MS(multiple sclerosis) is a central nerve disorder named in 60's but has over hundreds years history of
record. The disorder is diagnosed inside the brain and spine system. This disease happens among
people aged 20-40, which is very complicated and await new pharmaceutical development to assist
recovery. Traditional Chinese Medicine is an alternative therapy to treat MS with successful records, it
works to slow the negative development of the syndrome and helps to eliminate common side
syndrome related such as: paralysis, bladder urgency or infection, fatigue, dizziness, vision loss, spasm,
brain deficiency etc.
Modern medicine has not discover the factor that cause MS, while TCM explains the disorder by four
elements: deficiency, blockage, depression and toxic attack. Global location of the most patients live in
northen part where Europe and North America show more records and more cases rise up in China as
well. Modern lifestyle, climate changes with cold attack could be the background. Deficiency happens
in the digestion system or cardiac system first affected by the faster life pattern of city workers.
Circulation disorder shows up when the nutrition could not be supplied sufficiently and muscle
weakness, numbness, vision disorder or dizziness are common symptoms follow up. Some patients
reports cold hands or feet during all seasons, which indicates the blood circulation and cardiac energy
are in lower level. The deficiency in spleen system could also result in body fluid disorder which will
block the meridian system and make more weakness in tendons and ligaments. The chronic deficiency
will eventually lower the immunity and leaving risk for virus attack which toxic the system. Depression
is the most difficulty patients faces when they have to leave previous active young life and bothered by
fatigue or paralysis limit. Those elements are inner related with specific organ system or meridians that
carry energy circulation. By TCM diagnosis with further analysis, symptoms could be cataloged in
accordance with the TCM theory and therapy of acupuncture, Tuina and Herbal remedy could be
formulated to set a recovery course with lifestyle improvement as diet and exercise etc.

As TCM views the body as a whole system with concerns including body, mind and spirit, the
treatment will be holistic and individually tailored. Some traditional herbal remedies with hundreds
years history have been found effective in treating MS, in China pharmaceutical lab tests are supporting
more effect nowadays. Buzhongyiqi Tang is one of those formulas which could be adapted to help MS,
that formula was created in the Jin dynasty of China 750 years ago. Taichi and meditation are also
helpful options to allow fatigue patients to practice in order to keep the energy and wellness
improvement. One thing makes TCM a good option here is that if the diagnosis and therapy are
correctly handled, there could be no side effect compared with benzodiazepine or baclofen treatments.
TCM focus on prevention and be able to slow the influence on wellness endangered by MS.
