OF LUQMAN
TO HIS SON
FROM
Period of Revelation of Surah Luqman
• Surah Loqman was revealed in Makkah during the period when persecution
to suppress the Islamic Dawah had begun
• All sort of coercion was employed to discourage people in accepting Islam
• Surah Al-Ankabut, was revealed in the same period. A study of the style and
subject matter of the two Surahs on the whole, however, shows that Surah
Luqman was revealed earlier, since there is no sign of the antagonism in its
background.
• While studying Surah Al-Ankabut one can clearly feel that the Muslims were
being severely persecuted during the period of its revelation.
Theme and Subject matter
• In this Surah the people are told about the absurdity of shirk and the
truth and reasonability of Tauhid, and
• They are invited to give up blind imitation of their forefathers,
• Deliberate with a cool mind upon the teachings of the Prophet
Muhammad (SAW)
• They are invited to open eyes to the manifest Signs of Allah found in
the universe around them and in their own selves, which bear evidence
to its truth
• Luqman the wise (whose wisdom was well known) preached exactly
same creed and the morals taught by Islam.
Who was Luqman
• Luqman was well known as a wise and learned man in Arabia.
• He has been mentioned in the poetry of the pre-Islamic poets like Imra'ul-
Qais, Labid, A'asha, Tarafa and others.
• Some educated Arabs also possessed a collection of the wise sayings of
Luqman.
• Suwaid bin Samir when heard Prophet (SAW) in Makkah, he submitted, "I
have a thing similar to what you preach," When asked what it was, he said,
"The roll of Luqman." Then on the Holy Prophet's instance, he read out a
portion of it, whereupon the Holy Prophet said, "This discourse is fine, but
that which I have is better still.' Then he recited the Qur'an to him, and
Suwaid admitted that that was certainly better than the wisdom of Luqman.
(Ibn Hisham, vol. II, p. 3781.
Luqman was a respected wise black Egyptian and
a Nubian & was called Hakeem(The Wise)
• Ibn 'Abbas says Luqman was a black slave, and the same is
the opinion of Abu Hurairah(RA), Mujahid, 'Ikrimah and
Khalid ar-Rabi.
• According to Jabir bin'Abdullah Ansari, he belonged to
Nubia.
• S'id bin al-Musayyib says that Luqman was an Egyptian
black person.
• Nubah is the country south of Egypt and north of Sudan.
• Therefore, calling the same person an Egyptian and a Nubian
and a Habashi, is one and the same thing
Imam Ibn Kathir's (RA) opinion
• According to Ibn Kathir and most Islamic scholars Luqman was not a prophet
but a wise man that God had blessed with wisdom.
• The earlier scholars, according to Ibn Kathir, were of the opinion that wisdom
means discretion and religious understanding.
• Luqman himself said that he maintained his honorable and noble qualities
by, "Lowering my gaze, watching my tongue, eating what is lawful, keeping
my chastity, undertaking my promises, fulfilling my commitments, being
hospitable to guests, respecting my neighbors, and discarding what does not
concern me. All these made me the one you are looking at."
LUQMAN(AS) WAS HONORED IN
QURAN

• 31:12
• And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], "Be grateful
to Allah ." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of]
himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of
need and Praiseworthy.
THE NATURE OF SHUKR
• 1- Accepting that all benefits come from the real
benefactor, Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala
• 2-The effect of the Shukr is to be happy with
whatever the Benefactor grants us
• 3-Be ever ready to render obedience to Allah
Subhanahu Wa Taala.
WHY LUQMAN(AS) WAS HONORED IN
QURAN
• He was granted wisdom from Allah and he was thankful for Allah’s blessings.
• He cared about his son and gave him “heart-penetrating advice” (mau’idha
in the Quranic vocabulary)
• The advice he gives to his son is timeless advice for all of humanity for all
time.
• It is more of a lesson for young men and women who are just going out into
the world. Allah starts the Surah by saying,
These are the verses of the wise Scripture, [with] guidance and mercy for those who do good. [Quran, 31:2-3]

ٌ‫م‬‫ي‬ِ‫ظ‬َ‫ع‬ ٌ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ُ‫ظ‬َ‫ل‬–31:13
• And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he
was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with
Allah . Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."
What is shirk?
• Shirk means ascribing a partner or rival to Allah in Lordship (ruboobiyyah),
worship or in His names and attributes.
• Types of Shirk:
1- Major shirk -
A- Outward, such as the shirk of those who worship idols and graves, or the
dead or absent.
B- Hidden, such as those who put their trust in other gods besides Allah, or the
shirk and kufr of the hypocrites
2-Minor shirk- A-Outward actions, such as wearing talismans, strings, amulets
and other words and deeds.B-Hidden, like a little bit of showing off.
Forms of Shirk
!-Beliefs:
• Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, gives life and
death, reigns or controls the affairs of the universe along with Allah.
• Or the belief that there is someone else who must be obeyed absolutely
besides Allah, so they follow him in regarding as permissible or forbidden
whatever he wants, even if that goes against the religion of the Messengers.
• Or they may associate others with Allah in love and veneration,
Forms of Shirk
2-Words:
• Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other than Allah,
or seek his help or seek refuge with him
• Or such as those who make fun of religion or who liken Allah to His
creation, or say that there is another creator, provider or controller
besides Allah.
3- Actions: Like sacrifices, prays or prostrates to something other than
Allah, or who promulgates laws to replace the rulings of Allah
My son, do not attribute any partners to God:
attributing partners to Him is a terrible wrong.
[Quran 31:13]
• Shirk can invade our deeds in other ways too.
• We should be wary of doing deeds that are done for other than Allah.
• We should also be wary of leaving off obligatory actions, worrying about what
people will say.
• Alhamdulillah that Allah has saved us from the major shirk,
• We are still in danger of falling into the minor shirk of putting other people
ahead of Allah in our lives.
Action items
• Understand the basics of Tawheed
‘ ‘Fundamentals of Tawheed’ can be a good book
What it means?
How to practice it?
How to fortify it?
• Understand what Shirk is and what pitfalls it can lead to
1- Know definition and types of Shirk
2. Adopt the habit of calling upon Allah (swt) in times of need, in happiness and in distress
3. Practice the habit of reciting daily duas
4. Remember Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) story
2-Fulfill rights of parents

• And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him,
[increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be
grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
We have commanded people to be good to their
parents:
• We have commanded people to be good to their parents: their
mothers carried them, with strain upon strain, and it takes two years
to wean them. [Quran 31:14]
• This topic needs no introduction.
• The station of parents in Islam is only second to Allah and His
Messenger and the five obligatory prayers.
• Allah reminds us to be good to our parents.

• But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no
knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with
appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in
repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what
you used to do.

• "O my son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a
mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in
the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed,
Allah is Subtle and Acquainted.
Whatever happens on the earth, Allah is fully
aware of it.
• My son, if even the weight of a mustard seed were hidden in a rock or anywhere
in the heavens or earth, God would bring it [to light], for He is all subtle and all
aware. [Quran 31:16]
• This is where Luqman tells his son to be especially conscious of everything.
• Whatever happens on the earth, Allah is aware.
• There are two dimensions to it: We cannot hide any of our bad deeds from Allah,
and we will be called to account for them.
• Also, the deeds of the people against us that they may “get away with” will also
be judged by Allah. No one escapes from Allah’s plan.
Action items
• Learn how to do Tadabbur (ponder over Allah (swt) creations) :
Ever wonder…
• why children seem to be able to learn a language so quickly?
• why you have 2 eyes?
• why mountains are the way they are and where they are?
• Widen your vision by viewing scientific videos like those of Harun

4- Establish Salah

• O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid
what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you.
Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring]
determination
Keep up the prayer, my son. [Quran 31:17
• The most important of deeds, and the first that will be questioned about
on the Day of Judgement.
• Right after mentioning about the fact that Allah knows everything,
Luqman (AS) mentions prayer.
• Prayer helps us keep our other deeds clean of shirk, clean of any sinful
behaviors and expiates for our minor sins.
• Prayer also helps us go through the troubles of what other people do to us.
• Prayer is our link to Allah.
Action items
• 1-Strive to learn how your prayer can be prefect?
• 2. Learn to prioritize your activities –
• a) School work Vs Vs Salah
• b) Outings Vs Salah
• 3. Team up with you parents for the prayers
• 4. How much reward does on get for offering prayers in the Masjed?
5-Command what is right; forbid what is
wrong.” [Quran 31:17]
• The act of dawah is an act that was done by all the
prophets of Allah, peace be upon them.
• It is an obligation that we need to take seriously.
• It is also of utmost importance in helping build a
community that is righteous and sincere.
Action plan
• 1- Play an active role in Dawah – inviting people towards Islam
• 2. Understand the definition of “Good Behavior”
• 3. Every Muslim child should be responsive, confident and determined
• 4. Do not allow “peer pressure” to play a dominant role in the development of
your mind
• 5. Be courageous enough to take the initiative to stop if something is going on
wrong
• 6. At the same time, take the initiative to encourage if some good is going on
• 7. Recognize your responsibility towards society
6-Be patient or bear anything that happens to you
steadfastly. [Quran 31:17]
• Constantly keeping our intentions clean for Allah,
• Constantly being good to our parents when they are not nice to us,
• Keeping up the prayer,
• Doing dawah work or sharing truth of Islam with others.
• We will sometimes fall short in our duty to Allah. Allah asks us to bear all of
this patiently.
• Also, sometimes to cleanse us of our sins, He will put us through difficulties
that purify us of our sins and purify our intentions, and
• He is also asking us to be steadfast for those times.
Action plan
• 1-When you Forbid Evil and Enjoin Good – you will face resistance. Life in
this world is a Trial
• 2.Understand the the meaning of Sabr. It means patience, perseverance and
steadfastness on right path.
• 3.In times of difficulty – have composed behavior, firm belief that Allah (swt)
will come to your rescue
• 4.Stories from Prophets & Sahaba • Taif incident, Bilal (R.A.)
7-Do not be arrogant
• And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward
people and do not walk through the earth exultantly.
Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded
and boastful.
Spiritual purification from character flaws
• Luqman first talks to his son about his spiritual purification, and about dawah.
• And soon after mentions problems that many duat (those who do Dawah) face
today.
• He talks about the purification of the character now.
• He asks his son— and by extension Allah is giving this message to us— that
we do not become arrogant.
• Sometimes when we do all of the acts above, we will be better than many of
the people who we live around. This may make us arrogant and self-righteous.
Action plan
• A Muslim is not arrogant – shun arrogance
• 2. He should know that whatever he has – is given by Allah. He can take all away from him
anytime when He wishes.
• 3-Always remember that you are not special to deserve what you take for granted!
4-Learn to be thankful for what you have.
• Do not think you are better than others. (Satan did this mistake of saying that he is better
than Adam – he was thrown out of Heaven)
• Hadith: “No one will enter paradise who has even an atom’s weight of pride in his heart”
• Hadith: “Shall I not tell you about the people of Hell-fire? Everyone who is harsh, proud,
disdainful and arrogant.“ Everyone who is harsh, proud, disdainful and arrogant.“ Allah will
not look at them in the Hereafter
• Be humble, simple and considerate towards people who have a lack of means
Your walk and talk should be decent
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice;
indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of
donkeys."
8-Nor walk about the place arrogantly. 31:18
• The purification of the character in Islam is such that it is not
only about how we deal with others, but also about how we
behave.
• A native American proverb tells us that we will be known by the
tracks we leave
• Luqman tells his son not to have a proud gait while walking, as
this is not how a believer should live.
• A believer is always humble.
9-Go at a moderate pace. [Quran 31:18]
َ‫ك‬ِ‫ي‬ْ‫ش‬َ‫م‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ ْ‫د‬ ِ‫ص‬ْ‫ق‬‫ا‬ َ‫و‬
• He asks his son to walk in a moderate pace and not in an
arrogant or boastful fashion.
• He does not ask his son to be passive, but rather to have the
balance that Islam is all about.
10-And lower your voice. [Quran 31:18]
• Finally, Luqman mentions that he should never
raise his voice.
• At times in our zeal to propagate Islam, we might
become ill-mannered in our behavior.
• Shouting does not win hearts; it offends and
alienates people.
• Luqman gives the best advice in maintaining our
manners: lower your voice.
Action items.
• 1-Remember Hadith: “Surely, Allah does not love anyone who is foul-mouthed and
obscene.” foul-mouthed and obscene.”
• 2. Lower your voice out of good manners. Speak with self confidence and tranquility
due to the truth you believe in , tranquility due to the truth you believe in. Say mildly
with the strength of what you have to say.
• 3. Do no yell or be harsh when speaking, as no one does that except if he is ill
mannered, or doubts the value his words, or is not confident– be soft-spoken
• 4. Control you tongue against foul language – use modest language
• 5. Group behavior plays an important role – keep good company
Reminder for parents
• Muslim parents take his example and thus encourage their children to
implement these great advices
• Ultimate success will be achieved by both the children and their parents by
remembering and implementing these advices
• This is because the parents are entrusted with the care and guidance of their
children,
• Parents will be asked about their children’s behavior on the Day of Judgment.
Conclusion
• We should ponder over these verses that gather issues of belief, worship,
manners and enjoining the good and forbidding the evil.
• Luqman is mentioned as ‘the wise’ because Allah bore witness that He has given
him wisdom and due to that he must be thankful to Allah.
• Wisdom is to put something in its place. This was the wisdom of Luqmān and
every caller who is wise: he puts everything in its right context.
• Then wisdom is to walk the path of the Prophets (Alaihis Salaam) in calling the
people to Allah and in educating them about Islam.

10 advices of luqman to his son

  • 1. 10 ADVICES OF LUQMAN TO HIS SON FROM
  • 2. Period of Revelation of Surah Luqman • Surah Loqman was revealed in Makkah during the period when persecution to suppress the Islamic Dawah had begun • All sort of coercion was employed to discourage people in accepting Islam • Surah Al-Ankabut, was revealed in the same period. A study of the style and subject matter of the two Surahs on the whole, however, shows that Surah Luqman was revealed earlier, since there is no sign of the antagonism in its background. • While studying Surah Al-Ankabut one can clearly feel that the Muslims were being severely persecuted during the period of its revelation.
  • 3. Theme and Subject matter • In this Surah the people are told about the absurdity of shirk and the truth and reasonability of Tauhid, and • They are invited to give up blind imitation of their forefathers, • Deliberate with a cool mind upon the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) • They are invited to open eyes to the manifest Signs of Allah found in the universe around them and in their own selves, which bear evidence to its truth • Luqman the wise (whose wisdom was well known) preached exactly same creed and the morals taught by Islam.
  • 4. Who was Luqman • Luqman was well known as a wise and learned man in Arabia. • He has been mentioned in the poetry of the pre-Islamic poets like Imra'ul- Qais, Labid, A'asha, Tarafa and others. • Some educated Arabs also possessed a collection of the wise sayings of Luqman. • Suwaid bin Samir when heard Prophet (SAW) in Makkah, he submitted, "I have a thing similar to what you preach," When asked what it was, he said, "The roll of Luqman." Then on the Holy Prophet's instance, he read out a portion of it, whereupon the Holy Prophet said, "This discourse is fine, but that which I have is better still.' Then he recited the Qur'an to him, and Suwaid admitted that that was certainly better than the wisdom of Luqman. (Ibn Hisham, vol. II, p. 3781.
  • 5. Luqman was a respected wise black Egyptian and a Nubian & was called Hakeem(The Wise) • Ibn 'Abbas says Luqman was a black slave, and the same is the opinion of Abu Hurairah(RA), Mujahid, 'Ikrimah and Khalid ar-Rabi. • According to Jabir bin'Abdullah Ansari, he belonged to Nubia. • S'id bin al-Musayyib says that Luqman was an Egyptian black person. • Nubah is the country south of Egypt and north of Sudan. • Therefore, calling the same person an Egyptian and a Nubian and a Habashi, is one and the same thing
  • 6. Imam Ibn Kathir's (RA) opinion • According to Ibn Kathir and most Islamic scholars Luqman was not a prophet but a wise man that God had blessed with wisdom. • The earlier scholars, according to Ibn Kathir, were of the opinion that wisdom means discretion and religious understanding. • Luqman himself said that he maintained his honorable and noble qualities by, "Lowering my gaze, watching my tongue, eating what is lawful, keeping my chastity, undertaking my promises, fulfilling my commitments, being hospitable to guests, respecting my neighbors, and discarding what does not concern me. All these made me the one you are looking at."
  • 7. LUQMAN(AS) WAS HONORED IN QURAN • ْ‫ر‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ش‬‫ا‬ ِ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ َ‫ة‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ك‬ ِ‫ح‬ْ‫ال‬ َ‫ان‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ق‬ُ‫ل‬ ‫َا‬‫ن‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ت‬‫آ‬ ْ‫د‬َ‫ق‬َ‫ل‬ َ‫و‬ۚ ِ ‫ه‬ ِ‫ّلِل‬َ‫ي‬ ‫ا‬َ‫م‬‫ه‬‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫ف‬ ْ‫ر‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ش‬َ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬َ‫م‬ َ‫و‬ِ‫ه‬ِ‫س‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫ل‬ ُ‫ر‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ش‬ ٌۖ‫د‬‫ي‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ ٌّ‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬َ‫غ‬ َ ‫ه‬‫اّلِل‬ ‫ه‬‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫ف‬ َ‫ر‬َ‫ف‬َ‫ك‬ ‫ن‬َ‫م‬ َ‫و‬– • 31:12 • And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allah ." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
  • 8. THE NATURE OF SHUKR • 1- Accepting that all benefits come from the real benefactor, Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala • 2-The effect of the Shukr is to be happy with whatever the Benefactor grants us • 3-Be ever ready to render obedience to Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala.
  • 9. WHY LUQMAN(AS) WAS HONORED IN QURAN • He was granted wisdom from Allah and he was thankful for Allah’s blessings. • He cared about his son and gave him “heart-penetrating advice” (mau’idha in the Quranic vocabulary) • The advice he gives to his son is timeless advice for all of humanity for all time. • It is more of a lesson for young men and women who are just going out into the world. Allah starts the Surah by saying, ِ‫يم‬ِ‫ك‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ال‬ ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫ت‬ِ‫ك‬ْ‫ال‬ ُ‫ات‬َ‫ي‬‫آ‬ َ‫ك‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ت‬-َ‫ين‬ِ‫ن‬ِ‫س‬ْ‫ح‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ل‬ ً‫ة‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ر‬َ‫و‬ ‫ى‬ً‫د‬ُ‫ه‬ These are the verses of the wise Scripture, [with] guidance and mercy for those who do good. [Quran, 31:2-3]
  • 10. 10 Advices • Reject Shirk and hold to Tauheed – • Fulfill rights of parents • Be aware of Allah’s Might • Establish Salah – • Enjoin what is right and forbid evil • Patience – • Avoid Arrogance – • Be Modest • Walk graceful • Do not be too loud
  • 11. 1- Reject Shirk (Making partners to Allah) • ُ‫ب‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ي‬ ُ‫ه‬ُ‫ظ‬ِ‫ع‬َ‫ي‬ َ‫و‬ُ‫ه‬ َ‫و‬ ِ‫ه‬ِ‫ن‬ْ‫ب‬ ِ‫ِل‬ ُ‫ان‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ق‬ُ‫ل‬ َ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ق‬ ْ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫و‬‫ه‬‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ ِ ‫ه‬‫اّلِل‬ِ‫ب‬ ْ‫ك‬ ِ‫ر‬ْ‫ش‬ُ‫ت‬ َ‫ِل‬ ‫ه‬‫ي‬َ‫ن‬َ‫ك‬ ْ‫ر‬ِ‫الش‬ ٌ‫م‬‫ي‬ِ‫ظ‬َ‫ع‬ ٌ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ُ‫ظ‬َ‫ل‬–31:13 • And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah . Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."
  • 12. What is shirk? • Shirk means ascribing a partner or rival to Allah in Lordship (ruboobiyyah), worship or in His names and attributes. • Types of Shirk: 1- Major shirk - A- Outward, such as the shirk of those who worship idols and graves, or the dead or absent. B- Hidden, such as those who put their trust in other gods besides Allah, or the shirk and kufr of the hypocrites 2-Minor shirk- A-Outward actions, such as wearing talismans, strings, amulets and other words and deeds.B-Hidden, like a little bit of showing off.
  • 13. Forms of Shirk !-Beliefs: • Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, gives life and death, reigns or controls the affairs of the universe along with Allah. • Or the belief that there is someone else who must be obeyed absolutely besides Allah, so they follow him in regarding as permissible or forbidden whatever he wants, even if that goes against the religion of the Messengers. • Or they may associate others with Allah in love and veneration,
  • 14. Forms of Shirk 2-Words: • Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other than Allah, or seek his help or seek refuge with him • Or such as those who make fun of religion or who liken Allah to His creation, or say that there is another creator, provider or controller besides Allah. 3- Actions: Like sacrifices, prays or prostrates to something other than Allah, or who promulgates laws to replace the rulings of Allah
  • 15. My son, do not attribute any partners to God: attributing partners to Him is a terrible wrong. [Quran 31:13] • Shirk can invade our deeds in other ways too. • We should be wary of doing deeds that are done for other than Allah. • We should also be wary of leaving off obligatory actions, worrying about what people will say. • Alhamdulillah that Allah has saved us from the major shirk, • We are still in danger of falling into the minor shirk of putting other people ahead of Allah in our lives.
  • 16. Action items • Understand the basics of Tawheed ‘ ‘Fundamentals of Tawheed’ can be a good book What it means? How to practice it? How to fortify it? • Understand what Shirk is and what pitfalls it can lead to 1- Know definition and types of Shirk 2. Adopt the habit of calling upon Allah (swt) in times of need, in happiness and in distress 3. Practice the habit of reciting daily duas 4. Remember Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) story
  • 17. 2-Fulfill rights of parents • َ‫و‬ ُ‫ه‬ُّ‫م‬ُ‫أ‬ ُ‫ه‬ْ‫ت‬َ‫ل‬َ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ ِ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫د‬ِ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫و‬ِ‫ب‬ َ‫ان‬َ‫س‬‫ن‬ِ ْ‫اْل‬ ‫َا‬‫ن‬ْ‫ي‬‫ه‬‫ص‬ َ‫و‬ َ‫و‬‫ا‬ً‫ن‬ْ‫ه‬‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫م‬‫ا‬َ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ ُ‫ه‬ُ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ص‬ِ‫ف‬ َ‫و‬ ٍ‫ن‬ْ‫ه‬ َ‫و‬ِ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ِ‫ْن‬‫ي‬ ُ‫ير‬ ِ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ال‬ ‫ه‬‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫ْك‬‫ي‬َ‫د‬ِ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫و‬ِ‫ل‬ َ‫و‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ل‬ ْ‫ر‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ش‬‫ا‬–31:14 • And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
  • 18. We have commanded people to be good to their parents: • We have commanded people to be good to their parents: their mothers carried them, with strain upon strain, and it takes two years to wean them. [Quran 31:14] • This topic needs no introduction. • The station of parents in Islam is only second to Allah and His Messenger and the five obligatory prayers. • Allah reminds us to be good to our parents.
  • 19. Limits of parent's obedience • َ‫اك‬َ‫د‬َ‫ه‬‫ا‬َ‫ج‬ ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫و‬‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ ِ‫ه‬ِ‫ب‬ َ‫ك‬َ‫ل‬ َ‫ْس‬‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬َ‫م‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬ َ‫ك‬ ِ‫ر‬ْ‫ش‬ُ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ْ‫ع‬ِ‫ط‬ُ‫ت‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫ف‬ ٌ‫م‬‫ال‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ ‫ا‬َ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ْ‫ب‬ ِ‫اح‬َ‫ص‬ َ‫و‬‫ا‬َ‫ي‬ْ‫ن‬ُّ‫د‬ ‫ا‬ً‫ف‬‫و‬ُ‫ر‬ْ‫ع‬َ‫م‬ۚ ‫ه‬‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫َاب‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫ن‬َ‫م‬ َ‫ل‬‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫س‬ ْ‫ع‬ِ‫ب‬‫ه‬‫ت‬‫ا‬ َ‫و‬‫ه‬‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ ‫ه‬‫م‬ُ‫ث‬َ‫ت‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ت‬‫ن‬ُ‫ك‬ ‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِ‫ب‬ ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ُ‫ك‬ِ‫َب‬‫ن‬ُ‫ن‬َ‫ف‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ُ‫ع‬ ِ‫ج‬ ْ‫ر‬َ‫م‬َ‫ون‬ُ‫ل‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ع‬– 31:15 • But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance].
