally, we've improved our first interview to hire ratio
even further, to a level that is now better than 2:1. We've recently been selected as the sole
recruitment partner for a manufacturing company opening a brand new facility in the area,
highlighting our ability to cover a wide array of disciplines through our specialized team. When
advertising, existing recruitment relationships and personal referrals are not driving the quality of
candidates you need, you can be assured that Godshall's proactive approach will identify the kind
of talent you need to be talking to.
